We did the Food Lovers tour our first night in Iceland and it was a great introduction to the city, the people and the culture. Our guide was Iris and one of our favorite things about the tour were her stories of the places we visited from the perspective of someone who had grown up there. The food was delicious and plentiful and Iris enhanced our experience with cooking tips and family traditions surrounding the food we were eating. The tour was also a great orientation to the city and Iris provided many suggestions for things we could do with our remaining days in Reykjavik. She is also an opera singer and we encouraged her to write a song about the wonderful Icelandic hot dog which we expect to hear on a future visit! This was the perfect tour to begin our Iceland experience.

I went on the food tour with the two most amazing guides Hanna and Tina. They were both so friendly, funny and full of life which made the tour that much more enjoyable.
We walked to a few different food places in the city, stopping by at different areas for some cool facts and inside info!
We tried traditional Icelandic food and the famous hotdog ‘with everything on it’.
It was a small group of people which gave us plenty of time to talk about the food and for Hanna and Tina to share stories with us as we ate. They recommended places to visit around Iceland and very useful info for our stay.
If you’re considering a food tour then THIS IS THE ONE! Absolutely worth it and I would definitely recommend this to all my friends and family!

This tour is a must if you want to sample the variety of foods Iceland has to offer in one quick trip.
If you read all the reviews, yeah, they're small appetizer sized...but you're going to multiple destinations. If you had 4 or 5 full course meals, you wouldn't even be able to walk afterwards. The pacing of the tour is fine as you're not rushed through any destination, and our guide Bardi was very personable and at no time did he seem disinterested in any of our questions.
Also, one plus about this tour company, they sent a nice e-mail with various suggestions, which turns out we wound up going to a couple. So, their engagement with the customer after the end of the tour makes them a company you'd want to look at.

The food and restaurant selections were disappointing. One of the four stop was the "famous" hot dog stand for a hot dog. The last restaurant was out of one of the components of the tasting, and the first served the wrong item. The 10 items mentioned in the description must have included each individual bite.
The guide was uninspired and wasn't able to answer questions about Icelandic beer.
While some of the issues may have been a bad day, the hot dog was an absurd inclusion in the itinerary.

A lovely, small and personal tour. Our guide shared lots of information about Reykjavik, Iceland and local restaurants. When she found out everyone on the tour liked cats, she took us to a shop with a resident cat and told us Icelandic cat lore. We learned a lot, food tours are such a great introduction to a city and it's history.

Don’t worry I’ll get to the shark in a minute.
Our guide was amazing. He was early to the meeting place. Had identification and quickly started conversation making us feel comfortable. We walked from restaurant to restaurant and he gave us additional history of different buildings, restaurants, monuments, etc. super informative I was impressed. The food. Awesome. Not all of it is for our taste however it was all so interesting to know the history and why it was on part of the tour. We started with what I’ve heard so much about. Smoked puffin..... also FYI if you are vegan or vegetarian this tour is not for you. We had some of the local foods at some of the local tourist spots as well as the places the locals go. It was a nice mix of pandering to our obvious tourist behavior and excitement to visit the whole in the wall we would never think of trying. Our guide was helpful, took pictures and advised on additional trips and tours we could go on that he wasn’t a part of just so that we maximized our vacation. And yes... the shark. Fermented shark. Try it if you dare.

We took the food tour on our very first day in Iceland, which turned out to be a great way to be introduced to Icelandic food and culture from the start. Bardi was a wonderful guide, teaching us not only about Icelandic food, including his own experiences with the food growing up, but also Icelandic history as well. The food was a nice mix of traditional foods that were delicious, like plockfish and lamb stew, and traditional foods that we probably would not have had otherwise, like fermented shark. We used the discount code in our Rick Steves guide to get a small discount on the price of the tour.

I give this a solid good experience. I believe our interpretation of foodlovers is different than what they advertised. We had an expectation that this would be a true food lovers tour of wine/drink pairing sit down at a 3-4 restaurants, it was not.

It was a tour of bar food. The guide was kind & charming. He knew a lot of history and we tasted local bar food, meaning food that you get at the bar vs a nice restaurant. Bar food, beers, hot dogs were not what we expected yet it was interesting. The last stop was fun and wish we knew so we could have stayed to have a proper meal

This is group walking tour and a progressive dinner of traditional Icelandic food. The first stop is for with lobster soup at Seabaron, a well known spot. Next are lamb hot dogs with all the trimmings from the famous Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur stand at the second. At the third there was lamb stew. Finally, we had a tiny piece of fermented shark, a filling cod/potato dish, Brennivin (Iceland schnapps) and dessert at the fourth restaurant. The rye bread ice cream was surprisingly good. The food was decent, the guide was informative, the experience was fun, and it was good to explore Reykjavik on foot. The website said we were to try puffin and reindeer, but neither was offered perhaps because they were not in season.

We did the tour on our day of arrival, and even though we were exhausted and jet-lagged, it was an invaluable introduction to Iceland. Of course the food and the experiences were fun and interesting, however, the most exceptional factor of the tour was our guide, Bardi. He was an amazing ambassador to Iceland, and I felt from the first second we met him, that he was a friend. I will never forget Bardi. I would recommend this tour to anyone, and I would especially suggest that you request a time when Bardi is conducting it.
