Stayed one night, room modern and spotless. Hotel well maintained and decorated modern throughout. Staff all very friendly and attentive, good selection of drinks at the bar and breakfast spot on. We will definitely be back.

We are just home from a weekend at this beautiful hotel. This was our anniversary treat, and room 120 was just perfect for the occasion! Large spacious room, very clean and comfortable. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. The only negative we found was breakfast. The cooked breakfast was of poor quality, it would be nice if the hotel introduced haggis and potato scone to make a Scottish style breakfast, as it stands it resembles more if a greasy spoon dish! However there were plenty other options and we can highly recommend the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs.

Lovely roomy room. Very comfortable bed. Fabulous setting. Meals done on rock bottom budget - fine, but not haute cuisine. Decor in hotel trying to be trendy but it doesn't really work. Strange blinds over every window in public spaces though when sun shines one understands why! Lovely walks available all around the hotel. Hotel has newly painted front but rear not done yet. Shearings have a method which seems to work - provide good comfort in fantastic settings and offer it to coach tours etc. Hotels always seem busy. If only food could be improved a little it would be a winning formula!

The rear of the hotel is being painted in June. This will make a huge difference to the weather beaten building. It’s not an easy task keeping on top of the wear and tear of a building that is so exposed to the elements. As you say it’s not “haute cuisine” but nor is the price charged. I do believe we give excellent value for money breaks. Thank you for taking the time to write and I do hope you return sometime soon.

Short break /deal with freinds. On arrival noticed what has been said by many reviews both on tripadvisor and the hotels own web site. Needs a coat of paint outside on the downpipes and rust running down walls. The windows in the hotel require ripped out and replaced with Double glazing since most of the wooden frames are visibly rotted. That's the ugly part. On entering reception its obvious that the area is well kept with pleasant seating and lounge areas, we were booked in by a very pleasant gentleman and given our keys. I immediately noticed I had been given a key for a room I was advised not to take and when I mentioned this I was given an immediate upgrade.( that's service ) The meals were average and one evening when the server noticed I had left most of my dish she offered something else.At breakfast one morning I chose kippers and thought since I was in a fishing area that's what I would get. Shame on the chef they were of the boil in a bag variety.Otherwise the food was OK.The staff were top class especially HAZEL our server at breakfast and dinner she always had a smile and was cheery as was the young man who assisted herher was entertainment one evening which was provided by a singer/accordionist Although there were only about 10/12 people it was a good night with lots of banter back and forth. The water pressure in the room was terrible and it would have taken all day to fill the bath. The room 122 was clean and tidy with great views over the harbour and sea all in all we had a pleasant stay and would go back. It was also noticeable that the company is working its way through refurbishment and since the place was built in 1903 it could take some time. The bad bit is the very changeable weather , but as we say in Scotland " there is no such thing as bad weather " ONLY BAD CLOTHING It is such a beautiful setting and part of the country don't let my review put you off folks.

Room tip: I had a look in 123 which was being refurbished Four poster, new carpets, new shower cabinet Best view in hotel

Thank you for the kind comments and constructive criticism. We are continuing our refurbishment programme as we speak. We will also complete the re-decoration of the external area, starting next month.
