We had a wonderful time learning about and creating a mosaic. There are several patterns for you to choose from based on level of difficulty and Marina was very attentive the whole time making suggestions, answering questions, and helping whenever we needed. It definitely gave me a deeper respect for the art of mosaic making. It was such a fun thing to do in Athens and I would recommend to all adults who travel there. I have young children and I don't think they would have been able to focus for the whole time needed.

Maroussa taught us about the history and evolution of mosaic making in Greece and then we got to make one to take home! My family and I loved it. Please note that it does take 24h to dry and finish so best to do before you leave town. I didn’t know that and Maroussa and her team were so gracious and accommodating, and helped coordinate pick up. If you love crafting or making art, this is a terrific cultural experience.

Amazing Mosaic Making Experience with 13mosaicstudio in Athens
Had such an amazing day learning about the magic of mosaics and this 4000 year art form with @13mosaicstudio in Athens. It truly was “Painting in Stone.”
Whenever I travel I try to take an art class and learn from local artists. Marina and Laura shared their beautiful studio and passion for Mosaics. It was such an inspiring day.
We learned about history of mosaics and got to choose our colors and patterns. Loved visiting the studio, getting inspired by all of the beautiful art pieces by Marina and Laura, and also getting a chance to have a unique and personal conversation with Greek artists.
This is such a u unique and memorable experience. It is for all levels and is very calming and meditative. Perfect way to unwind after two weeks of walking, eating and history tours. The coolest part is that my “advanced” pattern was influenced by a church nearby. So fun to share in art with artists around the world. And, I got to take home an artistic souvenir that I made.

It was nice for 15 minutes. Then, once we started preparing our designs, the “show” began. There were 3 people in the workshop. Once one of them saw how my husband was preparing his design, she told the other two and then, one by one, they came into the room to look at how my husband was doing it (as in, “wrong”), and then go back to the other room to talk about it. We didn’t have to know Greek to understand that they were making fun of him.
Then, for the whole 4 hours of the workshop, all three of them were constantly YELLING at each other, because they “had to discuss some business”. Don’t expect a chill experience- they will give you a headache.
I had to constantly listen to rude remarks about me, while I was sitting right there in front of them! Such as “she’s not the kind to take breaks”, or “she’s tired”, or “she smiled”.
I honestly felt like a nuisance, because they never even interacted with us, except for the very end, where the “main artist” finally asked some questions about us and also said “I don’t mean to brag, but I think I would be middle-class in Switzerland “. What even???!!
And now I have an expensive souvenir that will forever remind me of these rude people who ruined my experience with my husband. On top of that, they uploaded pictures of us without asking for permission!!!!

We are not happy at all to hear that our three-hour mosaic class was such an inconvenient experience for you, although you extended your stay to our studio one hour more, unfortunately none of us understood that our vivid but creative at the same time environment annoyed you, at that higher level.
In Greece, we express and talk loudly sometimes – as generally all the Mediterranean people do so please accept our apologies for not creating the calm environment your husband and you might prefer.
We can reassure you that we did not make any comments for you at all, i.e. concerning your personality, creative skills or other.
Our sincere intention while offering those introductory mosaic classes more than three years now, is to share with each of our visitors individually, our admiration of the timeless beauty of the mosaic world.
We wish you a Happy and Prosperous Year.

As experienced mosaic experts, our teachers taught the history and process. We saw photos of their own mosaics (shop signs in town, etc.) Most of all, they were fun to talk to. I enjoyed their open willingness to get to know us, and explain their home town. Clean, pretty studio with lots of examples and supplies. It made our weekend in Athens become much more than just tired tourist feet. Mosaics meant much more, too.

I can't say enough good things about our time at 13Mosaic! Our host, Marina, was extremely nice and made the entire experience fun and relaxing. Marina started with a brief history of mosaic and you could tell that she had a wealth of experience as she was able to answer all of our questions without hesitation. Afterward, we each selected a pattern to attempt on our own. While we were working, Marina provided helpful tips and encouragement. Perhaps we were talking and enjoying ourselves too much, because we took a little longer than expected to complete our pieces. Even so, Marina kept telling us not to rush and let us finish at our own pace. We thoroughly enjoyed the event and recommend it to anyone!

This was a fantastic way to spend a few hours in Athens, and you get to make your own keepsake to remember your trip by. I am in no way artistic, whatsoever and I had lots of fun and am happy with the finished product! Definitely add this to your itinerary when visiting Athens 😁
