  • Small group of just 14 people allows time to ask questions
  • Come hungry as included samples let you learn through taste
  • Visit hidden food stands and restaurants you might not find on your own
What to Expect
Make your way to a central meeting point, below the Acropolis, to meet your guide and small group of no more than 14. Head into the surrounding neighborhoods on foot to experience local culture through culinary traditions. Listen as your guide offers an orientation to the area and Greek cooking. Stop at specialty shops you might never find without your guide. You’ll sample traditional foods such as koulouri (bread made with sesame seeds); loukoumades (Greek honey dumplings); bougatsa (a sweet or savory pastry); and olives. Duck inside restaurants, dairies, delicatessens, and spice merchants. Learn more about Greek food and culture with each bite, asking questions of your guide and talking to shop owners. The tour’s last stop is bustling Varvakeios market, filled with stalls selling spices, meat, seafood, and fruit; it’s where neighborhood residents shop. Your tour ends in Psyri, where you can explore on your own using your guide’s recommendations.

Had a very interesting tour with Rena this morning. She was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of insights into Greece and Athens. Great to see some of the non-touristy areas where the locals shop and the real food!

It was a lot of walking. Almost three full hours is spent on your feet walking or standing in shops.

I would suggest that you make the reservation in advance and not have to worry about it at the last minute. We had a good size tour so there is always the possibility that it could be filled.
