What to expect
After a pickup from central Zurich, you’ll sit back on a relaxing journey past Lake Lucerne and through the Swiss Alps. Missing no landmarks, the tour includes photo stops by key monuments, such as Chapel Bridge, along with historical tales about each one. Back on the coach, you’ll continue to Engelberg to enjoy some leisure time. Amble around the alpine town, checking out points of interest recommended by your guide. Later, you’ll see traditional cheese made at a historic monastery and then have time for lunch (own expense). Work off the food with a short hike along the mountain trails or just relax in the village before your journey back to the Zurich starting point.

Perfect Day!
Dec 2019 • Couples
Wonderful day trip to Mt Titlis. Worth every penny. Henry, our guide, was excellent and thorough. The gondola ride up the mountain was beautiful as was being on top of Earth drinking wine on a beautiful sunny day.

Day trip to Lucerne and Engelburg
Jun 2019 • Couples
I would highly discourage anyone from taking this “tour”. We meet up with the group from Zurich in Luzern, as we were already staying there. From there it was chaotic due to the fact that there was 3 different tours going on. Since all we were going to do was go see Engelberg, the guide basically gave us a poorly drawn map with 2 sights to see and a pick up location and left us to our own doing. I apologize but there is NOTHING there to see. The map that was drawn up couldn’t even correctly tell us where the information center was. We spent 3 hours just walking around a small town. Then spent another 2 hours on the bus waiting for the others to come back down the mountain. This review should have no reflection on the tour up the mountain, however the Engelburg tour is a waste of time and money.

Dear Brian, Thank you very much for having joined our tour to Engelberg and for having taken the time to rate your experience. We truly appreciate your feedback as it helps us to constantly improve our services and to ensure our tours meet the quality standards that our guests expect. It is correct that the bus had guests from different tours on board on that day. The merging of groups allows us to offer not only tours to well-known destinations such as Titlis, but also to smaller but not less interesting places with lower guest numbers such as the destination of your choice. As officially stated in our program, our «Engelberg – Alpine Village» tour is guided from Zurich via Lucerne to Engelberg and back to Zurich. In between, the guests discover the village on their own with the help of a comprehensive information booklet with recommendations of sights and activities. We are sorry to hear that our guide did not take enough time to provide sufficient information for you to enjoy your three-hour stay to the fullest. Engelberg is a typical Swiss alpine village with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. While it is not to be compared with a city, there are various options available: one can visit the baroque-style Benedictine monastery with its own cheese factory or hike one of the many trails in the beautiful surroundings. We are sorry that your trip did not live up to your expectations and hope that you were still able to enjoy a great stay in Switzerland. It was our pleasure to have you as our guest and we would be very happy to welcome you on one of our tours again on your next trip to Switzerland Best regards, Best of Switzerland Tours

If you want to see Luzern & Engelberg, this is not the trip for you.
Mar 2019
The bus carried passengers to Lucerne, Engelberg & Titlus. We were the only one visiting Lucerne & Engelberg, all others were going to Mt. Titlus. All of us were a given a quick 1 hour stop in Luzern, including lunch time. Then we were all shuttled to Mt. Titlus. We were the only 2 people going to Engelberg. Close to 4 hours in Engelberg, with absolutely nothing to do!!!!!!!! Such a waste of money and time. :-( We took a train and went back to Lucerne ourselves and spent enough time there. So please don't take this trip if you are not going to Mt Titlus. It is a WASTE.

Dear guest, thanks for having reviewed your experience. We are sorry to hear that you were unable to enjoy our tour to Lucerne & Engelberg. The merging of tour groups allows us to provide different experiences such as our tour to Engelberg even with lower guest numbers besides our popular tour to Mount Titlis. The tour is clearly advertised as a partly guided tour and is cherished by many as it allows you to use free time at your own disposal to explore the village of Engelberg or go for a short hike in the alpine surroundings. All guests on our partly guided tours receive detailed written information upon arrival with suggestions on how to use their free time. Engelberg is a popular touristic town in Switzerland and is on the bucket list of many people travelling to Switzerland. We hope that you were still able to enjoy your stay in Switzerland and remain with best regards.

Short but sweet!
Oct 2018 • Friends
If you're looking to just get a taste of the Swiss countryside, this tour is perfect! We only had one day for an excursion, so this allowed us to see both Lucerne and Engelberg, a small Alpine town. We were lucky with gorgeous weather in addition to the autumn foliage, so the landscapes were breathtaking. You only have an hour in Lucerne and three hours in Engelberg, so you have to make the most of your short time. We just walked around the farmers market at the center of Lucerne and did a bit of hiking in Engelberg. The bus was comfortable and the guide provided a lot of interesting facts about Switzerland as we drove along. Great tour for the low price!

very disappointing tour
Aug 2018 • Family
This was by far the worst tour I took on this trip.
Massive bus with almost 4 different tour groups, so you can imagine the amount of overlap and randomness in terms of what is covered. Our first stop was at Lucerne where we barely had ONE hour to cover a bustling combination of old and new city, with gorgeous bridges and eat! Obviously we couldn't cover much and rushed back for pick up. The first set of tour group remained at Lucerne for the rest of their tour This was for the full day at Lucerne tour.
The rest of us headed off to the next dropoff at Stanserhorn.
On our way to the next dropoff, Mt Titlis, the guide announced that the weather up the mountain was good and things were OK, since the state out of the window was not promising - rainy and foggy. We didn't hear anything for Engelberg. Next dropoff was almost all the guests except 3 of us, along with the driver. Along with just one map in hand, we got off the bus. The driver didn't speak much English and apart from the guide telling us about a cheese factory and monastery, there was no other information.
It was a horrible weather with pouring rain. We headed to the nearest cheese factory, which turned to be a single glass display case in the middle of a store where one single lady was arranging cheese. The factory details were printed on a piece of paper in different languages - we were done in 10 minutes.
The monastery was closed to the public and the tour wasn't available until 3 hours later. We also discovered it was an additional charge to tour and the tour was only available in German. Since we didn't understand German, we headed to the church and even that was closed.
We walked into the village and voila, everything was closed. The stores, eating places, nothing was open. We spent 3 hours walking around in a closed town with NOTHING to do in a miserable weather. The only stores that were open were Co-op and Migros, which is where we managed to get some lunch.
We were back in the bus, again waiting for all the different tour groups to be picked up along the way and had the worst experience of all.
After the tour, we contacted the company and they refused to refund for the right proportion of the day that we wasted and charged us for a full day Lucerne tour, when we only got 1 measly hour to look around. The guide failed to give us options to decide. If we had known Engelberg was mostly closed, we could have chosen to remain at Lucerne or at least proceed to Mt Titlis. It was a real ripoff and colossal waste of time. But of course the tour company doesn't agree with that.
I will definitely not recommend this for anyone.

Dear traveller Thank you very much for taking the time to review your experience with us. We are very sorry to read that the tour to Engelberg did not meet your expectations and you therefore haven't been able to fully enjoy the service provided on this tour. It is correct that the tour to Engelberg is not operated in a separate coach as we would not be able to fill a coach with guests who want to visit Engelberg only. Engelberg is the village located at the foot of Mt. Titlis and the main highlight of this region is the glacier Mt. Titlis. For ecological reasons, we combine these destinations in the same coach and although most guests join us for Mt. Titlis, we regularly welcome guests who prefer to spend time in Engelberg only. The tour to Engelberg is designed for guests who like to experience an alpine village or e.g. are afraid of taking the cable car. Sometimes these parties even travel together and appreciate the fact of being in the same coach. It is promoted as a partly guided tour and while our tour guide proceeds to Mt. Titlis, our Engelberg guests enjoy 3 hours free time in the village offering the possibility to see the baroque-style monastery hosting the only cheese show dairy in a monastery in Switzerland. We take your feedback regarding the things to do in Engelberg into consideration and have started to elaborate a more detailed information booklet which should give our guests some ideas of how to spend their afternoon in Engelberg. We are aware that Engelberg is a relaxed and quiet small village and to some extend understand that some guests expect more action. We also admit that the scenery and facilities may have been more attractive in case of sunny weather but unfortunately, the weather conditions are beyond our control. Having checked our tour records on that day, it states that we had 5 guests booked for Engelberg and 33 passengers for Mt. Titlis. On the way to Engelberg/Mt. Titlis we pass the village of Stans and as we also had 4 guests on our coach who wanted to visit that mountain, we had a brief stop there for drop-off but we are speaking of a period of 10 – 15 minutes which had no impact on the schedule of our tour. The tour guide of course gives explanations of this tour but since it is spotted with general information about our country and the Swiss Alps we feel it is of interest to all guests. It is our aim to offer a well-balanced schedule to our guests taking all expectations and needs into considerations but when travelling in a group, there is also some kind of restrictions with regards to flexibility. We know that there is a lot to see and explore in Lucerne but the main focus on this tour is Engelberg. Offering you a partial refund to charge you for the tour to Lucerne only, we considered a fair compensation. We hope that overall the good memories of your stay in Switzerland will remain in the foreground and that you enjoyed the other excursions you have joined with us. With kind regards from Switzerland

Very dissapointing tour
Dec 2017 • Couples
First of all, the trip isn't a trip to Lucerne and Engelberg as the title indicates. It is a trip to Engelberg with a stop over in Lucerne. They stopped in Lucerne for 1h15mins so we had to hurry up just walking around the streets, didn't have time to go in the shops, let alone visit a museum etc.

20mins after being on the coach we were told we need to sign an insurance form compulsory! to say if we injure ourselves, this will have nothing to do with them.

The guide(I'm sorry....) but she was absolutely useless. The info she provided us was as follows: "if you'd like to have lunch, there's a café where they serve lunch. If you'd like a coffee, there is a coffee shop where they serve coffee". Yup, you've guessed it, pretty office. I was expecting from her some info about the history of places, geography of the mountains etc. culture of the swiss people etc.

Also don't expect this is a guided tour, is pretty much a coach service and you do your own guiding. We were dropped off in Lucerne with no indication whatsoever as to the history, culture of the place, geography, nada :)

Then the trip to Engelberg, well....we decided not to go on the top of the mountain at the cablecar is 80 francs/person so we were left in the village where there isn't anything to do. So we were here for 4h or so in the cold, we took shelter in the monastery's café. The guided monastery tour is 8francs/person and isn't worth it.

Overall, give this trip a miss and maybe try a train trip at your leisure. I do go on quite a few tripadvisor tours and this sadly, has been the most disappointing of all.

Dear vistior Thank you for taking the time to review your tour to Lucerne and the alpine destination Engelberg. This tour is promoted as a partly guided service. As you mention the guide leads the main part o the group to Mt. Titlis meanwhile guest booked for Engelberg stay in the village on the foot of the mountain. It is designed for guests who are afraid of heights or the cable car ride to the top and prefer a bit more relaxed tour to explore the alpine village and its beautiful surroundings. You are right that it would also be possible to reach the place by public transport. Our tour has currently a cost of CHF 72.- meanwhile the public train ticket from Zürich has a cost of CHF 76.-. The advantage then is that you have more flexibility in deciding how long you stay in each place but the disadvantage is that you would not have the guide providing interesting information about history and the places visited. Also take in mind that the train ride from Zürich to Lucerne runs a good part through tunnels meanwhile on the coach ride we take a scenic route to show the beautiful countryside of the Swiss midlands. We do understand that you had different expectations about the tour booked and we are sorry if after experiencing it, you would have chosen different. We still hope you had a good time in Switzerland and bring back home also good memories about your stay in our beautiful country. With best regards
