Highlights
  • See Dublin’s highlights with ease during this informative walking tour
  • Learn more than you could alone about the city’s history
  • Stop by Dublin highlights like Temple Bar, O’Connell Street, and more
  • Benefit from insider tips, discounts, and a free Dublin map
What to expect
  • Meet your friendly, local guide on O’Connell Street in central Dublin. Learn how the road is one of Europe’s widest streets, and set off to explore the city center while learning about Dublin’s eventful history and laid-back culture. Stroll along O’Connell Street and see the General Post Office, a place regarded as hugely symbolic by the Irish. Admire the grand façade, and learn how Irish rebels occupied the building during the Easter Rising of April 1916, an event that ultimately led to an independent Ireland.
Next, follow your guide through the bustling Henry Street shopping district to the 18th-century St Mary’s Church. Head inside to admire some of the striking features, including a beautiful stained glass window and Renatus Harris-built organ that towers over the bar.
Continue into Dublin’s Italian Quarter, a vibrant area of shops and restaurants situated on the north banks of the Liffey River and also known as Quarter Bloom. As you stroll here, admire the views of the Liffey, and hear how the river has served as a trading lifeline of Dublin from Viking days. Head on to Temple Bar, the city’s designated ‘cultural quarter’ and trace the narrow cobbled streets, still laid out in a pattern unchanged from medieval times. Then, stroll to Dublin City Hall, a magnificent example of the stately Georgian architecture that Dublin is renowned for. Walk from here to view 800-year-old Dublin Castle, and the former Irish Houses of Parliament, the world’s first purpose-built parliament house.

Finally, arrive at Trinity College, the college that makes up Ireland’s oldest university. Founded in 1592, this famous place of learning was one of seven established just before the Tudor monarchy extended its authority over Ireland as a whole. View the historical buildings, many set around cobbled quadrangles, and finish your tour here when you bid goodbye to your guide. Your tour ticket also entitles you to valuable discounts at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre, The Church—the bar and restaurant set in St Mary’s Church—and Bewley’s Café. Be sure to take advantage of these deals during the rest of your time in the city!

Wherever Pat Liddy gets his tour guides from, you’d imagine it must be from the high end of the market - David Wright took my wife, my doubtful 15 year old son and me on a tour of Dublin that may or may not have lasted over two hours - we were having such a good time that however long it was, it wasn’t long enough.

David is a gentleman through and through and even the sceptical 15 year old loved every minute of it, We learned about literature, politics, geography, history and more. Visiting Sweney’s pharmacy and getting serenaded as gaeilge by the inimitable PJ was a highlight.

All in all, a real treat. I’d recommend David as a most excellent host, and Dublin as a city that’s worthy of him!

Great insights, great value for money

Our guide Aine was not just great company, she is superbly well qualified for guiding, especially regarding Ireland and Dublin's long and fascinating history. Although not the longest of walks, it covered the essentials of the city centre - and I would recommend continuing from Trinity College to the magnificent south Dublin Squares - Merrion and St Stephen's Green.

Excellent small group with a local - very good
Jan 2020
Arrived on a possible rainy day in Dublin , booked Pat Liddy's tour.
After meeting Pat Liddy, we were introduced to our guide, another Pat.
He was easy to listen to, flexible in answering questions and really giving us a different tour.
Pat related many of the stories to his own lifetime, which was excellent. 2-3 hours of easy walking went by very fast.
I would highly recommend this tour as apposed to the others who seemed to be overcrowded and not as personal.

Interesting...
Nov 2019 • Business
The tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and energetic. Her voice was a bit soft, though, so it could be hard to hear her. She did have a habit of stopping us in spots that were less crowded or less windy (it was a very chilly and windy day) to deliver explanations. I appreciated this at first, but soon realized that we spent more time looking at, for example, a shopping center foyer near the escalator, than the historical or interesting thing she was describing that we would be walking past *next* (plaque commemorating James Joyce's failed foreign film theatre). We also stood in a random doorway around the corner from something interesting. But, overall, I did see more of Dublin and learned more about it than I would have on my own. So, there's that.

Apologies as I had thought that I had already responded to these comments. I was talking to the guide and she felt that on account of the weather she would seek the indoors for longer than is usual on our tours. She also opicked a couple of doorways in department stores but this may have been a little unwise as these spots were out of view of the item being discussed. I guess she has taken this as a reminder that you forge on with the normal tour regardless of the weather (except in exceptional cirmcumstances because that is what the client has signed up for. I was surprised her voice was soft as she was once a teacher but maybe the cold got to her as well. But thank you for your comments as they were most useful. Kind regards. Pat Liddy

What a fantastic way to see the city of Dublin, I had a group of 80 visitors from all over the globe most of whom were in Dublin for first time, they loved this extensive tour of the city centre, a perfect way to take a break from a conference and work up an appetite for lunch.

Great way to see the heart of Dublin

Nice casual walking tour of the center of Dublin. Doesn't go into Dublin castle or other venues but gets you oriented for your stay in Dublin. Great stories about the history of Dublin. Worth the time and money for sure.

Thank you for the review. I presuem you did visit the courtyards of Dublin Castle but, you are correct, we don't do internal tours where there is an admission fee and where such a visit might take up to an hour in itself. But I'm delighted you nevertheless enjoyed the tour. Kind regards. Pat Liddy
