Overview
This half day tour will take you to discover one of the most emblematic places in Catalonia, the amazing and mystic Montserrat Mountain. During the first part of the tour, we will enjoy a guided visit to learn about the history and meaning of this place. We can visit the interior of the Monastery and the Church, where is located the famous virgin known as “La Moreneta”. The tour also includes the entrance to the audio visual exhibition and a taste of typical liquors.
Highlights
  • Explore Montserrat independently on a coach trip from Barcelona
  • Free time to view the basilica, Black Madonna, grotto, and more
  • Hear the Escolania boys’ choir (if performing) and taste liquor made on site
  • Ideal for independent travelers who want transport included
What to Expect
Join your guide and board an air-conditioned coach in central Barcelona for a drive up the mountain of Montserrat, admiring its saw-toothed peaks. Along the way, hear about Montserrat’s Royal Basilica and Monastery, famous as the home of the Black Madonna (La Moreneta), a revered 12th century statue of the Virgin Mary. On arrival, savor the panoramas over Barcelona and the countryside, and after an introduction to Montserrat, explore as you want. Admire the basilica inside and out, see and learn about the Black Madonna, and, if time allows, climb to the grotto where it’s believed the statue was found. Enjoy entry to Montserrat’s audio-visual museum, and choose to sample and purchase the monastery’s homemade liquors at the gift shop. Depending on the date of your visit, you may also hear a recital by Montserrat’s acclaimed Escolania boys’ choir. Your trip concludes with a coach drop-off back in central Barcelona.

We really should have booked the full day option to enjoy more of Montserrat. The half day doesn’t allow enough time, particularly when standing in line is required for different parts.

What an amazing place, the mountains were stunning, unfortunately I didn't get to see the black madonna, due to a mass, hence it was closed. Too many queues.

Hello, the pick up point is at Julia Travel’s office in Balmes street near Plaça Catalunya. You’ll have to check-in there (at the office), then a guide will take the group towards the bus.
