Spent there 3 nights, in room n°5 (350kIDR). The room is nice, white walls, nice bed and a large terrace on the garden, with beautiful view on the forest (seems some guest saw the sea, they maybe had too much Bintang...). The place is clean, even if we had to ask to towel change and if the bathroom cleaning is average (when you are staying few days at least).
The place is quiet with a beautiful garden and mountains view, but anyway you may be waked up at 5 or 6am because of all animals around, and the only road crossing Munduk is not far as well... I guess this will be the same in all Munduk accommodation.
Restaurant menu is limited and meals quality is average, you have better to go outside in some warung or restaurant (see Don Biyu).
Maybe they saw previous guest comment on TA, they gave us the map from another Guesthouse for the treks, it was OK for us - means you can make some beautiful walk around without guide.
Location is great, in the village, not far from the walks start points, from warung, shops, .. (a lot of accommodation are 1 or 2kms above the village)
This is still a good value hotel, but consider to have your meals outside.

We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2013. The first night, there was some confusion with the rooms and we ended up having to stay at the lower building (not the one beside the desk or with the gardens, but the one lower down another ramp/flight of stairs). This room was not great. It was tiny with barely enough room to walk around the bed. It also had a moldy smell, and a funny line of ants going in and out. The washroom was also dark and dingy.

The next night, we were moved up to the main building. This room was actually quite nice! Smelled clean, balcony etc. If we had just stayed here, I would have rave reviews.

The staff was also not great. Although kind and perfectly friendly, they were not very helpful in terms of trekking maps or arranging transportation elsewhere. We asked about prices for transport and they never got back to us. We ended up walking up to the Aditya homestay and arranged our transportation there, as they were more helpful. Their hiking map was also FAR more detailed and far better than the one at Karangsari! My advice is that regardless, go grap this map from Aditya.

Frankly, although the upper room was pretty, Aditya was nicer for better value. If you can, stay there.

Room tip: Stay in the main building ($5 more/night). The other rooms in the lower building are not nice at all.

Karangsari is a guesthouse located in Munduk. Munduk is a very small mountain village with not much to do except hiking or exploring Bali by motorcycle.
Karangsari is perfectly located with stunning views on the valley of Munduk. For 20 euro's a room this place is a bargain! The staff is very helpful and eager to help. The rooms are good value, only negative point was that our rooms were located next to the busy road but during the night the noise was bearable!

I've also checked the other places in Munduk but Karangsari was defintly the best place to stay for our budget!

The staff is very friendly. That's the best part of this place. The rooms are not nice: white tiles in an unattractive building close to the road, what makes it quite noisy beacause of the traffic. The breakfast is really very poor.
