What to expect
Meet your guide in central Madrid and dive into the buzzing neighborhood of La Latina, considered the city’s oldest area. Explore the lanes and squares as your guide tells of the district’s history and legends. Pass gardens, cafes, and old inns converted into boutique hotels and stop for photos. Walk along Madrid’s original main street and call at a historical convent that sells traditional sweets handmade by the nuns. Buy some sweets (own expense), if you wish, before heading to the multicultural quarter of Lavapiés, where Spanish eateries rub shoulders with Asian and African shops. Learn about the eclectic community and peruse the fresh produce stalls at a local food market. Enjoy tapas tastings and drinks, and visit a nearby arts center to view modern artworks and learn about Madrid’s flamenco culture. Lastly, browse some multicultural shops for mementos (own expense) before your tour ends in Lavapiés.

Getting to know Madrid
Feb 2020 • Couples
Andrea was a friendly, fun and informative guide. We learned so much about the interesting neighborhoods of Madrid, customs, restaurants and markets. Tastings were delicious- chocolate and churros, chorizo and cheeses, bread and pheasant pâté, nun-made cookies, wines and cava. It was a wonderful four hours well-spent with a very nice group of fellow tourists.

Thank you for this wonderful review! We are so happy to read the great experience you had during our Local neighborhoods & Gourmet Tapas experience! Andrea is a great guide: professional, full of local knowledge and with a great sense of humor! She knows how to transmit information without being boring. The itinerary was designed to cover the historical icons of Madrid and local neighborhoods, stopping in traditional places such as San Gines but also, supporting family businesses as the ones we stop by in the Markets. We are glad to read how much you enjoyed! Thank you for recommending us to everyone travelling to Madrid!

We totally enjoyed tour and insights into Madrid. Andrea was excellent and very genuine. We loved the overview of Madrid, the plazas we visited, the markets, the oils, the wines, the simple food and particularly the off-the street hidden gems.

Highlight of our trip to Madrid!!
Nov 2019
Leila took us on the tour on our very first day in Madrid, which was ideal because we got to spend the rest of our time there with a better lay of the land, sense of history, ideas of where to eat/what to see, etc. She was REALLY knowledgeable and also a delight to spend a day with!

HIGHLY recommend this experience. We got to explore some local markets and try local specialties (hosted by some lovely people/experts), saw interesting historical spots (including some secret ones that we would never have otherwise seen or learned about), got to ask Leila all kinds of nosy questions about Madrid, Spain and its culture and got great recommendations for where to eat, drink, wander and so on. If you're into food, history and local culture, this is the experience for you!! Thank you Leila for an amazing day!

Awesome Walking tour with Daniela!
Nov 2019
We toured Chocolateria San Gines for some churros and Chocolate + coffee, the Convent of Cloistered nuns on calle del Codo for the nevadivto cookies, the Mercado de la Cebada, to visit my good friend Dani for olive oil and wine, and the Mercado de Anton Martin for some artichoke pate and Cava!

Our guide was Daniela Parkes and we could not have had a better tour. She is a native speaker of both English and Spanish and her knowledge of the history of Spain and Madrid is exceptional. She really made the tour special by relating the history of Madrid associated with the very stones we were walking on.

One thing that made the tour special is that Daniel took us to places off the beaten track. We visited prison cells dating from the Inquisition that are underneath a modern senior center (no signs advertise these) and we saw part of the Madrid wall discovered in an excavation in the 1908s. This was inside a non descript apartment building for which Daniela arranged access (again, not advertised; you'd never know it was there!)

She is funny and kind and a pleasure to spend time with. I could not recommend a guide more highly.

Wow! Thank you! Thank you for such detailed feedback. We are happy to read the incredible experience you had with Daniela! Also, it's fantastic to read the friendships that came out of the tour with local vendors such as Dani from the market. All the people we collaborate with, they are experts and love to show you the products and if you notice, when you show a bit of interest... you can spend the entire day listening to them! Thank you again for such an amazing feedback and well, looking forward to meeting you again! Regards from the entire team of Urban Adventures in Madrid!

Tapas Crawl
Leila our tour guide was full of energy, life, and jokes! It was a pleasure to have her and gave us lots of insights how locals do tapas in Madrid. Plus, she gave us interesting facts and took us to interesting places around Madrid besides the tapas bars we went to. Places that I probably won’t figure out with a simple google search. It was an amazing night. I highly recommend you do this especially in your first 1-2 days in Madrid because it helps you get acquainted with the area as well.

Amazing evening!
Oct 2019
We had SUCH an amazing time on this tour! My husband and I absolutely loved it. Our group was small (there were 5 guests on the tour) and all of us really got to know each other. Our guide was fantastic. She made all of us feel personally welcome on the tour and made an effort to get to know us each individually. She took us to a mixture of great local spots and we loved all of the food that we ate and all of the drinks we drank! I would recommend this tour to those who are looking for some local flair and some tips on what to look for in food and drink while traveling through Spain. This was such a fun evening!

True local experience with dose of personalization
Impeccable Madrid neighborhood walking and tapas experience. Cannot overly express how positive the experience was. The very best things about our guide and new friend Leila was that she’s authentic to herself the entire trip. She was informative, professional, caring, funny, friendly, inclusive, enjoying herself as much as us and is just an absolute delight. The person you’re with on an experience absolutely makes the experience and this was a great mix of learning, eating, and conversing about things you don't and won't find on your own - through a local's eye. We also had a very good group and we interacted with people on the street, in shops, each other. It was all very immersive and time flew by even for a 4hr tour. The fact our group was very personalized (small group) made this a truly unique and highly recommended experience for all.

Extraordinary Tour Guide AND Chocolate, Wine and Tapas
Jul 2019
Andrea Droege, our tour guide, turned an ordinary tour into an extraordinary afternoon. She is an expert on Madrid, and had studied tourism to enhance her skills in sharing this amazing city. Andrea is knowledgeable beyond measure, funny and truly a great person. We immediately fell in love with her, and booked another tour for the very next day. Everything about both tours was very well done: from the meeting instructions, length of tour and the various stops along the way. Do yourself a favor...book this tour and request Andrea!!
