What a fun experience! Traveling with my kids and my mom, I opted for a train based tour as a break from the kids previous experiences packed into cars or planes and it did not disappoint!

One of the things that I experienced in my childhood was the great network of rail in Europe (and Japan) and how easy it is to move about the countries.

After a brief miscalculation of the schedules for the light rail to get us to the train station, we met the many railbooker’s guides at the station in their very visible coats and they helped usher us to our group with minutes to spare!

Then we made our way to Cork and had a lovely tour of the town with interesting bits of history from our guide Terrence and our lovely driver Kevin. We had plenty of time at Blarney castle and Terrence was able to bring our attention to many of the ancient fortresses dotted along the country side but also a wealth of information on several other topics which makes perfect sense as I later learned he was a teacher in his early years.

The entire affair was worry free as our “shepherd” was able to keep things rolling and even when thrown a curve ball of the train line being under repair on our way back to Dublin, handled it with aplomb and made sure to keep the group informed and was ever helpful to ensure we all got back and enjoyed our trip.

Convenient and well-planned, this trip was perfect. I enjoyed the grounds at Blarney Castle the most. I took a beautiful walk along the less touristy edge of the property where I found many locals taking walks alone or with friends or young children. After Blarney we got to see a unique pit-stop that isn't on every tour, perhaps because our group was so small at only three people, of a Cobh cemetery. The cathedral of Cobh was truly spectacular, I was more impressed by this cathedral than any other I've seen in Europe. We only drove through Cork and I thought this would be disappointing but honestly all of the other stops are much more interesting coming from Dublin and having already experienced a city of a similar size.

Blarney castle was really great, the grounds are magnificent. The train ride there is very comfortable and Terrance did a great job at informing us the whole way on what to expect. Only thing wish would have been better was having more time in Cobh to see some more of the town and more time at the heritage exhibit. Other then that it was great.

Blarney Castle was good, but the “tour” of Cork was all on the bus with no time to walk around as expected. Most importantly we were supposed to be back in Dublin by 8pm and didn’t arrive until after 9:30, when food service ends. And we almost missed our train back after waiting over an hour in the Cork Station (which offers almost nothing) because our replacement guide didn’t understand the train schedule. Finally we didn’t have reservations on the return train so we had to scramble for seats. Our first guide Brian did a good job sharing the history and we wished he would have been there to get us back to Dublin stress free.

Peter was our tour guide and was delightful and very informative. The Blarney Castle was extremely interesting. If you plan on going to the top and kissing the Blarney Stone, it is a steep, narrow and cramped spiral stone staircase, but worth it for the experience. Cork and Cobh were great for history buffs. Because of Covid, at least for the time being there is no food/beverage service on the train, so check before you go to see if you need to take coffee, water or snacks on with you. Would highly recommend this tour.

I could have spent most of the day at Blarney castle. The grounds are amazing. The trails that were around the grounds needed more exploring. All that being said it was a bit disappointing. I thought that I understood a stop in Cork not a bus tour around the city. Truthfully the reason I wanted to go on this tour.
The tram situation was as described by another passenger. We were supposed to have seat reservations and that didn't happen. The scramble for seats was distressing. Cork station also not to much to offer and a long wait for our train. The tour went longer because of the wait and by the time we got back to Dublin it was dark and not a great time to make the 30 -40 minutes walk back to my hotel alone which I had planned so I didn't have to take/pay a taxi. The tour guide was good and informative

I really enjoyed this tour! I did a couple others while in Ireland and this was my favorite!! It was with a smaller tour group that we had lots of opportunities to explore with on a fun train ride and bus. The Blarney Castle grounds were BEAUTIFUL, the Castle was interesting, and the stone was 🥴. I loved the small towns we stopped in. The tour guide (Harry??) was so knowledgeable.
This is also the time to get Aran sweaters! We passed by a beautiful shop that has so many options.
Definitely would recommend this tour!!!! ❤️

We always enjoy taking the train in Europe and this was no exception. Blarney Castle was extremely enjoyable, and the quaint shops nearby made for a productive trip. The only drawback was that the rail company (not the tour company) still offers no food or drink service on board because of Covid restrictions. If we had known in advance we would have taken some snacks and drinks, but it was not a big problem. Our guide Peter was very easygoing and quite informed about all of the sights. I would definitely recommend this rail tour.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us facts about everything in the tour. The tour ran smoothly and enjoyed going to Cobh. The company also gave me a refund for me accidentally booking twice. I would recommend this to anyone!

I had an excellent time riding the rails with Brian (and later, Sean) as we traveled to-and-from Dublin through Cork, Blarney, and Cobh. The history shared with us by Brian was both fun and interesting, and the conversation with Sean on the way back to Dublin was quite enjoyable as we learned about the countryside and some of his travels. Kissing the Blarney Stone was quite an experience (not for the faint of heart!) and I am very glad to have gone on this trip - I will certainly be booking it again when I bring my wife with me to Ireland.
