Had a excellent cold war & third reich tour with Martin. He is passionate about all things Berlin, and tailored the tour perfectly to our needs. He has an amazing eye for the detail, and he provided interesting details of the Berlin wall & tunnels that were new to us even after doing the in-depth underground tunnel tour with another company. Martin made a 5-Hr tour very easy with anecdotes and bringing the details to life with good storytelling. Our first tour unfortunately wasn't a good experience but with Mike's help we got Martin to take us out on the second tour. Mike, the owner, has been great with communicating about the tours in Berlin. overall, a great experience and will recommend Insider Tours.

A walking tour that has left us as a family inspired to learn more and visit more of the tours. Maria D (Brazilian Maria) was exceptional, we are a family of 4 including 7yr old son and 11 year old daughter I was worried on meeting at 10am about the lack of children and how our youngest would get on. Maria’s intro had the kids hooked she went at a pace they could understand but also engaged with some others on the group who were very knowledgable on the subject. The DIY approach would not have kept young ears listening or engaged for 3 hrs in way in which Maria did, if you are unsure whether to book absolutely do!!

Our guide Jamie is a local graduate student specializing in nationalist movements. His base of knowledge regarding the Cold War and the social forces in existence during the time before reunification was extensive and his storytelling was superb. The anecdotes he related are the way history is taught by the professionals, and Jamie definitely qualifies as one of them.

Of the three tours we did in Berlin, this was the best one.

The timings between stops were perfected and Eran was incredibly pleasant.

There were tonnes of nuggets brought to life because of the Nazi-styled station signs, the tunnels outlined with ground markers etc.

It all felt very to-the-point and had the perfect amount of emotion to information.

This was a 4 hour long walking tour which was very informative and interesting. Our guide, Nickolai was excellent. He had almost too much information to impart. Concise and accurate about Cold War history but never dull. He also related his own story of flight from Bulgaria to the West. We were lucky to be in a group of only 4 people and Nickolai kept up his talk pretty much the whole time even on the underground.
The remains of the Wall in Bernauerstr. and stories of escapes, successful or thwarted, were moving. The "ghost stations" on the underground were interesting.
You should buy a day ticket for public transport before meeting as you will travel on the S and U Bahn.
The tour finishes at the Stasi Museum (reviewed sparately) but entry to it is not included in the tour. Allow at least another hour to look around.

I love our tour with Chloe so much. The Cold War is a piece of history I’ve been interesting in since I learnt about it. I went with my grandparents on our short city break - they themselves lived in Germany during the Cold War and hadn’t been back since and really liked seeing the wall from a different perspective and finding out all the niche info on escapes and methods from the Stasi.

I totally recommend this tour to anyone considering one. My only point is that there is not many places to sit on it if mobility is an issue.

I really enjoyed this tour of some of the major Cold War sites with our Guide, Maria. I have done quite a lot of guided walks around Europe and can tell a good Guide and Maria is one of them. She was very knowledgeable and was able to answer questions clearly and confidently.

We started at the "Palace of Tears." We then took the S-bahn out to the Berlin Wall memorial site, where Maria told us many stories about the people who attempted to cross the wall, or go under it. After a quick coffee break, we headed back to Alexanderplatz, where we heard about some of the buildings in the area and the part in which it played at the end of the DDR.

All in all, it was time well spent. I learned a lot and would not hesitate to recommend it to you.

Good balance of talking, walking, and seeing. Some have pointed to Nikolai as really adding value because of his experiences direct and indirect of the Cold War period. I agree! I think the tour would have been better w/ better attention to the start time and end time, but definitely thought the tour was worthwhile.

Maria was knowledgeable, witty, and friendly throughout the tour. Her insights made the tour feel well rounded and helped us better understand the context of the information presented. While it was initially overwhelming to be surrounded by so much information at the wall, she did a great job of explaining the key points and answering specific questions we had.

I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to visit the wall and learn more about the Cold War. She made a very heavy topic feel more accessible and digestible, and for that we are very thankful.

Our guide for this tour was Nickolai, who explained that he grew up behind the Iron Curtain and whose personal experiences gave an added dimension to his storytelling.
Over the course of 3.5 hours we visited several locations where Nickolai gave us a potted history. We did not have time to linger long at the memorials or to read all the exhibits, but the tour served as an introduction to key sites that we will return to in our own time. Seeing the same stretch of Wall from both the West and East Berlin perspectives was especially informative.
The tour did not involve as much walking as I had expected because we covered quite a bit of distance by U-bahn. Be prepared for quite a bit of standing while listening, however! We had two comfort breaks, including one at the Cafe Sybill where we bought the best coffee we've had in Berlin.
Thanks Nickolai for a great tour!
