HGIs tend to be my hotel of choice when traveling as I rarely have a bad experience. This location is ideal as it's just off the highway and makes for a good stopping point on a long trip, which is what we did.
On the downside, it's easy to hear what's going on around the floor. Passing traffic can be heard, as can people being noisy. The latter occurred at 2am when a wedding party (I suspect) came back to rooms a little too loud for their own good. I think they were above us but it was hard to be certain. I can't blame the hotel staff for noisy, drunken customers but it highlighted how thin the walls are. As the morning arrived and people began their day, you could heard showers and doors very easily. Light sleepers might have a harder time at this location.
On the upside, the staff took good care of us when it was time for breakfast. As I mentioned, we usually stay at HGIs and will usually have the breakfast offered, either prepaid when booking, or paying the morning of. On this particular day, none of us were in the mood for a large meal and we were traveling with a four year old. At $14 per person, it would've amounted to almost $50 for breakfast and none of us are big eaters to begin with. We certainly wouldn't have gotten our money's...HGIs tend to be my hotel of choice when traveling as I rarely have a bad experience. At $14 per person, it would've amounted to almost $50 for breakfast and none of us are big eaters to begin with. We certainly wouldn't have gotten our money's worth. So, we spoke to the front desk staff who informed us that children five and under were free. They also let us just have a light bite to eat for a nominal fee at first. In the end, the didn't charge us at all, which tells me they're more concerned about customer happiness than making a quick buck. We didn't want to appear cheap, but we just wanted a snack rather than a formal meal and their setup didn't allow for that.
Suffice it to say that this incident restored our faith in customer service. It would be nice, however, if one could order side items from a menu, rather than pay $14 to eat less than his/her dollar value. It is like this at other HGIs around the province so I'm sure it's something that can be done.More
