Plan Your Trip to Vancouver: Best of Vancouver Tourism

About Vancouver
This British Columbia city is a real jewel of Canada’s west coast, combining the cultural perks of city life with all the nature you could want. Get your history fix at the Museum of Anthropology (known for its extensive First Nations collection). The city’s food scene serves up everything from dim sum at the country’s largest Chinatown, to Canadian comfort classics like poutine. But during the summer, it’s all about churros and butter beer at Richmond Night Market, the biggest of its kind in North America. When you’ve had your fill, explore Vancouver’s past on a stroll through Gastown, taking in the cobblestone streets and Victorian-style architecture. Or spend your days exploring the city’s incredible nature: don’t miss Grouse Mountain, Stanley Park, and the world-famous Capilano Suspension Bridge, which spans 450 feet across the Capilano River. Get even more tips on what to explore below.

Family friendly Vancouver

As someone who was born and raised in the heart of Vancouver, and is now raising three children in the same city, I can vouch for Vancouver’s child-friendly scene. There’s lots to do here—even on rainy days, with activities to please children of all ages (and the parents, too). Here are the top family-friendly sites to see in my home city.
BiancaBujan, North Vancouver, Canada
  • Kids Market
    50
This towering, two-story shopping mall is all about the children. Packed with locally-owned toy stores, multi-level play structures, an expansive arcade, and snack spots to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters, this is a great spot to spend a day. And steps away, you’ll find North America’s largest free water park, with a winding water slide, spray park and playground.
  • Science World
    1,416
Get silly with science in Vancouver’s iconic geodesic dome, where educational exploration is made fun with immersive exhibits, hands-on galleries, engaging demos, and play spaces for active children. Plus, Science World is home to the world’s largest domed screen, the OMNIMAX Theatre, with five-story stacked screens and a state-of-the-art sound system that brings the show to life.
  • Talking Trees: Stanley Park Indigenous Walking Tour Led by a First Nations Guide
    63
Vancouver was originally called K'emk'emeláy, which means “a place of many maple trees”, and is located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples. On an engaging Indigenous-led “Talking Trees” tour led by Talaysay Tours, you can trek through Stanley Park and learn about the land’s origins and the people who first called this place home.
  • FlyOver Canada
    6,713
Geography-wise, Canada is the second largest country in the world, so seeing it all at once would be an impossible feat. But on this flying ride, you can soar over the country from coast to coast within minutes. See Canada’s most stunning sights from a bird’s-eye view, feel the wind on your face, and take in the scents, all thanks to advanced technology.
  • Playland
    232
Are you even in Vancouver if you haven’t ridden the wooden roller coaster? Built in 1958, the city’s most iconic ride is housed at Playland, BC’s biggest and best amusement park. In the summer, the park becomes part of the Pacific National Exhibition, an annual summer fair featuring live concerts, exhibits, and adrenaline-pumping thrill rides.
  • Bloedel Conservatory
    864
Find free-flying birds and butterflies in this delightful dome, located in Queen Elizabeth Park. The Bloedel Conservatory is a haven for horticulturists, but you don’t have to have a green thumb to enjoy the exotic plants and flowers found here. Ask for a scavenger hunt map—the perfect way to keep little ones engaged.
  • Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden
    1,592
The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden—in Vancouver’s Chinatown—was the first of its kind to be built outside of Asia. Take a free guided tour, stroll through the intimate “garden of ease,” and spot colourful carp and lazy turtles in the water. The perfect way to wrap up your visit—a free cup of tea.
  • Vancouver Aquarium
    8,606
Stanley Park’s biggest draw is a must-see. At the Vancouver Aquarium, the fluffy sea otters have gained celebrity status in this city. And while it’s a great place to get up-close with ocean life, it’s also a safe haven for the animals, since it’s a centre for marine research, ocean literacy, and climate activism.
  • Kitsilano Pool
    334
Perched right on top of the ocean on Vancouver’s most vibrant beach, Kits Pool is Canada’s longest swimming pool. The gradual-entry, cyan-coloured, salt-water outdoor pool is one of the city’s most popular places to play on a warm summer day. Nearby, you’ll find sandy beaches, spacious green spaces, and Vancouver’s largest fully-accessible playground.
