What to expect
Munich is a city of great beauty and splendour, known as much for beautiful churches and Lederhosen as for the Oktoberfest. There was a time however, that Munich was known for other, less wholesome reasons. The period following the Great War of 1914-18 was very traumatic for Germany and Munich was no exception. In a time of great social and economic unrest, Munich became a hot-bed of political extremism and for a short time, a Soviet Republic. Out of this chaotic period the Nazi Party emerged, under the leadership of an Austrian by the name of Adolf Hitler. Munich was christened by the Nazis as “Hauptstadt der Bewegung” or “Capital of the Movement”. The beautiful city on the river Isar became the heart, the spiritual home of a movement that would plunge Europe into another world war and lead to the deaths of millions. Hopefully, by learning about this dark period in human history we can, perhaps in our own little way try to ensure that such a calamity never happens again. On this tour you will see and learn about: The Great War and the Treaty of Versailles The origins of the Nazi Party The birthplace of the SS The infamous “Beer Hall Putsch” “Crystal Night” and the origins of the Holocaust The Nazi Party Headquarters and the signing of “The Munich Pact” The Allied bombing campaign How the city fell to US forces in 1945 And much more besides

Most do this!
We have learned that sometimes we miss out on information when do self guided or audio tours. You’ll probably never go to these places again. So make it worth it!!
Taff corresponded with us for a few months before our arrival and tailored the trip to our needs.
Once we got to Munich, he met us at our hotel. He had pictures and actual objects to enhance our experience.
We walked around town and then trained to Dachau. His knowledge and passion impressed!
You won’t regret it.

Fantastic tour to take with friends
Oct 2019
Everyone in my group had nothing but good things to say. When your in a city as old as Munich, you owe it to yourself to take this tour. The tour was interactive and included beer. Taff was a fantastic guide. He was knowledgeable, incredibly engaging and flexible with tour logistics. He even joined us at Oktoberfest after the tour. A year later, and we still talk about the tour. We took the tour in September but trip advisor won't let me set it back that far.

Brilliant tour
Aug 2019
My husband arranged a private walking tour with Taff as my birthday surprise. It was the best present ever. Taff was informative, fun and friendly. I already knew a fair bit of the history, but Taff was such a wealth of information and took us to innocuous-looking places you'd ordinarily walk straight past and reveal their hidden history. Visiting the university and seeing the memorial to the White Rose movement was particularly touching. I would definitely recommend one of Taff's tours.

Hi, it was a pleasure showing you both around Munich and seeing these important sites. Sampling a beer our two along the way was a bonus :-) Best, Taff

Very Worthwhile Tour!
Jul 2019
My 3 teenaged sons and myself went on a private walking tour with Taff to learn about the Third Reich and WW2 and the connection to Munich. My boys loved it. They already know quite a bit about the Nazi regime and WW2 so Taff intrigued them with more details of historical significance. He is very knowledgeable and enhanced the discussion by sharing artifacts and photos along the way. It was a very interesting and worthwhile tour. Taff is also very easy to communicate with and was very flexible with the timing of our tour. Thanks Taff for a great afternoon!

Incredible and Informative Experience
Jul 2019 • Family
My mom and I recently visited Germany and Poland to "bear witness" to the victims of the Holocaust after I took a Holocaust course two years ago as part of my 10th grade year. I felt that it was important to see the places where these tragedies took place so that we do not forget and repeat history. Doing the Rise of Evil Tour with Joann was the perfect way to start off our trip! She was our first tour guide we had on our trip, and we absolutely adored her. She was British, which was very nice because we felt that we were truly getting an honest retelling of the history without any bias.

Joann took us all around Munich from 9:15 am to 1:45 pm, and we saw many sites that we never would have known were significant without a guide (i.e. a store that now sells Apple products is where Hitler first gave a speech that impressed a member of the Nazi party, who recruited him to be their leader). It felt surreal to be standing in the very places where so many historical events had taken place, and Joann made it feel even more authentic by showing us photographs and artifacts from the time period.

We really enjoyed our time with Joann and learned SO much from her (so much that I immediately went through our photos and captioned them all so I wouldn't forget anything I'd learned). It was the perfect way to start our trip--in Munich learning about how all the evil began before ending our trip in Krakow at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Incredibly chilling but necessary history to learn. I've already recommended Dark History Tours to a friend!

Great Tour and Great Guide
Jun 2019 • Family
I took my son on a WW2 themed trip in Europe as a graduation gift and based the great reviews, I arranged for a tour with Taff and Dark History Tours. It was definitely the right move. Taff met us at our hotel right on time and explained how the day was going to proceed. We immediately set out on the walking tour and it was clear that he was not only knowledgeable, but was going to really make this more than just us walking around listening to him. He had a number of backpacks with him that were full of things such as books, pictures and even examples of various artifacts. He kept thing very interesting and was even able to give us some insight into older Germany history. I would highly recommend touring with Dark History Tours.

Third Reich History Walk

A thoroughly professional and engaging walk conducted by Aileen, highly educational, well done. If you are interested in understanding the rise of National Socialism and how and where it all got started then you will not be disappointed. Our 4 kids (20 thru 16) found it very informative.

Taff is a wonderful guide: expert in WW2 and mediaval history, he brings you back in the past with relevant pictures and many pieces ou collection. He knows a lot of accurate détails and is an amazing entertainer. But most of all, Taff is completely dedicated to people and adapts the tour in order it fits your interests.

Thank you Taff...I highly recommend your tour!
