Excellent Walking Tour… must do at the beginning of your trip.
Would highly recommend this tour. Not overly strenuous. The tour lasted ~1.5 hours. Our guide was Tómas and he was great. He lived his entire life here minus 1 year and studied history at the university. Super knowledgeable and he had a few jokes 🤣. Also he had great recommendations at the end. This is why I would recommend the tour at the beginning of your trip so you have time to do some of the recommendations. The tour is free, but donations are welcome. The tour was so great it was worth every bit of a generous donation.

Chilly Walk - Informative & Fun
Jan 2020 • Couples
Outstanding walking tour, led by US-Icelandic history student, Tomas. The best 2 hours of context we have enjoyed for many years. Pitched perfectly for first-time visitors to Iceland, focussed on the historic downtown/harbour area. But we covered social, economic, linguistic, political and many other issues as we sensitively steered our way through Reykjavík.

Excellent Walking Tour With Great Guide
Nov 2019 • Couples
We had a brilliant time on this walking tour with our guide Lalli. It was a small group which gave plenty of opportunity to ask questions and talk to Lalli, who was a fountain of knowledge, a great storyteller and good fun too! Would highly recommend Funky Iceland to anyone visiting Reykjavik.

Finding Your Way Around Reykjavik
Aug 2019 • Couples
Being in our 50s, i thought getting around Reykjavik on our own would be a major concern especially after watching a number of YouTube videos and Tripadvisor reviews about the city and it's tourist spots...I was wrong. The experience was surprisingly and pleasingly memorable.

Getting to places we wanted to see or to meet up with organized tours at a given "meet up point" was easy even for people our age. Here are some tips:

1. Most important of all, KNOW where you want to go, beginning from your arrival at Keflavik Int'l Airport. Going from the airport to the city center is actually composed of two (2) rides: a big bus from the airport to their terminal/depot in the city; and a shuttle bus from the terminal to your desired destination or drop-off point.
2. Do PRIOR research on the various modes of transportation on how to get there (including how to get there on foot). Btw, Reykjavik has no trains or subways only buses and (terribly expensive) taxis.
3. For general directions, i found Google Maps to still be of tremendous help. If you do decide to go on foot, take heart. Street names are in English. It is also widely spoken so don't be afraid to ask.
4. Once you've determined where you want to go and decided to take the local yellow city bus, you may want to download their bus APP called STRAETO. This app will tell you: (a) how to get to your destination from your given location; (b) it identifies the nearest bus stop to your present location; (c) let's you buy your bus ticket through the app at a standard 470 ISK one way; (d) even tells you how lobg it takes before the bus arrives at your location.
5. If you don't have any access to the app, you can also: (a) buy the ticket at the bus BUT only with the exact amount. The driver has no change.; (b) buy a CITY CARD good for 1,2 or 3 days. This card also gives you access/entry to all of Reykavik's public
museums, geothermal pools and the Laugardalur Zoo; and (c) buy Straeto daily or 3-day passes.
6. Finally, you may also want to consider taking the "Hop On, Hop Off" buses w/c takes you to all the must-see sights in the city and let's you explore these at your own pace.

Enjoy Reykjavik...enjoy the Northern Lights!

Great overview of Reykjavik. History and sights.
Oct 2019
Our friendly tour guide, Lalli, from Funky Iceland led us on a 2.5 hour walking tour. We learned so much about Iceland and Reykjavik that we would have never known otherwise. The tour starts midway up Laugavegur and travels up to Hallgrimskirkja cathedral. The view from the bell tower is outstanding. From there we worked our way down to the Old Harbor, stopping along the way for interesting sights and information. I recommend taking this tour early in your stay in order to get the "lay of the land".

Great way to kick off a week in Iceland.
Sep 2019
We booked this tour on our first afternoon in Iceland after arriving that morning following an overnight flight. It was a great way to get a good feel for the city right away. There were only four people in our tour group plus our guide, Lalli from Funky Iceland. He was fun and informative and took us around to see all the best sites in the area, including the beautiful overhead view of the city from the top of the tall church in the middle of town. He provided great insight into the Icelandic culture as well as stories form it's past and hopes for it's future. We thought it was a fantastic way to start our week in Iceland. Thanks Lalli.

Guide packed in a lot of info about the history of Iceland as well as the culture. Gave us a great basis for our driving independently. Have taken walking tours in many countries. This was overpriced compared to all others.

A birds eye view of Reykjavik
Aug 2019
Excellent well informed guide. She spoke so clearly and waited for me as I am a bit slow in walking. She also took care of me in the Cathedral.
She was happy to share her knowledge and experiences living and working in Reykjavik. It is so important to gain that inside knowledge otherwise you could wander around and miss so much.
Thank you Adalheidor from Funky Iceland

Fantastic tour! Highly recommend
Jul 2019 • Friends
I did this tour with my parents (~70 yrs old) right after arriving in Iceland on our first afternoon. It was a great way to loosen up after the long trip, and to avoid getting tired before bedtime. Lalli was wonderful. He told us many interesting facts and the history of Reykjavik and beyond, while also regaling us with the stories and sagas of Iceland. It was clear he was a native Icelander and loves his country. We saw many of the key sites of Reykjavik and were able to get oriented to the city on our first day. We highly recommend this tour!

The history of Iceland in an afternoon
Jul 2019 • Family
How fortunate we were to book a walking tour with Lalli of Funky Iceland on our first afternoon. Lalli is funny and engaging and also very knowledgeable. From the history of Iceland to saving money in Reykjavík we spent a fascinating three hours with him (he was only meant to do two). He obviously loves his job and his subject and as a group aged from 18 to 58 we enjoyed every minute. We knew little about Iceland at the start and a lot more by the end. We recommend that everyone does this tour.
