We stayed 2 nights at the Bavarian Inn because of a friend's positive previous experience. We were not disappointed. I long ago ceased expecting perfection but the Bavarian Inn came close to the ideal . It has a beautiful view of the Potomac River and has easy access to the C & O towpath trail which was the reason for our trip. There are 2 restaurants: one formal and the other casual. The town of Shepherdstown is small but has a lot of character. There are several restaurants, a bike shop, a book store, clothing stores, and a coffee shop that looks like 1969 all over again.
The room we were in was a small one but could sleep 3. It also had a balcony where we saw that gorgeous view of the river.
The desk people were professional and quickly registered us. They told us we could lock our bikes to the tennis court fence (not a very good option) or take the bikes to our room (A small room is not much better option). There was no listing for guest laundry which is needed for bicyclists. There is a swimming pool but it was not yet in season.More
