So I'll be honest. I wasn't looking for a 5-star experience or outstanding guest service during my stay. I was on a mission, my 3 friends and I needed a cheap, convenient place to stay for a night so we could be first in line for a concert the following day. I booked the hotel on their website for 60.00 plus the obvious resort fees & parking for 2 cars it quickly added up to 100.00. Whatever no problem. just check in, sleep, leave, DONE. Not how it went down.
Upon arrival we were greeted at the front desk by a gentlemen in his mid 20's latino, he was friendly, he asked us about our stay. I told him it was for a concert. He then informed me that I would be ABLE to keep both cars on their property until the concert was OUT! I was elated. that meant I wouldn't have to drive around hellish Downtown San Diego the day of, looking for more pricey parking. I asked him If I'd be charged for an extra day, and he said "No, its included in your stay with us, you can come back as late as 12:00 AM 10/24 if needed." I was stoked. It seemed kinda to good to be true, but I told myself to ask at check out the next day JUST TO MAKE SURE.
Our 1 night stay was fine, the rooms where fine, the 3 flights of stairs where fine, the horrible squeaky, "tower of terror" style elevator was fine. But it wasn't until the next morning that I couldn't believe!
Check out was at 11:00 AM, ( we where also told by the nice, young man we could request "late" check out at 12:00 PM) Which we chose. At approx. 11:30 AM we heard tons of yelling and commotion, we looked outside our window and saw SDPD raiding a room for drugs RIGHT ACROSS THE WAY! We saw the officer throw out 5 different crack-heads and have them stand outside in a line, we also saw them find and destroy crack pipes outside in the parking lot! Lovely, absolutely LOVELY! At that point NONE of us where willing to leave our room in fear of our safety.
At 12:05 PM we receive a phone call from the front desk. A crabby old woman starts shouting on the other line: "CHECK OUT IS NOON, YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE ROOM NOW OR YOU BE CHARGED AGAIN." Are you serious? Don't you see the crime scene unfolding outside our room? Fine, we had the only male in our group take all the bags to my car, and make sure the area was secured before he escorted us out of the hotel room. We were petrified.
As we walked down and watched officers arrest the drug addicts. I REMEMBERED I needed to verify the parking situation with the front desk before I left. My instincts told me so. The new front desk lady (indian descent, mid 40s, black hair w/blonde highlights) took my room keys with no smile or word. I then told her about our cars, and just wanted to verify that she knew. OH MAN, that did not go over well. She shouted "NO, absolutely NOT, your parking is only covered during your stay and it HAS ALREADY EXPIRED, you must remove your car from our property immediately." Then another lady started chiming in saying the same thing. I was being attacked. I felt my blood boil! How could they be so rude and unwilling to listen. I then yelled back and the woman got her supervisor. The "supervisor" was a young male in his early 20s he even said himself he heard the guy tell us about the parking. And he was going to honor it an additional night. THANK GOD. but oh the rudeness doesn't end there!
After the concert we came back to the hotel approx 12:00 AM, we had parked the other car in their private underground garage, we rang the doorbell and the night attendant came on over the intercom, he asked what room we where staying in....oh boy...So I explained the situation to him and GUESS WHAT! all I got was grief. The man was so rude, and pretty much wasn't willing to open the garage because I wasn't physically staying in room 302. No matter how I explained that his supervisor approved it, blah blah. Finally after 10 minutes of bickering, he opened the garage and hung up on us! Super classy.
Bottom line, you get what you pay for. But after it was all said and done, 100.00 later I WOULD OF PAYED 200.00 to have saved myself the grief and regret of staying at such a disgusting place. And honestly it wasn't the hotel room itself. It was the staff.
About our group: total:4 people, completely sober, quiet adults. No bad-behavior, partying, late nights etc.
Ugh, just don't stay here. It seems cheap, but after all the fees and crappy attitudes you star...
