Overview
Hit five different Mexico City street markets in just one tour. See the range of delicious food, household goods and oddities sold in Mexico’s bustling markets, from pinatas to “love potions,” exotic flowers to tamales. These big city bazaars can be overwhelming, but with a guide, you can shop for offbeat souvenirs and sample Mexico City’s famous market fare without worrying about getting lost.
Highlights
- Explore five of Mexico City’s famously bustling markets in one guided tour
- Cultural experience educates you on the role of markets in Mexican life
- Learn the unique history of each market as you shop for memorable souvenirs
- Sample delicious street food shoulder-to-shoulder with locals
What to Expect
Make your way to Mexico City’s design museum, the Museo Mexicano del Diseno, where you’ll meet your guide and small group. Travel by subway, stopping first at one of the city’s lesser-known markets, where you’ll learn about its ties to Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two of the country’s most celebrated artists, and its role in Mexican culture.
Next, head to the witchcraft market, where potions, remedies, and voodoo dolls get sold alongside party pinatas and costumes. From there, walk to the massive flower market, a 3-in-1 bazaar selling fresh produce, prepared food, and beautiful, exotic flowers.
Satisfy your midday hunger with fresh blended fruit juices, Mexican-style barbecue and steaming tamales. Pace yourself, as your final market stop offers even more food options. You’ll finish the tour back at the design museum.
