Great way to taste and learn about the Icelandic grub!
Tanja Líf was a great tour guide and full of energy! We had a great time visiting four restaurants (and one bonus place) trying some traditional Icelandic dishes which were all lovely. It’s a great way to experience, taste and learn about the cuisine. You get a decent amount of food and I was full up by the end. Would recommend!

    Fabulous food tour
Solveig our tour guide was fabulous very knowledgeable and she made our walkabout very interesting. The food was great ( apart from the fermented shark 🤢🤣) We were in restaurants that we would never have found on our own. I would highly recommend this tour and hopefully you will be as lucky as we were with your guide.

    Must do!
We did the tour which started at 4.00 pm having had a good breakfast at the hotel but no lunch, we were so glad! The food we tried was all really delicious (except the shark,😆) and there was plenty of it. Tanja, our guide for the evening was excellent, very entertaining without trying too hard. She answered all our questions and made us all feel comfortable as a group, therefore the tour provided more than just an insight into Icelandic food and culture, memories were made. I can thoroughly recommend this tour and if possible I would recommend you do it at the start of your visit, you’ll be glad of the knowledge in advance of which restaurants you’d like to return to!

A great start to a trip
Heidi was our exceptional guide for the evening. I sampled foods/drinks that I may not have ordered without her recommendations. The choices were fabulous. Also, she elevated our experience by sharing fun facts of Iceland's history and traditions. It was a fun and engaging way to start my trip. Heidi is truly a gem.

    Worth every penny
Had a blast! Heidi is awesome & knowledgeable. She answered every question we had about Iceland and she's super sweet. The food & atmosphere in every restaurant was amazing! We really enjoyed the others in the group too. Everyone was so friendly and made the tour even more fun. If you can, do this tour. It's worth it.

    Amazing Food Tour
What a fantastic experience. Andre our tour guide was not only knowledgeable, but very entertaining as well. We ate Arctic Char and a Cod dish I can’t pronounce, plus lamb stew, the “World’s best hot dog,” according to Bill Clinton (for what that’s worth), fermented shark, rye bread ice cream and more. The fermented shark was more of a tourist hazing, but the rest of the food was incredible!

Tasty times with Tanja on our food tour
What do you get when you mix humour, knowledge and kindness? TANJA our exceptional guide. This tour was a delicious delight start to finish. She was welcoming and well informed. Tanja showed great care and good humour. This was my first day in Reykjavik and I came for my birthday. She showed us around with enthusiasm, energy and endless cheer. The locations were excellent choices. There were always chkices to suit different dietary requirements. I loved the chard and the fish stew. I also adored the rye bread icecream. We saw enough of the city to become familiar with it and her tour was pepered with a wealth of useful and unique information about Iceland. In addition we had enough time as a group to chat and connect. I feel that I left my first day in the country with a strong understanding of the food traditions and culture and unexpectedly a lot of information about the city. Tanja ensured a recipe for success with this tour.

    Over and above caring people
Sadly, we weren't able to take our planned tour as tragically, my wife passed away on the flight to Iceland, however, every person I dealt with here was over and above nice, caring and accommodating so much I sorely wish we were able to make it. They graciously made space for us when booking the tour on a date that was fully booked to accommodate our schedule, and then following the tragedy just as graciously cancelled and refunded our booking. I would book without hesitance another tour with this company

    Minty is the best!
Minty was our guide for the Reykjavík food tour recently and we had the best time! This is the perfect way to kick off your first trip to the city as it helps you get a sense of where you are and where you want to go. The amount of food we had at five different places, and learning the history of the local cuisine made this tour an incredible bargain. We were obsessed with the fish mash at messin and went back the next day, and I’ll be dreaming of the rye bread ice cream we had at Cafe Loki. Minty was kind and informative and made everyone feel included and gave us a lot of laughs. We feel so lucky to have been placed with the group we were with. Thanks for the memories!

Great sampling of local food and drink at some really cool spots. Jenny was fantastic, full of energy, always smiling and brought such an awesome vibe to the tour. We definitely lucked out with our group and Jenny as our guide. Would definitely recommend the tour and Jenny for as long as she’s there! Best of luck in NY Jenny!!

I cannot say enough good things about this tour. I will start with how incredible and responsive the staff is about any questions or concerns you may have. We had 1 afternoon available in order to do the tour on our visit. Unfortunately the only slot open started at 12:30 and their 1:30 slot was not open for that day. Since we had already booked a lava tube tour for that morning we were afraid we may not make it back in time. Therefore, I emailed and asked their advice if they felt we would be able to make it. Their response time was incredible and just so we wouldn't stress, they were able to open the 1:30 time slot to fit us in. Already a great feeling and haven't even started the tour.
The tour itself is Amazing! The food is delicious and believe me you will not leave hungry - these are good size portions with a very relaxed atmosphere. Our guide, Gudny was extremely knowledgeable, personable and would answer any question whether food related or not.
What makes this tour stand out even more is the fact that while you are walking around from restaurant to restaurant you get a mini tour of the city. I learned so many fun facts about Reykjavik - it really is 2 tours in one. For those who are wondering the walking was not difficult and not once do you feel rushed. Please book this tour, you will not regret it, and ask for Gudny.

Went on the Food Walk tour on the 2nd of March with our guide Eyglo
She is an amazing guide with a wealth of knowledge of all things Icelandic and a wonderful personality.
Loved all the food but didn’t try the shark due to the smell and the reactions of other people on the tour.
Loved all the other food especially the Artic Char with honey and Almonds at Messin and the Dessert at Apotec
I would highly recommend the Reykjavik Food Walk tour with Eyglo as your guide,it was so much fun with delicious food and the walking was a wonderful way to introduce you to the city of Reykjavik

My partner and I took our first food tour in 2016 and were eager to return as Iceland began to reopened. I’m happy to report that the experience was and is as enjoyable and flavorful as ever. We were Dave’s first solo tour and he did an exceptional job. With a mish mash of Americans from various places and stages of life, he was able to connect with everyone and facilitate an engaging experience. The evening tour we took was a bit different than our initial afternoon based experience, but still thoroughly entertaining. It definitely centers on icelandic cuisine so expect fish and lamb aplenty! Some of the restaurants were new but others were a welcome return, so all in all a good mix. Dan also went above and beyond for us behind the Scenes by making restaurant recommendations and booking a special birthday reservation for us!
Egill remains a 🤴🏻! Whether this is your first or tenth visit to Reykjavík, this is the food tour you should do.

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Reykjavik, it was a great way to try a variety of the local cuisine. You better go hungry though as you get generous portions at each of the 5 different stops. Maggie did an awesome job and we appreciated the recap of the restaurants and other helpful information she provided.

We had an amazing food tour with Wake Up Reykjavik! The food selected for the visit was top notch and with Ben as our guide, we had an informative, entertaining and simply enjoyable tour of food and the city. I highly recommend the Reykjavik food Walk to get a sample of Icelandic cuisine (lamb, fish, and other treats - my favorite was the dessert at the very last stop) and tour some wonderful sights around the city- an easy way to kill two birds with one stone! If the price of the food tour is at all a deterrent, don’t let it be, you will get enough food to fill you up and I’m sure you would not be able to get this variety at this cost in any other way.
I like doing food tours as a way of getting acquainted with a city, and this is one of my absolute favorites after the many I have been on - we had a great guide and food!

Food! Is there a better way to explore and get to know a new place, a new culture, a new country?

The Reykjavik Food Walk is a perfect way to spend a few hours exploring the city and sampling the cuisine. Three-hours may seem like a lot, but the time flew by.

Our guide for the day was Karen, who was so friendly, open and funny. She was an excellent guide. We stopped off at five locations.

Our group sampled a variety of things, including the (in)famous fermented shark and the cod jerky. Both were quirky and something that tourists just need to sample.

However, the best dishes (for me) were the classic and rustic plokkfiskur (fish mash), rye bread ice-cream and a local beer.

My husband and I loved the plokkfiskur so much, we went back and had it a second time during our trip.

Many thanks to Karen and the Reykjavik Food Walk for a great time.

We took the tour today and I have to say it was the most wonderful and delightful experience, and certainly enhanced our visit to this amazing country. The eateries we visited were very well chosen and I believe reflected exactly what the tour promotes. However, it has to be said that a tour of any kind can be significantly effected by the guide, and today we were fortunate to have Tinna. She provide so much information on the history and culture of Iceland and it's food that we definately understood about the meals and ingredients, not just the flavours, which were by the way superb. This included some personal family stories to explain key elements that we may not otherwise have understood as fully. We learnt so much and enjoyed the variety of food and the culture over hundreds of years and were all the richer for it. Nothing was too much trouble as we made our way through each course and specific dietery needs and requests were met with ease and care. Iceland is known for its fire and ice, but today took us beyond that in a way I was not expecting. I will go back to England in a few days time very much more informed about a wonderful country and it's people with a passion and desire to return and experience it all again.

We joined the Food Walk on our first day in Reykjavík and it proved an ideal intro to the city and to some of the variety of food which it offers. Liked the fish and the hotdog and the ice cream but everything we were offered was worth sampling. Eyglo, our guide, also found time to tell us some interesting facts about life in Iceland and we learned a little about which restaurants we might subsequently wish to visit. It was fun to meet others visiting Reykjavík too and hear their experiences, Highly recommended!

Very much enjoyed the food walk tour with Karen as our guide. Gave us a chance to try different types of Icelandic food with real sized portions. After the tour, we even actually went back on our own to one of the restaurants we had stopped at on the tour because we liked the food that we had tried.

Karen was absolutely terrific in giving us insight into the food as well as general information on Iceland. She also helped us with adjusting our tour reservation for our daughter who wasn't feeling well which was greatly appreciated. Would not hesitate to recommend this tour!
