- Climber67553400A must do in PVRIt was absolutely an amazing food and cocktail tour! Our guide, Luis, was super accommodating and helped us still enjoy every bit of it even through the intense rains (and I am one who would usually not partake but trekked through and enjoyed the whole experience). The tacos were great the cocktails were delicious and all the history we gained along the way was greatly appreciated. Would definitely recommend!
- 521lawrencel00Tasty experience!Had Miel Garcia as our tour guide and she was AWESOME! Got way more value out of this tour than advertised. Miel was knowledgeable about the history of each location we ate at, the history of each item we ate and the origin of all the ingredients used. I highly recommend this tour and if you get Miel as your guide you are in for a treat!
- Z2229VEmichaelw00Great Food Tour...Terrific Tour GuideThis was a fabulous food tour. First and foremost, the tour guide was phenomenal. Chris was a local, however he was partly raised in Denver, Colorado. Therefore, his English was impeccable and his knowledge of the history of the city was highly informative. And then there was the food! We went to 8 or 9 terrific family-owned locations. Each you could tell took great pride in their establishment. All offerings were well seasoned and quite tasty. The two dessert places at the end were a great way to end the afternoon. Warning...we did our tour in October and it was HOT! Chris had plenty of water for our 12-person tour, though I went through 4 bottles personally. And be sure to pace yourself or else you will fill your belly too quickly and want have the opportunity to enjoy the last few places!
- austinhE973MR00Good food and recommendations plus a cultural backgroundMiel did an excellent job taking us on a morning food tour in downtown Puerto Vallarta. She had an amazing knowledge of the culture behind the dishes and was quick to note any food preferences. She also provided us with a map of where we visited and a couple other recommendations, this list helped us pick local, safe places to eat with delicious food that wasn't overly priced for the rest of our trip. Definitely advise to do this tour on one of the first days of your trip.
- 482ygl00FANTASTIC!A fantastic tour. Chris, our guide, was fantastic. All the food was amazing. Getting to try the various cocktails and shots along with learning the history was so much fun. We never felt rushed either. It took almost 4 hours (thankfully...as it was a lot of food!). We highly recommend this tour.
- luctrips00Amazing food and drink tour - do it!Luis was amazing! Such a great way to explore and experience amazing local food and drink! I'd recommend doing it at the start of your trip so you have all the tips for places for the rest of your trip. Eat, drink and learn the best combo!
- alansA8878OZ00Mixology Tour Excellent 🎉🥂🕺Luis was informative, fun, and entertaining. Would definitely take another tour with him. Learn so much about Agave!
- Connector0903199659500What are you waiting for? Book this tour!Looking for something different than the usual cruise ship offerings? I booked this tour with minimal expectations and was pleasantly surprised! If your a foodie or just want to try different tastings that PV has to offer, this is a NO BRAINER.! We were 10 minutes late to the venue because we were follow the ships time (which was an hour behind), but we called ahead and spoke to our tour guide Bernardo who was able to accommodate us. Very easy to contact the company. We caught a taxi from the cruise terminal which was a 15 minute ride. We were greeted with a bottle of water by our tour guide, Bernardo. We walked through the old part of town and ended at the Malecon downtown. The food was amazing! Chilaquiles, birria tacos, ceviche tostados, pork taco, Fresca drinks, mole and flan. We stopped at various restaurants and tour spots. Bernardo was the best tour guide. He was personable and very knowledgeable. He was passionate about his job and took pride in “my country”. We loved that he shared tidbits of PV and his honest opinions to our questions. It was about 2 1/2 hours of moderate walking. Tip: it was hot ..so bring an extra bottle of water, hat and wear good walking shoes. Skip breakfast or ear a light breakfast. If your on a cruise, plan accordingly to PV time vs ship time (ours ship time was an hour behind!)
- 377emlynm00Yummy for my tummy!Food tour was amazing! All the stops were delicious! Our tour guide Bernardo was great! Very friendly and personable. He was very informative about the food, but also about the city. Wear comfortable shoes and eat a light breakfast or skip breakfast all together if you’re going during lunch. Here’s a few pics of the some of the stops.
- F455QGkatied00Must do in PV!My husband and I went on this tour at the suggestion of one of our ex-pat friends who lived in PV for years. She said it was a “must do” while visiting. She was right. Our tour guide, Miel, was a wealth of knowledge about the food, history and culture. We definitely made it to some spots we never would have tried on our own, and I’m so glad we did. Thank you Miel for a memorable evening!
- Suesk800Just book it and go!! Tacos tacos tacos!!This experience was so fun & we had an absolute blast! We have been to PV a few times, but wanted to try this experience to explore the city a bit more, and boy did we!! Our gide Cris was very knowledgeable about PV and was awesome! So many good tacos and drinks! I am a pescatarian, and had absolutely no problem at all eating at all the stops. We stoped in to a few nice restaurants, taco stands as well as a couple of local bars with amazing cocktails! I would definitely recommend this experience! 10 out of 10
- lisamK1423WE00Great experience. A must when visiting PV.Our tour guide, Miel, was so sweet and informative with lots of taco history. We were her “family” for the evening. The food was amazing and will take the morning tour next time we are here. A great experience for an evening get together with friends.
- Jasmine S00Tequila loverFelipe gave us an awesome experience. He is very passionate about his job and I hope to see him again on next class! If you haven’t booked with him you are missing out !
- 0stephs00Fantastic Tour and brilliant guideChris our guide was amazing , So welcoming , knowledgeable and engaging , The venues we visited were fantastic , i could not recommend Chris and this tour highly enough , Thank you
- willieb78700Miel was a wonderful guide. The food waws also great. Our tour guide had a great ability to share both the history of Vallarta, and that of Mexico. This was my first time here and it was wonderful that she was able to do that. The places that she took us were all more than excellent. I would do this again. I would hope to get the same tour guide, but would go with someone else because the company has impressed me and I believe they would have the same standard with all their guides.

What a great way to see the local seen and eat local food. Al, our guide, was terrific. He gave us background on every restaurant and explained all of the foods and why they were important to the region. He did not rush us but let us take in all the ambiance. We have lived in the area and been here many times. This is tour worth you dollars.

My husband and I were treated to an extra special private tour of Pitillal since we were the only ones with a booking today! Our guide was Al and he was very friendly, personable, and likable person to spend 3 hours with. We immediately felt like long time friends with him especially when we found out he had family in Yuba City, CA, US where we also have relations.
Anyway, the tour itself was fun and interesting. We learned a lot about the history and culture of the food made in Pitillal. Everything was locally made and many places were family-owned by generations of Mexicans instead of major tourist chains. Al helped us order food, translated menus, and sat and chatted with us about the food at every stop. I am 5 months pregnant so have aversions to everything but Al made sure to pick out foods to my liking. It was also well paced so that you don’t get full too quickly and I didn’t tire out as well. My favorite spots included a tortilla factory where we went behind the counter to see the production and even enjoyed a tortilla hot off the machine; also, we went inside an authentic residence where tamales and atol were sold. The tamale place is normally closed on weekdays with long lines on weekends but they allowed us into their home on a weekday and we watched family members shucking corn husks, slicing corn, shredding chicken, and kneading dough. The tamale was the best I will ever have in this lifetime and so fluffy!!!! We also visited the local church where a mass was being held for a quincenera.
This experience was absolutely authentic and was a breath of fresh air to spend time with locals away from the tourists. Everything was inexpensive as well.
Highly recommend to anyone thinking of booking this tour! Thank you Al!!!!!!!

This was an amazing tour! Our guide, Joana was absolutely fantastic. Her knowledge and stories about the families that own the establishments we visited made us feel like we knew them. I am sure she's done this tour a 1000 times, but her respect and admiration for the families/restaurants she took us to was palpable. Obviously the food was amazing..real mexican food..everything was made from scratch and out of this world! By far the highlight of our vacation. You will not regret taking this tour..just make sure you come hungry!!!!

Guides: Joana and Bernardo were engaging, funny, and very informative on the food, the Pitillal neighborhood, and local Puerto Vallaran culture. They are real assets to any tour.
Food: I'm not willing to spill the exact dishes and locations, but I found their choices of stalls and restaurants to be excellent. I was pleased that not all the stops were tacos.
Pitillal neighborhood: refreshingly devoid of tourists with a comfortable ambiance: colorful and bustling.
One thing: There were two times available that day (10:30am and 11am). I booked an 11am tour through TripAdvisor/Viator, and I got a call on my cellphone at 10:35am while I was en route saying that I was *late*. When I got there, I was told that I was the only one booked for 11am and that we'd be "catching up" to the 10:30am group. While having some element of this is nice (ie. private tour for some stops), I couldn't help but feel a little rushed until we caught up with the 10:30 group. This feels like an issue with the Operator (Vallarta Food Tours) than my guides. Telling someone they're late (when they're not) is not a good start.
Bottom Line: If you're looking to sample foods off the beaten path with some great guides, this is a great tour. Just book the 10:30am

Bernardo was our guide and he was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable about the little community of Pitillal. Every place we visited offered wonderful fresh food with a long “family” history which Bernardo shared. All I can say is come hungry!! One restaurant, Robles was usually closed today but opened up for our small group of 8 for delicious light tomales. Bernardo also took us to the beautiful neighborhood church which is a “must see” in PuertoVallarta. The Pitillal is a little gem with wonderful food options, fresh food markets with a bit of shopping mixed in.

Miel was an outstanding tour guide. I’ve taken tours in many countries and she is one of the best. Her explanations of the food we tasted in many restaurants taught me not only about ingredients but increased my knowledge of Mexico’s history and culture.

This tour gives you more than your money's worth. Not only do you learn about the culture of this area, the food is great also. Al was a super guide. Would recommend this tour to anyone coming to PV and want to see something other than what the resorts have to offer.

I did the Taste of Pitillal from Vallarta Food Tours last year and wanted to do it again. I love Pitillal. It is a unique barrio which is quite different from most of the tourist areas we normally see.
Much of the tour was the same as last year, with a few exceptions. We started out at a churros stand which was probably the best churro I’ve ever had in PV. Next to this stand was a place where fishermen bring their catches to be prepared for sales to restaurants and markets. The fresh catches were a HUGE Dorado (served as Mahi-Mahi in restaurants), a very large tuna, and 2 containers of very large shrimp. It was very interesting to see.
Back to the tour – we made approximately 6 other stops for carnitas, tacos de chorizo, tostadas de mariscos, tacos de birria de dorado, tamales con queso and bell peppers, and paletas for dessert. New this year was a stop at restaurant Candora, where we got to choose what we wanted on our tacos from a wide variety of fillings. The chorizo was excellent. I have to mention the names of the other restaurants since all of them were wonderful and very welcoming – Neto’s, Pichis, Birrieria Robes, and Tia Anita.
Our guide, Bernardo, was excellent. He was extremely informative and always happy to answer questions. His English is excellent. We had a group of 12 (larger than any food tour I’ve had) but Bernardo did a great job of taking us around, organizing, and making sure we were happy and comfortable.
While the tour is 3-3.5 hours, the time seemed to pass much more quickly. None of us were tired but we were extremely full - satisfyingly so.
Once again, I loved this experience and the food. And our guide Bernardo made it even more special.
I should add – please remember to TIP your guide. They work extremely hard and are great at what they do.

This tour is a culinary walking tour through the Pitillal neighborhood. You will not see any other tourist gringos - you are eating where the locals eat! We had 7 stops where we had carnitas taco, carne asada taco, machaca taco, seafood tostada, birria taco, tamal and atole, and ice fruit popsicle. Our tour guide also took us to the San Miguel Arcangel Parish Church, a local tortilleria, and pointed out various local food vendors and shops. Great tour for foodies interested in getting off the beaten path.

Joana was our guide, she was knowledgeable about both food and Mexican culture. As we went from place to place, she shared a background story about how long each restaurant had been in business, and introduced us to the owner if they were available. Her shared information about the neighborhood and what had grown and changed over the years was really interesting.
She introduced us to ‘typical’ Mexican drinks and food, (new to us) what they were made of and when you might drink or eat them. All the food was amazing!

Yes it's websearch Vallarta food tours. Taste of Pitillal tour is Thursday and Saturday. Our tour started at 11 at the gazebo on the main plaza. We ate a wide variety of tacos...meat, seafood and vegetable, tamales, churros, popsicles and several nonalcoholic drinks.

My wife has a knee problem and can't walk for long periods or long distances. How far is the tour and is the walking done at a slow pace?
Denis S

The distance between stops is not is that far, compared to other tours I've been on, probably 4-5 blocks, per stop. But, like any walking in Mexico, the sidewalks are uneven, and there is stepping up and down at corners and crossing street. Pace is leisurely though. This is probably the best tour for your wife, if she can handle some walking. And guide is awesome.
