Highlights
  • See South Iceland's highlights without having to drive yourself
  • Relax during the comfortable journey between sights
  • Get insights and cultural context from a guide
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
What to expect
  • Your tour begins with pickup from your Reykjavík hotel. Settle into the air-conditioned bus for the drive south, passing through the countryside to Skogafoss waterfall.  After snapping some pictures of the thundering 200-foot (60-meter) waterfall (seen in such movies as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), it's time for a lunch break (own expense) at a local restaurant. Fueled up, you'll travel east to the black-sand beach of Reynisfjara. Admire the stacks of basalt columns that wall off surrounding cliffs and watch the powerful Atlantic ocean waves crashing onto the shore.  Head back west to Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a 197-foot (60-meter) wall of water that you can actually walk behind—waterproof clothing is recommended. On a clear day, you'll also see the Hekla and Eyjafjallajokull volcanoes and the Westman Islands just offshore. Then, you'll settle back into the bus for the journey back to your Reykjavik hotel.

Choose Grey Line For A Perfect Experience
If you want a hassle-free trip, choose Gray Line. I initially booked 2 tours with a competitor and one of the tours was cancelled so I booked a similar tour with Gray Line (more on my experience with Gray Line below). I had to cancel an airport transfer with Gray Line and they were responsive and I can already see the credit in my account - thank you. As for the second tour with Gray Line’s competitor, it is scheduled for the day after I am writing this review, but this morning I get a call from them and stating they are waiting for me in front of my hotel, which is not my error and took time out of my day to sort out. Now as for Gray Line, I did the South Iceland tour and the day was perfect! Everything went according to plan. The guide is knowledgeable and gives you interesting information for each site. Once you arrive at the sites, you are free to explore as long as you return to the transport van by the time the guide specifies ahead of time. I like this format as there is no unnecessary chitchat or networking, just do as you choose.

Best Tour Of My Trip
We booked a 14 hour tour of the South Coast. Stops included Selfoss Waterfall, Diamond Beach, Laki Craters, and Glacier Lagoon (my absolute favorite part of my entire trip). Our guide was Brandon who was pleasant and very knowledgeable. Hemmi was our driver who was very experienced driving the coastal roads. These two guys made the tour what it is, Gray Line is lucky to have them. So much was packed into the 14 hours that punctuality was of the essence; they kept us on schedule. I would highly recommend this tour!

Thank you edodson630 for your very positive review of our Tour to the South Coast and Glacier Lagoon - the waterfalls are Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss that we visit enroute but then Selfoss is a town we drive through. The scenery enroute is a favorite of many of us in Iceland and we are glad to share this experience with our visitors. Your recommendation and compliments for our guide and driver are very much appreciated

Great experience with Grayline!
Sep 2020
Grayline is a great local tour in Iceland. Fast response, reliable, and reasonable price. I had the best tour guide for 3 days. He took very good care of me and gave an interesting explanation about Icelandic history. I have the best experience in Iceland because of Grayline private tour!! Will definitely buy tours with Grayline again.

Great tour to south coast of Iceland
Amazing experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had good sense of humor. The tour provides enough time at each stop to explore and enjoy the scenery.

Great guide, awesome sights!
Great trip with waterfalls, Vik Village & black sand beaches! Would recommend! The guide was very knowledgeable and gave lots of information throughout the journey. Got some great pictures. Would have liked longer on the glacier and shorter at the last waterfall (it was slippery at thus time of year so could only take a picture at the front). The glacier was an awesome sight & would have been great to explore longer! Great day out!

Thank you suzanney803 for writing your review and sharing your very nice photo with us of the rock stacks, the angle is very special. Glad you enjoyed the tour with us of the South coast and yes, a longer stop at the glacier is only possible with another of our excursions that include a glacier hike

Wild and bleak scenery of southern Iceland
Jan 2020
A fascinating trip of the southern landscape from Reyjavik. We went in late January when there is only 6 hours daylight. The tour itself last 11 hours so much of the journey outward and returning to Reyjavik is in darkness. Absolutely stunning and bleak terrain at this time of year.
The only drawback is the hours spent in the coach for which there is solution. So go if you are not worried by the length of time travelling and do not go if you hate being cooped up on a coach.

Beautiful scenery and well organized trip. Our tour guide was funny and very knowledgeable ( his Icelandic name means something like forest deer, but I can't remember, English version is Houser). I would highly recommend this tour.

Great guide bad planning
Dec 2019
South Coast Tour - this tour was more of a tour of other peoples tour departure points. We spent more time dropping off people for their excursions than we did actually at any of the points we were supposed to be viewing. The glacier for example, we dropped people here for glacial walking or some such activity in brilliant sunshine but couldn't get off the coach for photographs as we had to get on to the next drop off point for snowmobiling. By the time we stopped on the way back it was getting dark and raining. Likewise with one of the waterfalls, we drove past in brilliant sunshine but by the time we got back it was horizontal rain and dark so photography was virtually impossible. This is in no way a reflection on the guides or the drivers as all of them were excellent but we spent 11.5 hours in the coach and a total of 2.5 hours at any destinations 1 hour of which was for lunch!! Our enjoyment of the scenery and locations seemed to be at the detriment to those wishing to do other trips.

Well worth it - Very Proffesional organistaion
Jan 2020
Strongly recommend this company. Please note on all the trips we went on they pick you up at a designated place in a mini bus and take you to the depot to meet up with others and jump on board a coach ( due to the narrow streets it is easier for a mini bus). Excellent service. No complaints what so ever . A lot of time spent in the coach to get to your destinations but well worth it.A great informative guide. We saw alot of the Southern part of the coutry , Volcanoes , waterfalls., beaches glaciers . Fantastic scenery . Wellworth the money.

Very disappointed we saw 2 beaches and 2 waterfalls and not the glacier that I particularly wanted to see. The schedule said 15min stop and we stopped twice once to drop off walkers and the other time to pick them up!!! What about the others who specifically wanted to see the glacier????

We spent two stops and 90 mins on restroom and lunch- please consider your timings the last waterfall was barely visible by the time we got there.

Why put it in your schedule if we are not meant to see the glacier it was the main reason for booking the tour!!!!
