The Hairy Coo experience felt more like a road trip with friends than a guided tour. Brian, our Hairy Coo host, shares everything he knows about Scottish history and folklore bringing all the sights to life. His stories are very funny, engaging and emotional. We got very quiet, out of respect, looking at a pile of rocks on the side of the road that most people would drive by because Brian shared the significance of it. The context to the sights are explained on the bus journey there. Once you reach the site, you’re on your own to explore. In some sights, Brian would enhance the experience by showing you how to do things the traditional way. You can use a GPS to drive yourself to the sights but you don’t have Brian to give you the full appreciation of what you’re seeing.

Brian is accommodating, within reason, if you want to go off the trail or swim in the Loch, just ask him. Most of the sites on the trip are outdoors so they are not affected by lockdown. You’ll be missing Doune Castle and the Distillery as they are closed. But you’ll have more time with the outdoor sites. Each day starts at 7:30am and ends at 6pm. The last day starts at 9am. It’s very well planned with sufficient stops for coffee and bathroom breaks. The bathrooms are clean. Brian keeps you entertained during the entire journey. You are never bored.

The company observed social distancing. We had 8 passengers in a 30 capacity orange bus. There were facemasks available. My wife and I felt very safe. The bus is sanitised every day.

This 3 day tour hits the Highland highlights. This tour sets off from Edinburgh, which is convenient for Londoners and Edinburghers. We took the LNER fast train from London (4.5 hours). Setting off from Inverness makes the tour more affordable because accommodation is 50% cheaper and more available than Portree. HairyCoo can book accommodation at Inverness for you, the advantage is Brian will pick you up at the front door versus making your own way to the meeting point.

Hairy Coo and John are the bomb! I took my teenage sons for a two-week trip to Scotland and they both agreed this was by far the highlight. I was never into the idea of taking a tour however the intimidating reality of driving through an area I was unfamiliar with and the fact that Hairy Coo pricing was reasonable convinced me. It was so worth the investment! Hairy Coo took all the stress off me so we could just sit back and enjoy all the highlights John, our tour guide, brought to us. He not only cultivated an environment of welcomeness, safety and comfort but he was well-informed and hysterical. I haven't laughed this much...ever! Not to mention have I ever learned so much history. Since he told it in story form the information was incredibly engaging; he made history fun! John kept a clean bus, attended to the smallest details to make the trip feel special and brought out every highlight Scotland had to offer. He nailed it and if every tour bus trip throughout Europe were like this I would be sold on one for all future travels. If you're interested in taking a tour bus trip, or even if you are not, take this one!! I've recommended to all my friends and family because it's perfect for every single age group. This take on touring brings out the very best in travel and has made me a believer. They clearly love what they do. Hairy Coo, expand throughout Europe!!

This tour not only lets you see the highlights of Scotland but provides a one-of-a-kind experience. The scenery was breathtaking, the bus was comfortable, and we had the chance to listen to a perfect balance of great music and stories about Scottish history and myths without a single dull moment. Despite the tight schedule, we always had time to explore a bit on our own, and to taste great meals and drinks.

Still, the heart and soul of the tour was our gorgeous tour guide, Brian. He is a perfectly skilled driver and storyteller with a fantastic taste in music, contagious enthusiasm, and an extremely attentive, energetic and warm personality.

Even if you only spend a few days in Scotland, I would definitely recommend booking a tour at The Hairy Coo to experience the quintessence of Scotland!

First, the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye are among the most rugged and beautiful scenery that we have experienced. Second, our tour guide Brian took it to a even higher level over these 3 days.

Brian was enthusiastic and so knowledgeable about the area. He was caring and entertaining making sure everyone was engaged. Brian blended stories and music to give everyone a real identification with Scotland. His native Scottish brogue and wearing his kilt made it really special.

Everything ran very smoothly and we got to see so much! You do have to arrange your own accommodations in Inverness, but Hairy Coo offers many suggestions. We stayed at Adrian’s Guest House which was superb.

You are on your own for dinner in Inverness so I would highly recommend reservations as the restaurants stop serving food early and cannot accommodate a lot of people. I am sure this was because of staffing issues.

We were so pleased with the quality of this tour and would highly recommend a Hairy Coo Tour to anyone, and walk 500 miles with Brian!

Rose the Perfect Guide!

Although there is nothing perfect in this mortal world, Rose is an exception. She is a textbook example of how a guide should be; she was kind, considerate, and upbeat. I am astonished by her storytelling skills; she made it so enjoyable that I am sure nobody on the bus dozed off even for a minute.

The tour was one of the few experiences I would remember for a long, long time; it was a perfect blend of sightseeing, history, cultural stories, and fun! If you are visiting Scotland for the first time, I would highly recommend doing this three-day tour to experience the highlands and Isle of Sky.

We chose the 3 day Highland tour hosted by The Hairy Coo tour company. Our Tour Guide and Driver, Rose, was outstanding in her knowledge and her enthusiasm of her country's heritage. Her stories and narratives of Scotland brought the visuals and scenery to a new level. Her pre-planning and attention to details, such as signing the entire tour group up for a whiskey festival, that not only included wonderful free tastes of whiskey, live bagpipers, and out of this world food during our visit through Cuillin in the Isle of Skye was above and beyond what we expected.
You should be very proud to have her as a employee.

Just spent an incredible 3 days led by our fantastic driver/tour guide/entertainer Brian. His passion and knowledge for Scottish history, music and master story-telling ability made this tour extraordinary. I would very highly recommend this tour for friends, couples, singles and families with older children (teens). Our tour was a mix of all and we left with wonderful shared memories and some new playlists as well. Thanks Harry Coo and Brian!

3 Day Isle of Skye Tour with Hairy Coo Tours is A definite must! I have always been against bus tours because of the hours spent traveling, however, “The TRUE king of the north and a true Scotsman”, John our tour guide and driver, did a phenomenal job of making the most of the tour. Not only was he hilarious, his story telling really kept everyone interested and truly entertained. He was very professional, very knowledgeable and had a great way of making us feel safe and welcomed to this beautiful country. An enormous thank you and hats off to you John! And as he said we would, our hearts are empty missing the story telling. I definitely will be back!

I was on the three day tour with jim, he was very nice, but in my opinion not interesting enough. I felt like i was only getting a history lesson, and for me that is just a part of it, and not the whole thing.
The first day was so crammed with locations, i felt like i was on a covayor belt, where we go from place to place to only take a picture, but not feel and expirience the spot. Too many spots for too little time. Not editted enough in my taste. We didnt have anywhere to grab a nomal lunch. Only cold snacks to buy in supermarkets.
On the second day, our bus had a problom, and we were stuck in portree for 8 hours!!!
They kept telling us a bus is comeing, but the time just got later and later. If they would tell us about the delay, we might have taken the last 17.45 bus to inverness.
Eventually the bus arrived at 20.30, and we got to inverness around midnight. We hardly saw isle of sky, which was the place we all wanted to see the most.
We missed our dinner reservations, and the chance to see inverness a bit too.
No one emailed any of us that day, no one made us feel we were taken care of. When i called them, fairly mad, they hung up on me.
The worst customer service i ever came across.
They gave us a refund for 35% of the trip, but we all went home with really bad memories, and especially annoyed that i paid so much money, and didnt get to see what i wanted.

Amazing. Marty was the absolute best guide. We had a small group so he took us to a lot of extra spots that weren’t on the itinerary. Very knowledgeable and had great food recommendations. He really read our group and was great with telling stories and giving information about the landscapes we passed through. We had all the luck with blue skies and clear views. So happy my friends and I took this tour!
