Prince of Whales in Telegraph Cove are the best!
Aug 2021
We had family visiting us from Nova Scotia who were interested in going whale watching. Even though we are from Campbell River where there are many choices for whale watching in our own area, we knew Telegraph Cove was the place to go.
We booked the excursion via Viator and saved enough to enjoy an early dinner at the pub after our amazing time on the water.

We chose the bigger boat instead of the zodiac to have the luxury of on board bathrooms . We booked the 12:15 tour.

Almost immediately upon leaving the harbour, we started seeing Dahl’s porpoises and within 15 minutes spotted the black fins we were most hoping to see! 9 orcas (calves included!) of the I pod/G clan mesmerized us for nearly an hour.

Then it was on to find the humpbacks.....and they didn’t disappoint. At least 6 humpbacks put on quite the show for us, sometimes with 2-3 visible in different directions at once. Icing on the cake was when a calf breached, not once, but twice right in front of us!

The crew- captain Val and naturalists Alex and Rebecca were so friendly, knowledgeable and respectful. I cannot commend them enough for their commitment to safety for us onboard and the majestic creatures we were privileged enough to observe. You know it was a great day when you hear the excitement in the captain’s voice :)

I will no doubt be a repeat guest with Prince of Whales! Thank you so much for a day I will never forget! Our visitors were in heaven!

Epic scenery and non stop action
Jul 2021 • Friends
Very cool! Telegraph Cove is an island treasure - it's wildlife on steroids. I have now gone whale watching twice in Telegraph Cove and both times have been super exciting with orcas, humpbacks (including a big breach), porpoises, and seals. However, the scenery alone makes the trip worthwhile. It's an awesome opportunity to see some super remote and beautiful areas of the Pacific Northwest.

Also, the naturalists on board the boat are extremely knowledgeable, interesting, and entertaining!

Thanks to PoW for a great trip!

Had an amazing whale watching adventure with Rebecca out of Telegraph Cove. I was particularly impressed with how knowledgeable she was about the wildlife in and around Johnstone Strait, and how committed she and our Captain (Val?) were to protecting these amazing animals.

We had an amazing experience! We saw humpback whales, Orcas and dolphins. The Orcas, 5 of them came towards us and then passed right by our boat! It was unbelievable and a sight we will never forget. Rebecca, our guide was so knowledgeable, energetic and an absolute delight! Andy, our deck hand was also wonderful and the sweet young lady that was our skipper really new how to maneuver the boat. Highly recommend the Prince of Whales team!!

Completely professional, thoroughly informative and emphatically enthusiastic. We saw porpoises, sea lions, humpback whales and the resident pod of orcas. Exceptional pilot work from Capt. Val and personable and knowledgeable guidance from First Mate Andy. A memorable experience!

An Epic day on the water!
Sep 2020
A bit late in writing this review but wanted to take the time to give props to Prince of Whales for an amazing half day Zodiac Tour we did with them out of Telegraph Cove in September. We had an afternoon tour with Captain Chris and it simply exceeded all of our expectations. We found our first Humpback almost immediately after leaving the harbour, and from then on it just flowed as we sailed from one whale to another working our way all the way across Queen Charlotte Strait over to the mainland, where we were greeted by a superpod of over 100 dolphins that joined our zodiac and frolicked alongside the RHIB for almost 20 mins. The grand finale was coming across a humpback surge feeding in a bay on the way back to the Cove. No Orcas this time out, but mother nature but on a great show nonetheless, and we felt safe and comfortable throughout on our trip, well spaced out due to COVID 19 sporting our mask bandanas throughout. A great day, grateful to the team at Prince of Whales for making it happen.

A Great Afternoon On The Water
Sep 2020
It was a nice sunny calm day, while at Telegraph Cove, we decided at the last minute to do this whale watching trip.
Health & safety were addressed first; both Covid-19 precautions & safety on the water. The boat was at half capacity, we were outside & everyone wore masks at all times.
Our naturalist, Sharon, explained how & where they look for whales.
Captain Chris, did a great job getting us to the whales & respecting a safe distance.
We saw lots of whales; both resident & transient orcas, more humpbacks than we could count, sea lions, dolphins, porpoises, and lots of different birds.
Sharon explained the difference between the 2 groups of orcas.
With the catalogue of whales, she was able to identify the orcas we were watching. and tell us about their family units.
She answered our questions & was as excited as we were at seeing all the wildlife.
It was both educational and wildly entertaining!
A wonderful experience.
