About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- SIMON M0 contributionsA phenomenal way to see the city! This was an exceptional tour. Pia’s knowledge of the architecture and history of Barcelona was extraordinary and she gave us an insight into the way that history affects Barcelona today. I can’t recommend it highly enough.Written 14 January 2025
- lisaC7686SY0 contributionsA great way to see and learn about Barcelona!Jelena gave us such a wonderful introduction to Barcelona. As both a trained architect and professor she is a very knowledgeable guide. She showed us the city as it grew and was modernized by the 1929 World Expo and the 1992 Olympics. We learned about the industries, politics and people who influenced and shaped the city in a relaxed and experiential way. She patiently answered all our questions and the 3+ hours went quickly by. I’m so glad we had this experience!Written 5 January 2025
- 153erinj0 contributionsGreat for non architects tooPia was a great guide and her English was fantastic. She even translated some words to Italian for one member in our small group of 5. While some of the people on the tour were architects who understood many of the names Pia mentioned, it was still interesting to hear the political and religious reasons for architecture changing throughout history for those of us who aren’t architects. The only challenge we had was finding the group since there were roughly 8 tours all starting at the same location.Written 23 September 2024
- Climber314986501470 contributionsGreat Tours!I attended the ‘Barcelona & Bofill’ tour after contacting them last minute. The walk was great - it was great to visit the buildings and the context that the architect guides gave was fantastic. Thanks to the Barcelona Architecture Walks team for facilitating it for me!Written 11 September 2024
- Q9314QMleef0 contributionsInteresting and Informative TourWe traveled to Barcelona for my dad's 80th birthday and as a family of urban planners decided to do the Barcelona & Urbanism tour on our first full day. The tour was fabulous! Pia was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed our time with her. It was a private tour and she was able to adjust it to my parents' walking speed which we greatly appreciated. This was also a great tour for the beginning of our 8-day stay in Barcelona, as it increased our appreciation of the city's architecture and planning context throughout our stay. I highly recommend this tour!Written 29 July 2024
- 764alinah0 contributionsPia rocks! We booked the Gaudi walking tour. Pia was our guide. We had such a great time and learned about Gaudi but so much more - history of Barcelona, development of the city, urban planning history etc. Would recommend to anyone but especially someone with a deeper interest or understanding of how cities are built.Written 8 July 2024
- travelmamanow0 contributionsIf you already love architecture….If you have a special interest and previous experience with architecture then this is likely a great tour for you. It’s like taking a 201 vs. 101 class, it is a better tour if you have previous knowledge about the field. It is not designed as an ‘intro’ to Barcelona architecture tour. The guide had extensive knowledge, but didn’t know how to make it accessible to all members of our group. Think architecture encyclopedia vs captivating story teller, so if you already have an interest any of your questions can and will be answered but the guide is not a story teller and will likely not pull you in without previous interest. One teen and parent found it interesting, while the other two couldn’t wait for it to end.Written 21 June 2024

- Sightseer634574550110 contributionsAmazing! If you want to understand Barcelona's architectural history, this tour is a must! It adds great value to your trip. I took it twice and had a fantastic time. Pia is very knowledgeable and makes the information easy to understand. You'll likely meet amazing people in your tour group as well. One of the highlights of my trip!Written 2 June 2024
- tankycmg0 contributionsFantastic Tour - Barcelona and GaudiThis is for the Barcelona and Gaudi Tour. With all of the different types of tours, I wasn't sure if a $45 E lead by an architect would be worth it. IT WAS!! So much fun to dive into the design, building codes, and history, and I learned SO much more that other tour guides would know. While the focus was Gaudi, we also learned about other architects and designers. After 2.5 hours, most of us still wanted to continue walking and learning and talking. Highly recommend!!Written 21 May 2024
- 240donnak0 contributionsVery informative tourWe gained so much information about the city on our walk with Pia. To understand the buildings and the city design was enlightening. Such passion and knowledge. Easy to ask questions. I could have spent hours in her companyWritten 20 May 2024
- Paradise207451501210 contributionsThank you for a super city tourOur 4 person group toured the city streets with a landscape architect Daniela for four hours. She told and showed us how the city has developed from 1859 to today. It was a fascinating way to get to know the city and it's history. The one thing that we always will remember from the tour is the courage of the Barcelona city, architects and landscape architects to implement even the more unusual plans. In addition, this four-hour session increased the understanding of how much urban planners and landscape architects need to know and to take into account when making plans.Written 14 May 2024
- suzanneo9540 contributionsLearned so much; Pia was wonderfulOur guide Pia was funny, passionate and clearly knew her stuff. My engineering grandson and son-in-law would have loved it but as non-architects we did too. Perfect combination of the technical and non-technical, engineering, architecture and history. Best architecture tour I have ever had and headphones were a plus. No matter where you stood you could hear Pia’s commentary . Couldn’t recommend more highly.Written 11 May 2024
- AnupaSahney0 contributionsAn amazing architectural walk and exploration in BarcelonaWe had an amazing walk with Pia - she was well informed well paced and the personal stories and the in-depth knowledge of the city and its structures made this an amazing learning experienceWritten 6 May 2024
- stephenwH4567VF0 contributionsIf you don't do anything else, do thisAs journalists, we travel for a living and generally shun guided tours, preferring to find out things by ourselves. But boy, were we wrong this time: The Gothic to Modern tour was simply spectacular. Give the credit to Pia, an architect and university-level architecture lecturer who made a three-hour stroll through the old city into a genuinely absorbing master course in history, sociology and design. We'd walked the area for three days before the tour and thought we knew it well, but Pia's expertise taught us that we'd only been looking at the buildings -- not really seeing the cues that spoke to their history and the stages of the city's growth. We left wanting to buy books on Barcelona architecture and history to see what else was there. Barcelona is a magical place, but both of us would agree that the tour was perhaps the highlight of our week-long stay. (And no, we weren't paid or otherwise induced to write this. It's all true.) Put this at the top of your to-do list if you're going there.Written 28 April 2024

Thank you Carmen for such an amazing walk through Barcelona. Thanks to you and your vast knowledge with the subject I was able to enjoy my visits to Casa Batlo, Guell park and the other Gaudi's excibitions. Thanks to Carmen My family and I were able to not only understand Gaudi's work but we were also able to explain it to others who had no knowledge of the subject, some of the people we spoke to just went there because is what tourist do, but we were inmerse with Gaudi's architecture and his vision.
I highly recommend this tour to everyone who wants to visit Gaudi's masterful arquitecture art work, this showed us not only the current state of his work, but the work throughout Barcelona.
Carmen's passion for her work is evident when she tells the many topics that encompasses this tour. Thank you Carmen for this wonderful walk.

I studied engineering and architecture in school 30+ years ago, so it's been a dream to come to Barcelona and experience Gaudi. This week my dream came true, and while reading a book or informational signs or getting a general tour is nice for background information, to truly understand the buildings, the architects, and the designers, and most importantly understand the "why?", you need a tour by an expert. Pia did a wonderful job leading our group of 11 on the Gaudi Tour, providing earphones for folks to ensure they'd be able to hear her on the sometimes noisy city streets, and making the 3-hours fly by. I think most of us would have continued following her around the city and listening to her stories for several more hours. She put the history of the area into context, added in building code requirements, as well as the water and sewer infrastructure, and had boards with maps and photos along the way. There was so much I learned, it was hard to take it all in, but I loved every minute of it. Next time I'm in Barcelona, I will definitely take another tour from this firm. They are top notch, and well worth it.

This is what we wanted; an informed and fascinating three hours that introduced us to the architecture and environs of central Barcelona. Our host Rafael was so experienced but easy to communicate with and our conversations opened up a world of ideas and the beauty that is Barcelona. We highly recommend Barcelona Architecture Walks as a wonderful way to begin your stay in the city, without the crazy hype of the many "skip the line tours" that just hustle you around one tourist site after another. Get to know what you will be looking at first, and understand the rich history of this amazing city your are visiting. Our tour made our stay n Barcelona memorable, and such a great beginning. After the tour when we did see some of the architectural sites, it was such a richer experience for us, much more than just reading a guide book or googling about these sites. Rafael has been in Barcelona for 30 years, is a trained architect, and knew his stuff!

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our architectural walking tour with our guide, Pía. Pía has a wealth of knowledge and brought the history of Barcelona to life! Additionally, it was an incredible honor to learn about city’s rich architectural history (past and present) from someone who has practiced the field and is now currently teaching architecture to university students.
If you have an appreciation for architecture and learning the significance of Barcelona’s beautiful structures beyond the facade, I highly recommend taking a tour with Barcelona Architecture Walks!

We tell everyone this was one of our favorite experiences in Barcelona. This is a very educational tour, almost like a college lecture, led by an actual professional architect. The information was very helpful for understanding and appreciating the city and planning other activities. The tour attracts curious, educated, participants so we were able to meet other people interested in art and architecture. The tour is very well planned with breaks and presentations along the route. Your guide will also show you maps and historical photographs so you have a better understanding. The walking is easy and our guide was fascinating. You will learn much more about Gaudi and Barcelona on this tour than you will from touring any of the Gaudi houses. If we could have stayed in Barcelona longer we would have taken more tours from this group.

It was the first thing we did right after we landed, we hadn't even checked in at our hotel. We couldn't reach the tour guide Pia to let her know we could've arrived late, so we decided to try to get to the meeting point as soon as possible with our luggage in hand. We found the group at the meeting point and let Pia know about our situation. She was very kind and understanding, and let us check in at the hotel first which wasn't too far from the route we had to walk. She would make an introduction a bit longer to wait for us. After we finally joined the group, we got the hearing aids which were really useful with this mode of guided tour. Pia was very insightful with all the history of every place we visited and full of the architecture and structure knowledge. We were really enthusiastic to listen to her resources as we both have architecture degree (but we both did not end up being an architect). The route was not too long or exhausting for walking, and we got to see all the highlights in the area. We would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Gaudi like us or an architecture nerd. For those who are not in the creative industry, it is also very interesting to learn the brief history of what had shaped the legacy and greatness of Barcelona up until today.

This is a terrific tour. It really covers more than just Gaudi - we learned a lot! I was a little concerned about booking this tour, because they don't specify where the tour goes or whether they go inside any of the sights, and I was concerned about covering the same ground twice (we had already visited a few Gaudi sights on this trip). I didn't need to worry - the tour only goes into publicly accessible spaces, i.e. building lobbies, and the information provided was so in depth and well-presented, it was a beautiful compliment to our other experiences in Barcelona overall as well as specifically to Gaudi sites.

This was a very enjoyable and informative way to get a good understanding of Gaudi, and the world in which he worked, ie Barcelona. Pia, our guide, was wonderful; personable, interesting, engaging, informative, educative, if that’s a word. it was a total delight to spend 3 hours with her as she taught us about architecture, gaudi and Barcelona . She gave a great overview of Barcelona history , woven into current developments in the city today. Some of her commentary was a bit technical, but it did give us a greater appreciation for Gaudi.
Highly recommend, if you’re interested in getting more depth in understanding Barcelona than the usual guide. Excellent value.

I did two tours with Barcelona Architecture Walks, one focused on Gaudí and the other on Urbanism, and both were amazing. Pia, our guide for both, went out of her way to answer all my questions and shared incredible local knowledge. It was the perfect way to tap into a deeper understanding of the city and its culture, especially when you only have a few days to explore. The tours gave me a great foundation for appreciating other sites, like the Sagrada Família, and the insights went far beyond what most other tours offer. To top it off, Pia even helped me book a restaurant, which ended up being the best meal of my trip! Highly recommend.

My kids (ages 20 & 18) and I really enjoyed this very informative tour. Pia was an incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide who provides a lot of detail about the history of Barcelona and how that history impacted the city's layout and architectural design. My kids and I are definitely "city people" who enjoy wandering around looking at buildings, so this was just the right kind of tour for us. We also enjoyed talking with Pia after the tour was over!
