JK Rowling's Edinburgh, a 3-Hour Walking Tour Inspired by Harry Potter
From US$19.56
Overview

Learn about J.K. Rowling and the origins of the Harry Potter books during a 2.5-hour walking tour of Edinburgh. See places that inspired Rowling such as the Balmoral Hotel and University of Edinburgh's Old College; locales that shaped the Dementors and Ministry of Magic; and cafes where Rowling liked to write. Your guide is a Harry Potter fan who shares fascinating details about the wizarding world in Edinburgh.

What to Expect
The tour opens at the close, with JK Rowling finishing up the Deathly Hallows in the Balmoral Hotel and get sorted into houses.

We'll bridge what was the old North Lake beneath the castle, and above the far shore we'll chat about how JK Rowling got the inspiration for Harry Potter, and our first love story
At Edinburgh Universities Old College we'll unwrap JK Rowling's times at university.
We'll discover Nicholsons, and the Elephant house where Rowling loved to write the books, and learn about the origin of Dementors, and the Potter pilgrim traditions.
At Surgeon's Hall we'll see how Rowling's mother's death haunts the books giving them depth.
We may pop inside the Museum of Scotland to see Ron's chess set and talk about Rowling's battle with her editors and see what the sorting hat began as.
We'll enter Greyfriars Kirkyard and see how Rowling was inspired.  And endure the knock backs as Rowling digs down and fights for success in a cynical industry.
I'll point at the bridge where Eddie Redmayne - Fantastic Beast's Newt Scamander, cut his teeth acting, and talk about his Harry Potter rejections.
Scottish ice cream, if you haven't had it, it's the best in Scotland.  I've got a discount.  We have whisky ripple, it's more Scottish than the Castle.
If we're not mown down by the back to school crowds on Diagon Alley, we could be ignited by the Gringotts Dragon.  Wear fire retardant clothes.
We'll enter Riddle's Court, learn about Rowling's second love.

Mackars, or writer's Court, we'll learn how the books took off, taking the story from the UK to the US and then the world.
We'll meet the Royal Mile's dragons.
At the heart of Midlothian we'll show solidarity with Harry.

If the group is small and keen we may go inside Old Parliament Hall, to learn about the formation of the Ministry of Magic and how Rowling wove the timeline into Scottish history.

The grand finale, outside City Chambers, we'll celebrate who JK Rowling is, learn her advice to herself, and dependent on Honey Dukes breeding program, chocolate frogs shall be served.

LOL, this is a great summary thanks David. Yes port-keys, they mess with your stomach - I have to separate jumps by 3 hours, or I arrive covered in funny coloured liquid. It's quite smelly. x Sam.

Yes I do talk too fast. It's something I need to work on, simplifying the stories, so I don't feel the need to speed through everything to keep on track. Thanks for taking the time to review. Happy travels x Sam.
