Great way to travel
A later and more central departure than from Padova. Initially I thought it was quite expensive but it includes a four course lunch and a bottle of wine, visits to three major properties and a knowledgeable guide so well satisfied. A great way to relax after the sightseeing in Venice.

We loved this. The company were great about postponement caused by covid. Their pre-departure information was excellent. The boat is fine. The journey is a world of contrasts. Good views leaving Venice. Interesting to see the laguna heading Southwest. The river & canals allow you see the industry of Mestre, the palazzi, the small towns, the lock system, the bird life, three Villa stops & countryside at a leisurely pace. There are criticisms in previous reviews. No free water or coffee. We were provided with both. Long waits to be talked to in your chosen language. At stops, we were given times for a talk in our language. Lunch was delightful & very generous for the price. Our guide, Olympia was very knowledgeble, helpful & charming. It is possible to leave the boat before Padova, to get back to Venice earlier. So glad that we didn't do this. The slow cruise into Padova was a highlight. All along the way, people waved & tooted their car horns to us. A bargain.

Half a day on the river between Oriago and Stra
This boat goes between Venice and Padua and vice versa, depending on the day. On Tuesdays goes towards Padua, and we took it in Oriago, where it stops longer for lunch in Il Burchiello restaurant. Leaving at 13:15 with a very enthusiastic guide, explaining lots of historical background and anecdotes along the trip and inside the 2 villas included in the tour, Villa Whitman in Mira and Villa Pisani in Stra. From Stra we got a bus back to Oriago, after enjoying an extra hour visiting the Villa Pisani garden, impossible if you want to continue the trip in the boat up to Padua. The walk up to Stra centre to get the bus is not very nice though, along the external wall of the villa, in the grass, with the road full of traffic at your left, but it's just about 15 minutes, and the bus 53/E arrived quickly (time table don't seem to be much respected, but in principle there is a bus each half an hour).
Not particularly cheap (65 euros per person) but worth, especially with good weather. You can enjoy the panoramic top of the boat and observe the passages of 2 water lifts and the opening, often by hand, of numerous bridges.

Interesting Trip Up River
Solo
This trip up the river to see villas, is a lovely idea and the staff is great, however it was a bit long and tendious. We left from Venice on the top deck, which has a lovely view, but by mid-day it’s so hot you are forced to go inside and the villas are very hard to see from below. We stopped at three villas, and the guide has the tough task of translating in three languages – Italian, English and French, however after almost 10 hours, it was a bit much with the constant chatter, and there’s no where to go on the boat for any quiet since the speakers are at every other seat. The villas are beautiful and you get to visit three on the inside which is a treat for all the gorgeous frescoes. It’s also interesting to see how the moveable bridges and locks work as the boat goes through them. You also have to pay 20E extra for luggage which is a big ridiculous since the boat is so large.

Tip: It’s kind of a hop on and off so perhaps joining the boat along the river path so it’s a shorter trip and you can still see the villas.

Wonderful Day Excursion on The Brenta River! All you could dream of!

What a better way to step in time than a leisurely cruise on the Brenta river aboard the Burchiello. This is a great complement to understanding the state of minds of great artists such as Casanova, Byron, Goethe as they approached La Serenissima. Modernity has been gentle to these bucolic shores and the Brenta Riviera remains a heaven of peace and serenity. After a prompt departure from the Pietà bridge on Riva del Schiavoni we made our way to the mouth of the Brenta river hence all was bucolic serenity. Passing through locks and experiencing swinging bridges here and there, the comfort of our Burchiello was unsurpassed and offered a 360 degrees panoramic views of Villas and countryside. The guide was multi lingual and very forthcoming in sharing historical and artistic informations. We visited all the villas mentioned in the itinerary at a leisurely pace with ample opportunities for questions and photography. One of the highlight was the excellent lunch (reservations on board) at the Burchillo hotel. We finished with the grandest of Villa, Villa Pisani and hopped on a bus for a short ride back to Venice. Others in the group opted to terminate at Padua and take the train back. All in all a Wonderful journey in time and a well organized tour!

A pleasant day away from Venice

This well-managed and comfortable all-day excursion to Padua on the Brenta Canal is an excellent way to see the countryside outside the city. The boat glides past many mansions from the 15th and 16th centuries, touring three, including Malcontenta, one of Palladio's masterpieces. There are a few locks to negotiate, and a good lunch at a canal-side restaurant can be arranged. i
