Stop: 90 minutes - Admission included
In 1860, a contest was launched for the construction of a new opera house in Paris. It was young architect Charles Garnier's project that was unanimously adopted for its exuberant mix of ostentatious and eclectic baroque architecture. 73 sculptors and 14 painters worked on it until its inauguration in January 1875. Measuring 172m in length and 124m in breadth, the Opera Garnier is the largest opera house in Europe, with the capacity to welcome more than 2 000 people.

Beautiful Building, Incomplete Tour
On the plus side, the opera house is a beautiful building and definitely worth seeing. Many of the rooms are absolutely breathtaking. Unfortunately, the tour was not great. Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable, but we could only hear half of what he said. Please consider using headsets if you are going to have such large groups. Most frustrating was the fact that we never got to go into the auditorium, if you can believe that! There was a ballet rehearsal running late and they would not let us in the most important room! Instead we were allowed “sneak peeks” from a box for 30 second turns. They acted very sneaky about it too, telling us we would see it, then quickly rushing us out the door through security without telling us that was the end and that, actually, we WOULDN’T be visiting the auditorium. Let’s just say it was not handled professionally.

Dear visitor, We are truly sorry that you didn’t enjoy your tour. You are disappointed because the theater wasn’t open. The thing is that this information is written all over our documents and website. The Opéra is a really busy place, with a lot of workers, shows and artists. These persons will always be the priority at the Opéra. We really hope that your next guided tour with Cultival will be perfect for you. With kind regards, Cultival team.

Group was too large for one guide in this building
Sep 2019
The Opera Garnier is beautiful, but the logisitics are confusing. The after-hours tour allows you to avoid the crowds, but it starts after the guards lock the doors, so you need to arrive early and wait inside for Cultival to get around to checking you in. We got to sit in the Phantom's box, which is cool, but there is a big focus on the Phantom story. There was one guide for 28 customers, and her voice simply could not carry well enough for a big group like that, in the midst of other groups. At the end, our guide said the tour was over and we were led into the gift shop, but the shop employees had convulsions because the shop was actually closed.

Dear visitor, We are sorry for the organization but there is always a bit of people and so waiting when you visit such a prestigious opera. We can accommodate up to 30 people maximum in our groups. The shop at 18:30 is actually closed. We hope your next visit will be more enjoyable. Have a nice day Regards Cultival Team

VERY difficult to hear or understand the guide. Way too much focus on Phantom instead of the magnificent building architecture and history. Of the 4-5 tours we booked in Paris, this was the most disappointing. ☹️

Dear Deborah, We are sorry for your visit but it is normal that the guide speaks a lot of the Phantom of the opera because it is the offer of this visit. If you wanted a general tour of the opera, you had to book Opera Garnier Day tour. Have a nice day Regards Cultival Team

So unhelpful. Go straight to Opera Garnier and don’t waste your time and money with this company
May 2019 • Solo
This company lists a non-operational phone number. Our flight was delayed by 4 hours and we were not able to take the tour. We tried calling cultival and the phone number is non-operational. When our emails were finally returned, the company offered no help. We were denied a refund (not unexpected). We hoped that they might offer a voucher to visit the opera Garnier unaccompanied (a 14.00 € price much lower than the tour price). The answer was no. They said we could reschedule within a year-that’s helpful as a visitor to Paris. Very inflexible and completely unhelpful-not at all surprising to us after spending a week in Paris where the standard response is always “No”. Do not use this company. Go straight to Opera ticket desk. We spoke to a young man who gave us tickets to visit with no questions asked when we explained situation.

stunning building
Feb 2019 • Friends
the tour of the opera house "post" public access creates a very personal and intimate atmosphere - the history of the building and how it operates is fascinating the opportunity to sit in the main body of the auditorium is breath taking - now we need to see a production for real the only minor critique is that the initial reception and allocation of tour leader/groups was unnecessarily very slack and disorganised. most visitors seemed unaware of what, who and where to go. it is very simple to organise and just tell the visitors to stand by the A/B or C signs as per their tickets other than that our guide Philip was very knowledgable and enthusiastic many thanks

Excellent Tour with a Superb Guide
Oct 2018 • Couples
Our guided tour of the Palais Garnier with Rita De Cloe on Saturday, October 13, 2018, was superb. The majestic opera house came alive for us as Ms De Cloe skillfully described the building, its history, its splendid decorations, the people who frequented the opera house, their costumes and manners, and much more. Ms De Cloe was professional, knowledgeable, engaging, entertaining, patient and courteous. Our enjoyment of this excellent tour was greatly enhanced thanks to the 90 minutes we spent with Ms. De Cloe. LTT - San Francisco

Very nice tour after hours of Opera Garnier

A very nice tour of Opera Garnier, after hours. Very enthusiastic, and funny guide took us around, without the usual horde of tourists during the normal hours. More or less following the history of the Phantom of the Opera.

Opera fan or not, not to be missed. Majestic, stunning. your mind races with the grandeur and look of the place. The architecture and features are all on a par with any Paris museum tour. The after hours feature is key since the crowds swell here. Still, worth any wait, and every penny.

Disappointing Tour and Rude Guide
Apr 2018 • Friends
The tour was a serious disappointment. The tour was of a very limited portion of the building, and the guide spent most of the time reprimanding people on the tour, for all sorts of infractions. She had few facts about the building, and spent most of the time acting out the story of the opera The Phantom of the Opera. Seeing the model of the building at the Musee de Orsay was far more informative. The real turn off was how rude the guide was to people in our group.

Dear Costumer, You have booked an after hour tour of the Opera, as you can see in the descriptive of this visit, the tour is about the story of Gaston Leroux, the Phantom of the Opera, and not about the architecture. However we are very sorry to hear that the tour was not as you expected and we will see the guide to speak about what happened. Have a nice day Regards Cultival Team
