Wonderful place, easy going, friendly, fun, eclectic, no fuss, great surroundings, and great food.

Not cheap bar food, but rather local ingredients & well prepared. I am not a food critic, I'm just saying: It tasted delicious to me. They have their menu available on-line, if you want to check out the type of food.

The atmosphere is the best: an unencumbered directness of serving you good food, with a reminder that life isn't all that serious: laugh a little!

I saw reviews that people had bad service experience. We didn't encounter any issues, and the place was hopping. Yes, you didn't have some water-boy hover around your table anticipating your very next move - but who wants that anyways? We walked into the wrong door to begin with (the patio in the back), and the waitress just laughed & pulled us up front to figure out seating. Locals chatted with us, telling us about the place (you quickly will distinguish yourself as a non-local by the way you turn your head to take in all the unique decorations in this place). We didn't have any reservations, but they squeezed us in with a smile. The atmosphere was fun and loud, chatter, laughter, and music. As I said, no problem with the service, and the food was delicious. We got the special, cheese-encrusted halibut. It was no problem to ask if we can share this dish. And along with the appetizer we ordered, it was plenty of food. The bread they served was extra yummy, and when asked, the server said: "Oh, I make that myself every day. It's different all the time. Hmm.... I'm trying to remember what I put in this time, now that you all like it so much!"

I highly recommend this place! Go there and enjoy yourself and your dining neighbors, and some locally caught halibut.

I had heard about Ajax often in the past 20+ years, but never been. Friends invited us to join them there for dinner and made reservations for Saturday night (four couples). I read the previous reviews prior to our dinner & am delighted to say our experience was nothing but positive. We were greeted outside the Cafe by a gregarious gentleman who ushered us in to the wonderfully eclectic atmosphere. Our server immediately offered cocktails, which came in a variety of colorful glasses along with two baskets of fresh bread. Four of us ordered salmon, one fettucini, one cod, one flatiron steak, and one soup & salad. Everyone raved about the food -- there was not a scrap left on any plate! We enjoyed watching the bartender prepare a flaming after-dinner coffee drink that smelled so yummy he had to prepare another one. The lemon curd dessert was happily shared among those of us who had room for one or two bites. There was not an empty seat in the place, & it was full of folks having fun. A most memorable & enjoyable evening!

We have eaten here many times, great food, great service, etc., but our recent visit was not so terrific. The service was very, very slow in all aspects. Our order of ribs was tough, not fall off the bone tender, like usual. Another of our party ordered the pork roast, which was also a little tough. The entertainment was very loud, made it very difficult to talk at all, I think they should tone it down a little or take more frequent breaks. Still lots of hats, but some are really falling apart and need replacing. We definitely won't give up on this place since it's been so fantastic in the past. Hope they were just having an off night.

My husband and I ate at the Ajax Cafe last weekend. We were with another couple who had previously eaten at the restaurant but this was our first visit. Three in our party had their signature ribs and I had a sirloin steak with blue cheese. My dish was excellent as were the ribs. The service was just average but the atmosphere was fun and lively. I did think that the entertainment was too loud given the size of the restaurant (small). I wanted to leave because the music was too loud to allow conversation. I would go back but on a night when no entertainment was being offered.

My grand mother and I went to Ajax for dinner while we were visiting for a wine tour in the area. WE LOVED IT! They have this tradition about wearing hats but I don't want to spoil it so ask your server. You can wear your own or they have wall after wall of hats to borrow. It was so fun to pick from theirs! It's a cooky place! (In a wonderful ecliptic way.) None of the dishes match. There was a tiny stage and live music! The food was fabulous but the atmosphere is what sells it! If I lived near Ajax I would take all of my visitors, young and old, there! It was low key quirky fun. Do try the more affordable specials and don't forget to make reservations!
