High pressure sales by everyone including guides.
Jul 2021 • Couples
Chichen Itza and the Cenote were a wonderful time but everything, including the tour guides was high pressure sales. The guides bring people on to the bus to try and sell you stuff… it made a big culture piece very unpleasant.

Chichen Itza is amazing! Could use a bit less shopping time.
Given the current restrictions in place sure to COVID-19, this was a good trip. In total, we spent:

* 2h at the Mayan community market for souvenir shopping and lunch
* 1.5h at Chicken Itza walking around the ruins with an expert guide
* 50min at Cenote Saamal for a quick dip in the water
* 35min at Valladolid city center for shopping, but it was already the end of business hours.

We hoped on the bus in Tulum at 10am and got back at 8:30pm. It was a total of 4h 55min of activities and 5h 35min on the bus. Folks staying in Cancun had an extra 5h of transport. All the guides were super knowledgeable and told us about Mayan history and culture in between sites.

The visit to Chichen Itza was spectacular, and because of COVID-19, groups are limited to 10 pp, so everybody can hear what the guide is saying. We also were allowed to stay for 1.5h, to avoid crowds on site.

The cenote was quite beautiful, but we were too tired to do all the swimsuit flipflop by then, so we just walked around and had some ice cream.

We got to Valladolid by 6:15pm, so most galleries was already closing, including the chocolate museum. We were able to chomp a churros and but some coffee, but could have used more than 35min to walk around.

It's a good trip and I recommend it for folks leaving from Tulum. Not sure if I'd have enjoyed if I had to leave from Cancun, I'd probably try something more direct like renting a car. At the end, I felt that the trip was a bit too heavy on the shopping side (at the Mayan community) and we could have arrived at Valladolid a bit earleir.

A Full Day!!!
Trip was nice but definitely long. The lunch stop was a little long and they did do some merch sells. The pork tacos were delicious.

The Chechen Itza tour was long enough but would have liked a little more walking. We actually stood in sections listening to the history (which was very informative) but under the sun it got a little hot standing in one place.

The Cenote was only an hour but was incredible.

The town visit was very short which was probably ok but maybe 15 minutes more would have been good. A few food shops and a beautiful town square.

The guides and driver were very nice and professional.

Would have liked a restroom stop on the way back from the small town but other than that it was a good tour.

Jan 2021 • Friends
We had a dreadful experience on this tour. We were so rushed at Chichen Iza and didn’t feel like we got any kind of thorough explanation about its history. We also didn’t even get an hour at the Cenote which was just awful. We only got to spend 30 minutes in Valladolid which made no sense whatsoever. We spent the most time at a gift shop beside the Real Mayab Hotel where we felt immense pressure to buy souvenirs. The guides put so much pressure on us while we were driving there and then the employees followed us around the store trying to encourage us to make purchases. It felt very uncomfortable!! We also ate a “lunch” buffet here which was nasty. The drinks aren’t included in the price which they don’t tell you! And they offer you soft drinks and beer when you sit down. The whole experience was just awful. There’s much better tours out there, give this one a miss!!!!

Avoid avoid avoid!!
Jan 2021 • Couples
These guys are absolute scam artists, avoid this awful tour at all costs!
The first stop on this tour is the seemingly wholesome Real Mayab Hotel and adjoining gift shop. En route to the hotel the guide told us all about the local Mayan community and we were told a shaman would give us a traditional blessing on arrival. We were also told that any purchases we made at the gift shop would contribute greatly to the local Mayan community, so we were happy to peruse the gift shop and it’s offerings.
I saw a bracelet which caught my eye and when I asked how much it cost I was told $1000mx. So I happily made the purchase and then we continued with the tour. Only the next day did I realise I was charged over $9000mx!!! As soon as I realised I contacted the Real Mayab Hotel directly and was in contact with one of their employees via WhatsApp for a number of days. He asked how much I would like to pay for the bracelet and tried to negotiate a price with me through text (because he knew I had been scammed at the gift shop). This back and forth continued for a few days until he stopped answering my texts and calls.
I also went to the Super Aki supermarket a number of times to meet the tour guides. I told them what had happened and asked for their help to get some of my money back. They very clearly didn’t care. One of the guides gave me his mobile number and told me he would be in touch after they visited the hotel that morning. I never heard from him and when I tried to call him I discovered he gave me a fake number. The whole experience left such a sour taste.
The hotel and gift shop is also where you spend the most amount of time on this tour. Sadly you only get 50 minutes at the Cenote and just 30 minutes in Valladolid. They put huge pressure on you to purchase things at the gift shop. Things which we then saw in other shops for a fraction of the price! It’s all a scam. There are much better tours available in Tulum and Cancun. This is a shambles, run by absolute scam artists and should be avoided at all costs!

Viator Tour - Alfredo's Group
Jan 2021
In site visits, tour guides make the difference as most competitive companies provide the basics. Our tour guide was Alfredo, his assistant was Mundo and our driver was Roman. Ask for Alfredo if you can when you call to make your reservation. My tour was fantastic overall but there were two unpleasant points. 1- Buffet was bad, I would have packed a sandwich if I had know what was served. 2- There was a heavily medicated person in the tour bus handing out Xanax for free. We all thought that he was drunk at first but he was on pills. Nevertheless, he started drinking after lunch so he pretty much verified our perception quickly. It just makes difficult to isolate these people from the group. If the tour company could make people sign a simple contract that would give guide the right to isolate them during site visits then my trip would have been a less eventful experience. Anyways, go with Viator, you won't regret it. Ray

Good Value - Be ready to shop or wait for others to shop
Nov 2020 • Couples
We really enjoyed the experience and knowledge of the guides. Chichen Itza is a world treasure! The cenote was amazing but way too busy to be able to have a peaceful experience. A life jacked is required to swim in cenote so have a 20 pesos for that too. The extra fee for government taxes, $13 USD, life jacket was not dicsussed prior to booking. Also, a student took our photos and then made a liquor bottle label from them and did a presentation on the van. We did not like the pressure to buy this and do not drink.

The extra fees and pressure to buy things made us travellers who do not have extra $ to spend uncomfortable. We feel this is important to prepare for so you know what is likely to happen ahead of time.

This trip is great value for the $, just know to bring cash and be prepared to be pressured to buy things. The gratuity for the guides and driver is also really stressed and we thought it took away from it being a laid back experience.
We always tip amd would have likely given more if it hadn't been stressed so much.

Amazing Tour !!
This tour was amazing ! Our tour guide Cesar was so knowledgable and you could tell he loves what he does ! We learned so much about the Mayan culture, so cool ! The itinerary online is not really in order though, first its gift shop/lunch, then chichen itza, then cenote, then last vallalolid city. I loved it super worth it for what you pay ! I had some questions before the tour and they msged me back right away! Very organized and professional group ! Super recommend
