My wife and I stayed four nights at this excellent hotel, which was the perfect base from which to explore NYC on our first visit to the city. We were warmly welcomed by Jay and Rumel, who gave us maps and recommendations for local sights, the metro, good restaurants, shows etc. Rumel also got us discounted tickets to a Broadway show. The buffet breakfast is huge with fresh bread, fruit etc.
The room (on the 5th floor!) was larger than we expected, clean and comfortable, with a view over the garden. All the rooms are dedicated to a Hollywood star - ours was Anne Francis.
The location is brilliant for the High Line, Chelsea Market, Greenwich Village and the Hudson River walk, with easy access to several metro lines.
This definitely not your average corporate hotel catering for business people - it's a lovely boutique hotel that we'd recommend for couples and families to explore the city from. If we're ever in New York again, we'd definitely go back

Room tip: No lift, so lower floors better. Also garden view nicer.

This is an excellent hotel and I echo all the positive comments about the staff and how friendly and helpful they are, the breakfast being fresh, high quality and welcoming, and the hotel itself with great character and location. The unexpected star of the show was how comfortable the bed was - probably the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in, even with jet lag thrown in. I am already looking forward to our next visit.

If you like to stay somewhere different, that has real character and a human face, then this would be a great choice. It is informal but still very efficient - a help yourself breakfast bar with good quality ingredients turns into a refreshment station with fruit, homemade cakes and hot drinks available at no charge for the rest of the day. Friendly staff who are always ready to help, and an owner who will make you feel that you are the guests they have been waiting for. Why stay somewhere faceless, soulless and functional? Much more interesting to enjoy all aspects of your stay in New York by choosing this hotel - and it is in a great location, just to complete the picture.

I write this review with mixed feelings. If too many people find out about this great property, it might get hard to book a room. I have nothing but praise for the location, the staff, the gourmet breakfast spread, and oh, did I mention the staff? My husband and I visit New York about twice a year. We have stayed at various hotels, but this is the first one that we really want to go back to. In an age of corporate everything, where many hotels look the same regardless of the city, this place is unique, cozy and fun. The back garden was a delightful escape from a day of sightseeing and a walk on the High Line. Our room was comfortable, decorated with a fun movie theme, the shower was heavenly, and the oversized towels nice and soft. Don't miss this one next time you are in town.

five stars says it all when it comes to chelsea pines. it exceeds expectations when it comes to location, staff, breakfast, snacks, garden, and jay lesiger, the incomparable owner/host of this iconic inn. it is clean, charming, quirky, cozy, and i will return again and again.

Room tip: if weather allows, enjoy the weather.
