Your guide collects you first thing in the morning from your Mexico City hotel. You’ll travel by comfortable, air-conditioned mini-bus two hours east to Iztaccihuatl Volcano’s base. Break for breakfast before climbing over the Paso de Cortés to La Joya, where the trail starts at an elevation of 12,000 feet (3,700 meters).
From there, the 3-hour hike takes you to between 13,800 to 15,800 feet (4,200-4,800 meters), depending on the abilities of those in your small group. At your stopping point, you’ll have time to rest, snap photos and admire the view of the Smoking Mountain next door, the active Popocatepetl volcano, as well as the expansive Valley of Mexico.
You’ll descend back to the bus for your return trip to your Mexico City hotel, with a stop to allow hungry hikers to buy lunch from local vendors.
