What to expect
Meet your guide, a fellow foodie, at Vesterbros Torv, in the heart of Copenhagen’s Vesterbro district to begin your walking tour. Then, enjoy an insight into local life as you explore the vibrant neighborhood and hear how it’s transformed in recent years from a red light district to the epicenter of Copenhagen’s art, fashion and nightlife scene. Along the way, stop to take a peek at the old cattle market, pass the bars and venues of Istedgade, and stroll down the busy central boulevard of Vesterbrogade. Continue into the hip Meat Packing district, where you’ll be introduced to some of the neighborhood’s most popular restaurants, and stop to sample an array of Danish specialties. Taste delicious regional cheeses, nibble on local delicacies and enjoy a typical Copenhagen lunch of smørrebrød (open faced sandwiches). Please advise, at time of booking, if you are a vegetarian or have food allergies. Once the tour begins, there is no way of changing the tastings. Your gastronomic adventure isn’t over yet – there’s still time to stop at some artisan food boutiques, sample some homemade chocolates and pay a visit to Copenhagen’s most renowned microbrewery. Finally, with your appetite sated and plenty of recommendations for where to eat in the city from your guide, your tour ends in the center of the Vesterbro district.

Positive and knowledgeable about her city and it's food - great and memorable tour. I can now lecture you on the wonderfulness of Copenhagen's food scene.

Exiting tour behind the scenes
Jul 2020
Really good tour with exiting insights into the 'backyard' of the old slaughter houses with good restaurants.
Especially the open sandwiches and the cod ceviche was delicious.

Fascinating tour of emerging food district
Aug 2019
Maria was a wealth of knowledge as she led us on a discovery of the local history and new food trends in the West End district. This was one of the most interesting 3 hours that we spent in Copenhagen and opened our eyes to a district that we previously knew nothing about. All questions were answered in good humour by our personable guide and there were a few surprises thrown in. Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in food and local culture.

We had an unexpectedly perfect tour as the main event of our day today. She was so professional, approachable, considerate and thorough! We learned a lot about Danish history and culinary vibrancy while having an enjoyable walk through the city. A perfect way to experience this fascinating place and to become at home here.

Sample the local cuisine with a knowledgeable guide.
Jan 2019
We took a wonderful food tour with Maria on a rainy Tuesday in January, and it was a great way to learn about Copenhagen's drive for innovative, authentic, organic food. She took us to several places which we would not have discovered on our own, and brought deep local knowledge. It would be good to book this tour early on in your stay, so that Maria can make suggestions of places to continue your discovery. We would highly recommend this tour, come hungry.

Warehouse District + Chocolate & Beer
Aug 2018 • Couples
We opted for the West End Gourmet Tour because we were staying at a hotel in the Vesterbro neighborhood. The tour, on Thursday, August 23, began less than 10 minutes walk from our hotel and soon moved to the warehouse district near the waterfront. We were the only ones on the tour that day, so in effect we had a "private tour". Weather was good. Our guide had grown up in Canada and lived in Denmark for many years. She spoke Danish, French, and excellent English. In the old warehouse area we made 4 food stops: 1) coffee, tea, and cake in cups (not cupcakes), 2) flat bread and brown bread with charcuterie and spreads, 3) open face sandwiches, croquet ball, and anise aperitif, 4) ice cream (we would later note this ice cream was catching on all around Copenhagen). Next we left the warehouse district and headed down some side streets, at one point walking down into a chocolate shop, and then down into a bar for a microbrewery. The food stops and menu choices were all quite good, we especially enjoyed the open sandwiches, ice cream, and the young woman's presentation/explanation of the beers. Our guide informed us about the recent history of Vesterbro, bemoaned the loss of most true Danish bakeries, escorted us into a kitchen shop (which my baking enthusiast spouse much appreciated), and recommended a food hall and lake walk visit we should try (we did, quite good, by Norreport). Since we were the lone ones on the tour, we had ample time to talk about a variety subjects related to Copenhagen, Denmark, and issues of the day. During the end of our Copenhagen stay the City's annual food festival began and we attended an event in Osterbro run together by 2 really good foodie places, Hahnmanns Kokken and Ostergro. After 23 days in Scandinavia split among 4 sizable cites, our experience indicated Copenhagen seemed to offer the most in new cuisine experimentation and healthy foods, though the other places offered some as well.

Visited Great Places with a Great Guide
Sep 2018 • Couples
The West End Gourmet Tour covers the meat packing district and surrounding areas. Our guide, Maria Beisheim, was excellent. She was very knowledgeable about the evolving food scene in Copenhagen, as well as the history and culture of Denmark. She leads other tours, as well, and I'm sorry we didn't have time to join her on one of the others. We visited a coffee shop, two restaurants, an ice cream shop, a chocolate shop, and a craft beer bar. Each place was truly a great experience. I would describe the West End tour as a hipster food tour for Copenhagen. We visited places run by enthusiastic young people who were creating great small businesses. I highly recommend it.

Very inciteful and eclectic collection of foods. I really enjoyed this tour and it is quite comparable with tours in other countries. I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Copenhagen for the first time.

We were part of a 6 person party on this tour. We started on time and in perfect weather. The tour covered local delicacies and specilaties across wine, spirits, beer , cheese. 2nd place in my tour highlights was a visit to the botanical gardens and sampling the amazing ' city bee' honey. A remarkable taste in the georgeous gardens. But the hihglight was the open gourmet sandwiches for lunch. Each a piece of art to look at and a delight to the palate

there was quite a bit of walking but it was all easy and there was plenty of bathroom breaks allowed. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and one I would hightly reccommend.
