Lima overview

Lima, Peru, and its environs are a treasure trove of ancient history. Archaeological sites contain ruins of the Incas and earlier cultures, and some museums display their artefacts. Spanish colonial times and more recent history are represented by churches, government buildings and historic houses. Among Lima's museums is one devoted to the Inquisition. Lima’s crowded city centre is surrounded by neighbourhoods ranging from shantytowns to beachfront areas with upmarket shopping, dining and accommodation.
