This was my second time staying at the Marriott Marquis. It was worse than my first stay...
First the service. Imagine this: You go into their Broadway Lounge to meet friends, sit at the table, and the waitress refuses to serve you because she's "too busy." No kidding. This is how it happened: We waited patiently for the waitress, but when she came to our table she only took refill orders from the people she had already served at our table. I said, "Excuse me," three times, and others at the table echoed me, and she walked away. Twenty minutes later when she returned with the drinks (and meanwhile, the entire table talked about how shockingly rude she was), I stood up, faced her, and said, "Can we please order a drink?", to which she replied, "I'm too busy. Go to the bar and get it yourself." ?????!!!!! Seriously?!
One person at our table was particularly SHOCKED at this unabashed request because she had already tried to order at the bar and the bartender told her to go back to her table and wait for her server.
I've travelled a lot. I've been all over Europe, Canada, USA, Mexico, etc... and I can honestly say I've never had a server tell me to go get it myself.
IF the Marquis was a cheap 3-star hotel, I'd say that you get what you pay for. However, the Marquis is not cheap. Hence, I would expect a room without mould and mildew and servers who don't mind serving. And for the record, I always leave a 20-25% tip... if I actually get served.
When I wrote to the Marquis about my stay, they said they would check into the mould problem in the BATHROOM of the room I stayed in (for the record, I didn't say where the mould was) and that they had notified the Broadway Lounge about the rude server. For recompense they gave me 2,500 Marriott points on my rewards cards with them. Just to put this into perspective - I signed up for a Marriott Rewards visa and received 30,000 points on my first $15 purchase.
Not sure if the mould issue has been dealt with. Not sure if the server issue has been dealt with. But since I'm an avid Trip Advisor member, I thought I would post a buyers beware blurb. If you're paying more than $250/night for this hotel, you're definitely overpaying.
