Our relatives invited us to join them celebrating their Golder Wedding Anniversary at Keswick and part of the weekend was a private ‘High Adventure’ tour of the northern Lake District by the Mountain Goat company. Driving around some of the highest (bendiest and twistiest) roads in Britain, our driver/guide: Duncan, gave us a brilliant day and shared lots and lots of fascinating facts about the route and area. An excellent day that’s also available as a public tour and is highly recommended.

What an excellent day out! We were collected at Keswick and then taken on a fascinating trip down the best lake district passes (Honister, Hardnott and Wrynose- passes we wouldn't have attempted on our own. We stopped off at the Honister Slate Mine for toilets and refreshments before travelling onto the Ravenglass steam railway and Muncaster Castle. We had an excellent driver/guide who told us lots of facts and answered all our questions- Highly recommended but beware the trip doesn't run during the winter months.

We started our day at930 am looking forward to an exciting time. Our driver Malcolm was very informative all day as we went over the high passes to breath taking views . We stopped for a quick lunch then boarded the steam train, we then stopped at muncaster castle watched a bird of prey display meandered through the gardens they back home through more passes a thoroughly great day . Will be using goat tours again thoroughly professional.

We spent a lovely day with Kevin our driver, who has rich knowledge of the district and kept us captivated by the unfolding history, pointing out places that were not easily noticed, and sharing lore and stories for every area we visited. Very high winds kept us off the highest passes today but the tour was modified by Kevin and included other delightful stops and a boat ride. We highly recommend Mountain Goat tours. There are never more than 16 people and the busses are small enough they can travel the smaller roads. There were plenty of stops and time for lunch. A great introduction to the Lake District and excellent value! We were picked up in Keswick for this tour.

This really was the most enjoyable day. Kevin the driver / guide was the perfect host. Informative with the right balance of humour to lighten the day. His skill at navigating the high passes was very impressive. They are not for the faint hearted and are a challenge in the car but he made it look easy.
This tour takes in some of the most stunning and remote parts of the lakes. Plenty of opportunity for photos too.
Even better was the opportunity to ride on the superb Laal Ratty steam train and to see the spectacular bird of prey show at Muncaster Castle - all included in the tour price.
Would recommend to friends...definitely!

Superb tour company that was recommended by our hotel host. Our driver, DEREK, was nothing short of fantastic. He was very personable in explaining things throughout the journey, offering personal insight and demonstrating precision driving that many wouldn't be able to manage. He was clear and concise to our fellow tourists in what time they needed to return enroute to our next stop. He's an asset to this business and you'd be fortunate if he was your guide. I think this tour exceeded our expectations and the views were extraordinary.

We did the High Adventure Tour and what a great day it was. I usually drive around these places but can miss a lot of the scenery, so this time we decided to take a tour. We met the mini bus at the central car park in Keswick which took us to the tours official start point at Windamere. This extra 25 mile journey only cost an extra fiver. Would have cost a lot more for petrol and parking. We also booked the packed lunch which was fine.our driver was a lovely chap, Tony ( Scott) I think, very knowledgeable and a very careful driver. He gave us plenty of photo stops and could answer all our questions. He knew all the best photo opportunities. After the high points we boarded the Ravenglass railway for a twenty minute ride and then reboarded the bus which was waiting. So off to Muncaster Castle, what a beautiful place. With seventy acres and the flying display we could have spent the day there. The cafe was very cheap compared to other similar ones and good quality food. We then stopped at Coniston although by then it was raining quite hard. All in all a brilliant day.

Our driver Tony was very informative and accommodating, and also had a wicked sense of humour. We were taken places that me as the main driver normally would not have enjoyed as much if I had driven, so many thanks for that Mountain Goat, we also saw things that we did not expect which was the falkanery display at Muncaster Castle and nice little train ride.

Is the price of £46 per person. Expensive, for a family of 4!
