Our last stay at Carr's was over 30 years ago. On our last visit to the Smokies over 10 years ago, we dropped by Carr's to check it out. We were impressed that they had built family apartments and cottages, in addition to standard traditional hotel rooms with just the 2 double beds. When we planned our August 2010 trip, we wanted a place that offered 2-separate bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen at a price that would not break the bank. We have a 19 year old son and did not want a traditional hotel room. We all wanted our space. Even the better hotels/ motels in Gatlinburg do not offer you the living space that you get at Carr's. It's tucked away on one of the side streets, but within walking distance to the downtown shops. You are surrounded by greenery. There is a wonderful shaded picnic area next to the mountain creek behind the motel rooms. In the open area there is a playgound for the kids. The pool area is nice with a wading pool, a regular pool and a hot tub. Just tell the reservation clerk what you want (2 or 3 bedrooms, full kitchen, etc.), and I am sure they can find something to fit your needs. Word of warning: Don't expect perfection. Yes, the furniture is dated. The blankets should have been retired several years ago; so bring your own. I bought a beautiful quilt and put it on our bed. It would be easy to pick at every little thing, but our rooms were clean and we were not on top of each other, and the atmosphere is very nice.

We wanted to get away for a long, relaxing weekend and stayed in one of the Chalets. Although described as a one room chalet, the place was huge, with cathedral ceilings an alcove for the bed & dresser as well as, a kitchen, jacuzzi tub, fireplace and deck. The chalet was tucked away amongst the trees and it was nearly impossible to imagine that the city of Gatlinburg was mere blocks from our location. We didn't even leave the chalet the entire time we were there, other than to get the morning newspaper. For a nice getaway with your spouse or partner, this is the place to stay.

My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Gatlinburg that was walkable to town and had the potential to be romantic. Carr's ended up delivering just what we wanted. We got a room by the stream with a porch, kitchenette, and whirlpool bath. The stream was so cool and right next to our door. As soon as we got there we kicked our shoes off and waded through. The whirlpool bath really hit the spot after a day of hiking and rafting in the Smokies. And we felt so secluded since we only saw one other person outside our room in 2 days.
The walk to town isn't bad, maybe 10 minutes max to the town center. The walk back is a bit tougher since the last half-mile is all uphill, and maybe could be tough with little ones or elderly. Another good thing about the location is that you don't really have to drive through town to get there or to get to a lot of hiking places, which was nice since the main streets of town were always packed during the day.
