Wonderful retreat atop beautiful mountain top! Looking for a place at the last minute near Helen, GA, Google pointed us towards Lucille's, and how lucky we were to get a room due to a last minute cancellation.
This well appointed and thoroughly modern bed and breakfast has wonderful views and super-friendly proprietors. I am often hesitant about B&Bs, having too often experienced the faded, cluttered, and cramped feeling reminiscent of staying at "Grandmother's" house. Fortunately, Lucille's is the opposite of that experience. The four-story, 10 guest room building has spacious rooms, a distinct" Frank Lloyd Wright" style lobby, a koi pond, a wonderful deck, and a fun "Crow's Nest" for panoramic viewing of the surrounding mountains.
Deets on the room: the beds were of the sinky/soft variety, comfy bath robes were provided, and everything felt clean and almost new. The owners just purchased the place (built about 10 years ago) within the last year, and their efforts at sprucing things up have been successful. One also gets the feeling that they are also still learning a bit about how to run an efficient B&B, but their enthusiasm and friendliness far outweighed any hiccups. Unfortunately, I missed the breakfast, but my GF said it was very nice. I did partake of the delicious vanilla cake provided for dessert, and they have soft drinks and a Keurig machine (coffee and tea) available 24/7. Finally, they also have a spa next door offering typical massage and beauty services that my GF enjoyed, while I did some shopping nearby.
Lucille's is in Sautee Nacoochee which is approx. ten minutes from Helen and Unicoi State Park. Don't miss the sights in the town of Sautee itself though, which includes the interesting Folk Pottery Museum.
Final verdict - we'll be back!
