We arrived late in the day to the hotel and was very pleased to find that the hotel was located a mile from the Maine Mall where there were many different choices for dinner. The breakfast was OK, plentiful but not the best quality eggs. We have had the same type of eggs in other hotels that were tasty but these were very bland. There was a large variety of food to eat which made it better. The room was very clean and the service was excellent. They did have an indoor pool but we would have liked to have a hot tub which are great for making tired legs better. All in all we thought the location and east access to Portland was very good and would use this hotel again. We were a little upset to see our room was across from the elevator but had no issues with noise.

From the outside the hotel looked great. Once inside it was not what I expected. The floors were dirty. The carpet in the hallways was bunched into the center of the walkway, causing a huge tripping hazard. The rooms were supposedly non smoking. My room smelled musty and must have been a smoking room in the past. The furniture was older and pretty worn. There was a cigarette burn on the toilet seat, stains on one of the beds sheets and the bed skirt had holes in it. I work in the industry and this is absolutely unacceptable for the price paid. I left the next morning and stayed the rest of the week at the Double Tree, which was wonderful. I will never stay at the Holiday Inn Express in South Portland Maine ever again. It wasn't just my room that was bad, the elevator also was dirty inside and looked like white foam on the ceiling of the elevator as well. When explaining this situation to the front desk, she stood there staring as if looking through me...very odd.

Room tip: Ask to look at a room if you are a walk-in guest.

We needed a hotel for a stop between Nova Scotia and Boston. This hotel was fine but it was dirty, sticky floor in the elevator, stains on the upholstery in our room.

Breakfast was ok, typical Holiday Inn Express.

Easy access on and off 95.

We got a King suite for $99.95 with a coupon from the Maine visitor's center near Portsmouth. Without the coupon it would have been $169.95!!! The suite was unbelievably spacious, with a couch, tables & chairs and separate areas for the desk as well as the sink/mirror area. It had everything: frig, microwave, coffee, iron, hair dryer, wardrobe, plenty of plugins, HBO, free wifi. This hotel was very well maintained and clean and they have great help. Every single person there greeted us and/or asked if we needed help with anything. The only complaint we had was the TV kept cutting out. We told them about it when we checked out (we were only there one night) and they were sending someone up to check it out immediately. Breakfast was Awesome! Fresh, hot cinnamon rolls, cheesy egg omelets, fruit salad & whole fruits, yogurt, cereal, hot oatmeal, pancakes & waffles, sausage & bacon....you name it, they had it. Great way to start the day! Kudos to the older gentleman, "Jim", who took care of the breakfast area. He was very friendly. We hated leaving such a pretty place. Sept.2014.

I have stayed here before a few years ago and the beds were wonderful and the breakfast was outstanding.

This time however, I had called to book a room and got the front desk of a Holiday Inn but I didn't realize that it was for Portland Oregon, not Portland ME.

When I got the hotel in Portland ME of course they had no idea where my reservation was, once I realized my mistake I was in a panic as it was after dinner hour and the hotel was booked solid, along with 4 other hotels I had called...

The front desk clerk was wonderful though, she called and called many places searching for a place for myself and my 2 children to stay. She went way out of her way to find us a spot in Portland for the night. Can't thank her enough !!

Customer service is top notch at this hotel !! Wish we could have stayed there again.
