Forget all of the glossy advertising, the "amazing views", and just about any other good things you have heard about this place because it does not represent what this place is. Normally I would try to look for something good in the hotel, but on this trip it just seemed like the negatives kept jumping up and making themselves center stage. Let's get started ...
The trip from Angeles City to Subic was quite nice. The drive was pleasant with great scenery, the driver was very nice giving us suggestions on things to do and places to go, and the car was very comfortable. When we arrived at the hotel though and he told me that the price was 2,900 Peso I almost fainted. While this doesn't sound like much it really is for a quick 45 minute trip. A chartered car from Manila airport to Angeles City is usually around 3000 to 3200 pesos, a trip that usually takes a few hours. Needless to say the price is not commensurate to the job, but that was probably the easiest one to swallow.
At check in I had to wait another hour or so for my room to be ready. A wait of 5 or 10 minutes is one thing, but a 1 hour wait is just too long in my opinion. Especially when you consider that they knew what time I was going to be at the hotel because they scheduled my pick up in Angeles!
Once we got into the room I was far from impressed with the amenities. The furniture was cheap and shabby, and probably cost about as much as one nights stay in their Executive Balcony Suite. In fact I am pretty sure that for the price of all 3 nights you could have purchased everything that was in that room. The furniture was mismatched, and sparse, while the decorations were non-existent. The mattress was so stiff that neither myself or my girlfriend could get a decent nights rest, instead we both spent all night tossing and turning trying to get comfortable on what felt like a board. The balcony furniture was nothing more then old plastic lawn furniture. I can't believe that it had been cleaned in a while because there was mildew on the chairs and table, they were beginning to degrade enough that every time you sat in it your clothes became white, and there wasn't any umbrella to shade you from the morning sun. And while we are on the balcony we might as well just mention the fact that when our room was cleaned they also cleaned the balcony ... mostly. Instead of picking up the cans that had fallen onto the floor of the balcony they just left them there. The poor housekeeping didn't stop there, when they cleaned the rooms they didn't bother to change our glasses, throw away the trash, or even empty the coffee pot from the previous occupants. I guess they decided that a made bed was a clean room. I was just hoping that they actually changed the sheets.
Like another reviewer said, there are no hand towels or face towels in the hotel. It seems like something so basic that every hotel should provide for their guests, but for some reason Wild Orchid has decided that their guests just don't need such amenities. The hot water on the 4th floor actually came out brown! It looked as if someone had used all of the hot water to brew tea. As to the toilet, well there is absolutely no privacy or ability to keep any "bathroom" smells from being in the whole room. The only thing separating the toilet from the rest of the room is some wooden slats that do nothing for actual privacy.
Now for some of the amenities that are claimed to be offered here. On tripadvisor it clearly states that this hotel offers a shuttle service but they do not. Instead of a shuttle service they will gladly call you a taxi, at outrageous prices. If you plan on going to Subic Zoo or Ocean Adventure then you had better be ready to shell out some money. 1200 Pesos for drop off or pick up to either place, or 2500 Pesos to have the driver wait on you and bring you back. If you want to go to both spots in the same day they will gladly take you for 3500 Pesos. That's right, for an extra 1000 peso they will bring you the extra 5 minutes to the other park. For this amount of money you could rent a van by the day that would bring you anywhere you wanted for any amount of time. Did I mention that we spent 5 hours at Ocean Adventure so my ride price was increased because the driver had to wait for too long??? If you run a resort in an area with such high prices then you should offer some sort of discounted shuttle service, or maybe even a free shuttle service that runs 3 or 4 times a day to the most popular places. For the price of these rooms it wouldn't be unheard of to have a free shuttle service.
The internet in our room didn't work and when I went downstairs to complain about the internet and water I didn't get an answer. Instead of bringing it up again and getting it brushed to the side I just ignored it and used the free wifi that is located in the bars and restaurants.
The so called "spectacular view" of the Subic bay from the Executive rooms is far from that. About the most scenic thing is the handful of trees that are situated between your room and the bay, otherwise you just get a great view of tankers and ship yards. I bought into this "spectacular" view and was quickly dismayed at the view.
Overall this hotel was a huge disappointment. It was billed to be the best "resort" in Subic but is more like a motel that has some bars attached to it. Definitely will not be staying again at this so called resort. It is nothing more then a waste of money.
