Nice and elegant guesthouse. A bit outdated to have five stars. Rooms are ok and beds are good. Breakfast the usual: bacon and eggs, toast, fruit and some delicious pastry.
Friendly reception by lady of the house who helped us pick a good restaurant.

We always choose to stay at this establishment. Once again we were warmly greeted by our hostess, who arranged dinner reservations for us within walking distance of the guesthouse.
The house is clean, neat, no frills, no fuss.... just good heart warming hospitality. Breakfast was hearty and wholesome. Extra heaters and blankets were provided. Thank you.

Room tip: Choose the room that opens onto the pool. My daughter chose the room with the jacuzzi.

We reached this beautiful house in the evening. Cathy gave us the price quoted at the tourist information for the beautiful rooms. There was sherry in the lounge for the guest. There was also wi-fi available.

Breakfast was excellent the following morning. Cathy made it a point to call the police for fear of road closure from Montagu to Cape Town during the recent protest. She also suggested a wine cafe along the way back which we passed and did not stop because of time limitation. There were many people outside the cafe, just passed robertson, at about 12 noon.

I sincerely thanked her for recommending a stop at one of the farms to visit the llama and pony. I got too close to the llama and got bitten on my shoulder!

I recommend Montagu as an excellent place to rest the head along Route 62.

On our way from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn we stayed 1 night at the John Motagu guesthouse. We had a clean and lovely room (see photograph). The manager (Cathy) offers a lot of information to the guests and on her advise we went to the hot springs of Montagu. Later that evening Cathy had made reservations at Jessica's where we had a great dinner. At night there was some noise from other guests. Cathy came over and solved that situation effectively. In the morning we even got a big jar of delicious marmelade to take home and apoligies for the noise made by the other guests. Breakfast was good. The house has a nice atmosphere and there is also a complete kitchen which can be used by guests who wish to cook for themselves.

During our trip from Durban to Capetown, our stay in John Montagu guest house was very good. The establishment is undoubtedly one of the best price vs. performance places we have stayed. Besides the pleasant overall physical atmosphere the hospitality also helped a lot to make our stay a better one. And the breakfast was also very good.

Now we are back at Durban and asing ourselves why didn't we spend one more night there.
