Our tour guide Eva did a good job. Keeping us all informed about what to expect and what the day was going to include. We did find the Bamford village experience slightly disappointing, can’t really see the point in stopping there. Would have much rather had more time at Highclere Castle. Very disappointed to find we had to queue for half an hour before entering the castle. And to have only 2 hours there, no where near enough. Felt very pressurised during the time inside the Castle, way too many people, pushing and jostling. Had no time to see and take in the Castle experience. Not an experience I would want to repeat.

What a fantastic day! On a picture perfect day visit to Highclere Castle, this trip did not disappoint. The journey by coach was smooth and easy. Stewart was a great witty guide who pointed out things along the way and was very knowledgeable about Highclere and the Downton Abbey show. He showed the different filming locations and how the production used the Castle to bring the story to life. We explored the house and grounds and had time for drinks, just relaxing and taking it all in. It was an intimate small group and much fun,

Our Downton Abbey tour was a highlight of our trip. As an avid fan I can truly say this was worth every penny. We felt like we stepped right into the Downton world. Highclere Castle is stunning and the grounds immense and beautiful. Our tour guide, Stuart was informative and knew his history well. He kept us informed about what would happen during the day. We had plenty of time to tour the castle and enjoy the grounds. It was a great day!!

My wife is a huge Downton Abbey fan so we built a London/Edinburgh trip around this tour of Downton Abbey. A small group of 13 travelers met at a central location and we got underway. We were in a roomy and luxurious van and led by our guide Jan.
He established himself quickly as fan of the show and his personality and insights made it a memorable experience for us and everyone else judging by their reactions.
Jan showed started with videos and comments about the first season as we drove to our first stop in the village of Brampton that was used to film village scenes for the show. He took us to various filming sites and included commentary about them as well as encouraging and answering a multitude of questions. We had time to look around the village before reboarding and heading to Highclere Castle.
Again this trip was a combination of Downton Abbey episodes and Jan's insights.
e got to the Castle and Jam got our passes. He suggested that we take some time to get some lunch at one of the vendors on site before entering the castle. My wife felt our time was unhurried and she thoroughly explored Highclere. Jan made himself available for a variety of questions and again his enthusiasm added to the experience. The trip back to London included more video but enhanced by the experience of having seen so many of these filming sights and additional commentary by Jan.
By necessity , a lot of time is spent driving to places but the talents of Jan makes it worthwhile time.
My wife hasn't stopped talking about the trip and I would recommend making it a part of any 2019 travel plans when the new visiting season is announced.

This is great for Downton Abbey nerds out there! Pick up in the morning was prompt and being on a small group tour of about 14 ppl was nice and intimate. The host, Dewi (or David), was really nice and knowledgeable about the show and shared some behind the scene gossip about the cast. First we went to Bampton Village where they filmed a lot of scenes from Downtown Village. Dewi guided us around and then we got to walk around for 15 minutes on our own. Then we went to Highclere Castle- it was amazing to see this building in person. We were given 3 hours to roam around- Dewi gave us a short guide then we were set free. There are a few cafes onsite to have lunch (nothing too fancy, just sandwiches, salads, etc.), coffee and tea. You can check out the gardens, sit on the bench where Lady Mary gets her reading in, walk around the fields where they filmed the hunting scenes, or take in the gorgeous views of the hills surrounding the castle. The self-guided tour of inside the manor was also fun but a lot of places were blocked off. Note- everything looks larger on TV. Yes, this is a huge English manor, but there is no "bachelors quarters" that are miles away from Lady Mary's bedroom. All bedrooms are much closer together than they appear. Also, heads up, there is no Lady Mary's bedroom- that's filmed in a set location somewhere else.

This was a really nice treat for me and my husband who are fans of the show and also celebrating our anniversary. It was also a nice break from the city hustle and bustle of London to get out and enjoy the English countryside for a day.

The castle and gardens definitely worth a visit. We were a group of 15. This was the first time the driver had done this run and he drove far too fast. On a couple of the country roads where there were ruts and pot holes he drove so fast that a number of times we were thrown up in the air and shot forward. If we had not had seat belts there could have been some nasty accidents. On the way back through London he hit a number of kerbs as he drove round corners. The tour guide did not give my friend and I instructions where to meet the group again after we made a toilet stop which meant we had to wander round the village alone for an hour asking locals where the places were we wanted

Sadly, we remember neither the driver's nor the tour guide's names, but the driver did his work competently, and our tour guide kept the lengthy drive to and from Highclere lively. We watched scenes from Downton Abbey, she told us some history of Highclere castle, dished lots of trivia about the show, and challenged us against each other with a Downton Abbey quiz. Of course, spending time outside and inside the castle inspires awe, and we enjoyed connecting with fellow Downton Abbey fans.

I researched the various tours to Highclere Castle from London and I am very glad I chose this one. It was very well organized and our tour guide, Catherine, was fantastic. Very friendly and enthusiastic and had lots of good Downton tid bits. I liked our smaller group (15) and although at first I thought that watching TV on the bus was kind of silly, it really was fun to see the locations on film before and after seeing them in real life. We also did a fun Downton Abbey trivia quiz on the bus. I know that the castle is the main attraction, but I really enjoyed Bampton village, aka Downton village. A beautiful country town. Highclere is crowded with tourists, but not nearly as bad as I expected. And astonishingly, except for the personal photos of the family who lives there, the castle looks exactly as it does on the show. The only negative is that we stayed at Highclere castle for 3 hours, which for me was a bit too long. So the day just ended up being longer than it needed to be, in my opinion, but we were still back to London around 6pm.

We took this tour today with Elise and Ray. I’m the avid fan, my husband the loving supporter! I was completely enthralled with the town of Bampton and Highclere. Suffice it to say as I was walking theu the village and the castle, I was literally reliving scenes. Things people
Said and did. Etc. my husband, however, seeing it for the first time was also enthralled In the history and magic of the era, setting, costumes etc. I think I
May now make a Downton believer out of him at last! Our guide, Elise, was perfect! She knew when to talk
And when not, gave the right amount
Of information at the right time! Ray was a great driver and super friendly !
I would do this again in a heartbeat. So no worries if some in your party are not familiar, they will still appreciate the beauty and splendor of the castle and the lives of those who
Love there currently and in the fictional story! Btw purchase Downton gifts in Bampton all gifts from Highclere are only Highclere not Downton! Enjoy!!!
