Majel is really friendly, knowledgeable and speaks great English. She gave us a very interesting look into the history of the area before we set off and pointed out the local wildlife and plants at various points throughout the canoeing as well as an insight into the plans to keep the wetlands from going underwater.
If you're clumsy like me and worried about falling in, her canoes are very large and sturdy, it's very difficult to fall into the water.
Really recommend this to anyone who enjoys nature, being active or just looking for something more relaxed away from the city.

This was hands down my favorite part of my Amsterdam trip! I live in Chicago and kayaking on the Chicago river is a very fun thing to do for tourists to see the city and get some physical activity, so I was looking for something similar in Amsterdam. Much to my dismay, there was no kayaking that I could find downtown, but I am so happy that I came out to the "Wetlands" for this canoe trip! Majel is a wonderful guide. She met me at the train station and then we took the bus to her home where we launched the canoes from her back yard. The canoe trip was beautiful! We saw so much amazing scenery - flowers, windmills, bridges, COWS. And the picnic was delicious!! It was a very relaxing day and I would highly recommend this adventure!

My partner and I had the best time ever on our canoe adventure with wetlands safari! We didn't know what to expect when booking it, but it turned out to be the best part of our holiday. We started off being met at the terminal by our guide, who took us (and paid for!) our bus to her beautiful house in a secluded village right on the water, where we had a cup of tea and some home made cookies (which were delicious!), then we took the canoes around the waterways through the village, into the European protected nature reserves with loads of wildlife - great for birdwatching - where we stopped for a picnic. The picnic was delicious, food for all preferences, including home grown tomatoes which were a particular favourite! Then we took the canoes further down the waterways to a seemingly private lake area where we swam (I'm usually nervous about natural swimming but our guide made it really easy and once we were in it was incredible). We ended the trip back at the house, with a beer in the warm sun- bliss!
And then our guide took us (and again paid for!) Our bus back to the terminal. Will definitely be coming back, and recommending to our friends and family.

My wife and I got lucky as we were the only two people on our paddling adventure with Majel. We start out at her house in an impossibly quaint little village, and Majel explains how the Netherlands landscape was constructed and maintained, then we set out in our canoes for a close look at the natural world Amsterdam was built on, and to see first hand some of the delicately balanced water management that makes it all work. Absolutely fascinating. Also saw a bunch of cool birds!

A friend of mine and i booked this last minute and got to experience such fun!
Majel our guide was not only informative but really kind and so much fun!!!!
We met her at the bus stop took 15 mins to reach our departure point.
She then took us in our boats as we rowed from canal ways. We saw ducks eggs birds cows. It was scenic and beautiful!!!!! If u bought wooden shoes do carry them with you!
You may wear anything you are comfortable in, your feet dont get wet in canoe but once you start walking in the fields.
Welcome and post departure drinks were coffee tea juice water and softdrinks.
Picnic basket was the cutest . Dont worry if you are a vegetarian :)

Not only do you get an absolutely amazing view of the wetlands on the outskirts of Amsterdam, Majel is a fountain of knowledge and builds up a fantastic history of how Amsterdam evolved with the canal structures and wetland development. We had a great day with Majel and she took brilliant care of us. Thank you so much!!

My daughter and I did this canoe trip, which was a nice peaceful break from the busy city. Majel was a terrific guide, full of interesting information about the region. The picnic lunch was delicious, and included gluten free and vegetarian options. Everything was well-organized, communication was great. You take a short bus ride to a small town and then canoe through the canals. Once of our favorite activities of our trip!

Majel was a great host and guide, Of course the day we had booked for this outdoor activity was the only rainy day on our vacation! Majel was prepared with rain gear for us and the drizzle really didn't take away from an enjoyable experience; the birds co-operated, lunch (an amazing lunch) was undercover in a bird blind and the canoeing was very easy. We learned so much about how the land has been created in the Amsterdam area; I have never moved an island before! After walking around cities and touring museums this was a really nice change.

We wanted to spend some time doing something a little bit different on our trip to Amsterdam, as city breaks aren’t usually our thing. Saw this and decided to go for it, really enjoyed it. Lovely to paddle through a typical and traditional Dutch landscape, and also learned a huge amount from our guide who was really knowledgable and interesting.

We met at the bus station as laid out in our confirmation and there was just the four of us including the guide, which when on the tour was great as minimal traffic and great interaction with the guide.
Jumped on the bus and 10 minutes later we were there with 2 kayaks waiting with life jackets if required. A complimentary drink later and a brief stop to let a storm pass and we were on our way. We paddled for 2 hours or so with brief stops to describe the area or show us the wildlife, all very easy paced and relaxing. We then pulled in for our picnic where enough food for three times the people that were there was laid out.
Then the heavens opened and it absolutely chucked it down, we were supplied with jackets to keep the worst off, it passed in 10 minutes and it added to the experience if anything. Then on for an hour and the opportunity to swim if you wanted before a gentle paddle back to the start.
I've only been kayaking once and that was in the sea off Dubrovnik so in no way experienced and only middle of the road in terms of fitness (aged 43) and it was easy and at a casual pace. The only physical thing is having to duck low to get under the very low bridges.
I recommend this tour without hesitation, a great couples experience that we both enjoyed.
