Game of Thrones Boat Tour at the Battle of the Boyne
US$23.44
Overview
A combination of history, legend, and nature keep everyone happy on this tour of the Boyne Valley on a traditional Irish currach boat. Set sail down one of Ireland’s most important rivers on boats that were used in the filming of Game of Thrones as your guide enthralls you with tales from the movie industry and Irish lore alike.
What to Expect
Meeting at the Sealock opposite the Lock Keeper's house you will be briefed on the type of boat you will be travelling in and the relevant safety procedures and equipment. All participants will be required to wear a lifejacket as per Department of Marine code of practice for: the safe operation of recreational craft.
Once briefed there is a basic paddling technique demo and you are good to go. Under the guidance of your helm you set off upstream towards the Battle of the Boyne. As you practice the same techniques as used by the Iron islanders in Game of Thrones you will become one with your vessel and crew. Along the way you will hear stories of the combatants during the 1690 Battle of the Boyne and how the battle was won and lost. Find your place in history as you travel alongside the river Boyne and imagine the ancestors to the currach you travel in bringing the building blocks for Newgrange, Dowth and Knowth to their final resting point over 5,000 years. Passing the Obilisk bridge you will hear of the ill-fated monument to the battle of the boyne. Continue on upstream and join in a singsong or reflect on the peace and tranquility that only a boat trip can offer. The turning point for return is close to the place were King William III nearly lost the battle before it even started. Hear how his narrow escape on the eve of the battle could have changed history forever.

This tour is independently operated by Boyne Boats. It is not sponsored, endorsed, or affiliated with HBO or anyone else associated with 'Game of Thrones'.
