Highlights
Combine two excursions—horse riding and the Golden Circle—in one day trip
Get out of the city and away from the crowds on horseback
All necessary riding gear provided
Good-natured horses are suitable for beginners and pros alike
What to expect
After a morning pickup from your Reykjavik hotel or other designated pickup point, board an air-conditioned coach and head for the horse ranch just outside the city. Get introduced to your trusty steed and learn all about the Icelandic horse, a small but sturdy breed brought to Iceland by the Vikings. The famously 5-gaited Icelandic horse is also noted for its good nature, making it an ideal ride for first-timers and pros alike. Put on your provided gear, mount your horse, and head out for a ride around the peaceful countryside. Afterward, get back aboard the coach for a journey to the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, site of the first Icelandic parliament and home to the “rift valley,” where the continental plates of North American and Eurasia meet. After a stroll around Thingvellir, it's onward to the mighty Gullfoss, an impressive 2-tiered waterfall set in a canyon on the Hvítá River. Your final stops are the nearby spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur, both of which erupt every few minutes, sending plumes of water into the air. Your tour concludes with a drop-off back in Reykjavik.

Favourite day out in Iceland!
Jun 2020
This was such a great part of our visit! It gave us a chance to see some of the amazingly beautiful sights around Iceland and the horse riding was spectacular - so much fun, well cared for horses, and a great way to explore
Even in torrential rain we loved it!

Amazing horseback riding farm - TERRIBLE TOUR
First and foremost, the horseback riding was amazing! Could not recommend it enough. I would book a visit to the farm separately; they are lovely and would go back again in a heartbeat! The horses are gorgeous and friendly, the staff are kind and accommodating. The lunch was amazing. It was a great experience! The tour on the other hand was AWFUL. Do NOT book through this company. They forgot to pick me up at the horse farm. When the owner of the horse farm kindly drove me (they are the best!) to the park, the driver didn’t seem phased at all that they forgot to pick me up. I had 10 minutes at the park and that was the entire stop i wanted to see. I never received an apology or an acknowledgement. When i asked the driver where i should go with my 10 minutes he just shrugged. I have been waiting for this tour for months and was sincerely disappointed.

Also, the driver hit a car when we returned to the city!! Yes, he hit a car!! I had to walk back to my hotel.

Do NOT use this company for a golden circle tour and book the horse riding separately!

Thank you Taryn J for your review of our combination horse riding and golden circle tour. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience at the start of the tour and the first visit at the national park. Due to weather conditions the actual stop at the national park was cut short and our coach had to move on shortly after you arrived. Glad you enjoyed the horse riding at Laxnes which is certainly a wonderful place to experience riding the Icelandic horse. We have seen some extreme winter conditions with snow and ice cover lately and regrettably incidents can happen as a result. I hope that you enjoyed the other sites visited on the Golden Circle tour

Fantastic trip.
Nov 2019 • Friends
We had a wonderful day today on this tour.
Darren was a fantastic host all day and provided both information on the locations tips for each stop.
Kalli was a smooth and safe driver.
I highly recommend both if anyone has the choice.
The tour itself was our best one yet with just enough time at each location to really take in all of each stop's beauty and wonder; but not so long that that we can't wait to come back again.

Amazing fun-filled day!
Aug 2019
This is a great tour for when you don't have much time in Iceland! Laxnes Horse Farm was absolutely amazing with great staff, beautiful horses and good food that can be brought afterwards!
The ride was around 45 minutes to an hour to a viewpoint, a 15 minute break for the horses and to take photos, and then the same ride back. The group was split into two after the break - those that wanted to do the ride back at the same speed at which it came and those who were more experienced and wanted to go faster. I went in the latter group and the pace was a fast trot / tolt and canter. As we got back earlier we talked to one of the girls who had been our guide back about Iceland and the farm, and let the horses go into the field. My mum stayed in the other group as she was nervous and was very well looked after with the guides checking in on her to make sure she was okay.
The atmosphere at the farm was amazing and I would love to go again!
Between the ride ending and being picked up by Grayline to join onto the Golden Circle tour there was around an hour when we brought tea and soup from the farm for a very reasonable price, and could sit outside as the weather was nice and go and pet the horses in the field.

Our guide on the Golden Circle tour was Darren, who was very informative and funny and made the journey very enjoyable and our driver was Andreas, who drove very well. Thingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir are all equally beautiful locations and are well-worth visiting on this tour.
We spent 30 minutes at Thingvellir and around 1 to 1.5 hours each at Gullfoss and Geysir. Whilst for Gullfoss and Geysir the time spent there was sufficient, I feel the tour could be improved by spending more time at Thingvellir as it covers the largest area (I ran to the other end of the rift to see the waterfall at the other side!) but the stop is the shortest. This is only a small niggle however and doesn't take away from the enjoyment of visiting.
Overall this is a fantastic and enjoyable tour, especially if you have limited time in Iceland, and I would definitely do it again!

Great combination of Icelandic Tourism
Aug 2019
What a great cooperation between an Icelandic family horse farm and the Grayline Touring Company. The Laxnes Horsefarm was warm and inviting as we met the entire family who outfitted us for the ride out through the foothills of the mountains. It was beautiful. The family offers a hearty homemade soup and bread lunch for 15,000 K (~ $14.50) but I did not partake, I brought a power bar. Then, the Grayline Tour bus picks you up from the farm (with its prior passengers in it). Our guide Darren and driver Valli were great. The tour was informative, safe and on schedule. Darren was easy and authentic and was able to give us information to make each stop worth its while! If you can ask for Darren and Valli, it's worth it!

Thank you bapnkimchee for writing a review of our combination tour Horse riding and Golden Circle. The Laxnes Horse farm have been the service provider for the horse riding for a long time now and always a pleasure to send our visitors for this very popular combination tour. Pity you didn´t have the homemade soup and bread, a little correction in the price 1.500 ISK around $12.20. Glad you enjoyed the commentary of our guide Darren and safe driving of Valli.

Decent tour for those with little time
Jun 2019 • Family
Horse riding part was best, a full 2 hours of riding. Only walking and trotting though, nothing faster and you're stuck in a long line with others. Bus tour was pretty standard fare, but ok when you only have a short time to visit.

May 2019 • Couples
We were only in Iceland for two nights and opted to go with Grayline for a horseback riding tour and golden circle sight seeing. A small bus picked us up at the bus stop near our hotel and brought us to the main bus station. There, another small bus took us to the horse farm. We were there for a good 3 hours: 0.5 hour getting ready, 1.5 hours horseback riding, and 1 hour lunch. Another grayline small bus then picked us up from the horsefarm and drove us around the golden circle. We stopped at the Pingvellir national park, Gullfoss waterfall, and Geysir. I would've loved to stay at the Pingvellir national park a little bit longer (I think we were there for about half hour), but I guess we would just need to come back some other time. We were told Icelandic anecdotes on the van by our lovely tourguide, which kept the drive interesting. At the end of the day, we were dropped off at the bus stop near our hotel. We were in a group of less than 20 people. Very convenient!

Thank you Cherie S for writing a review of our Viking horse and Golden Circle tour. Glad you enjoyed this combination tour with us and yes, the Þingvellir national park has a lot to offer in a way of hiking trails, the lake and of course the long history of the first parliament. Your feedback is very important to us and your compliments certainly appreciated

Best value tour in Iceland
Apr 2019 • Family
Outside of electricity and hot water, just about everything is expensive in Iceland. This said, this tour, in comparison to most alternatives we considered and pricier tours we have been to, was THE single best tour!

The personnel was fantastic (they equip you from head to toe & they serve you a great cake and hot tea when you come back).

I really enjoyed the warm atmosphere. My son was a bit scarred and wanted to go slower, they managed a different circuit.

This place is legendary in Iceland (everyone seems to know about it and you understand why - you will see many movie star pictures on the walls).

Would warmly recommend.

Horseback Riding Was Worth It
May 2019 • Couples
The horseback riding at Laxnes was really fun and the view was beautiful. We had a group of maybe 15 people riding for two hours with a view of mountains and creeks and a break halfway through for photos. Afterwards we waited for an hour (we ate our lunches we brought in a little dining room at the stables) for a large tour bus to pick us up. The Golden Circle tour was okay- I wish we had a bit more time to explore things. There was a lot of driving compared to time spent out at the sites. I was very tired at the end of the day, so at the same time I wouldn’t have wanted the day to be much longer. Overall fun experience, worth the cost because of the horseback riding.

Amazing Experience!
Apr 2019 • Couples
I chose this day trip on Viator.Com and it was one of the highlights of my trip to Iceland! Honestly, I could have done without the Golden Circle portion - if you have a rental car it’s fairly easy to drive there yourself. But absolutely be sure to book horseback riding at Laxnes Farms! Everyone was so friendly and the horses were absolutely beautiful. Wonderful experience.
