What to expect
Travel north in a comfortable climate-controlled minivan, crossing Sydney Harbour Bridge and driving for about 45 minutes until you enter Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. In the national park, your first stop is West Head lookout, a spot with sweeping views of Broken Bay, Pittwater and  Barrenjoey Headland's historic sandstone lighthouse. Hear stories about shipwrecks, pirates, smugglers, escaped convicts and the park’s importance during World War II. From afar, admire the beaches of the central coast and Lion Island, site of the largest population of little penguins in the Sydney area. From your guide, learn about the Guringai people — the original residents of this region. Hear interpretations of Aboriginal customs and Dreamtime stories that speak of the origins of the world. Then take a guided walk around a remote Aboriginal heritage site that contains some of Australia's most important ancient rock carvings. Drive to Akuna Bay for a 2.5-hour cruise through the park's remote waterways. From the 50-foot catamaran, look for exotic birds and marine life. You'll also come across one of Sydney’s most inaccessible waterfalls and pass by Aboriginal heritage sites that are only accessible from the water. While on-board, watch a 1-hour cultural presentation that includes hands-on Aboriginal skill demonstrations of the didgeridoo, hunting spears, woomera (spear-throwing device), fire making and more. Warm up with morning and afternoon tea, and get a taste of the nation's snack foods when your guide breaks out some classic local treats. Recharge with a hearty lunch of typical Australian fare that features flavors found in bush tucker (food harvested in the wilderness). Tea, snacks and lunch are included. Your tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Sydney, ending with your return in the late afternoon.

Cancelled on short notice without explanation
Feb 2020
Having planned this activity in advance, it was disappointing to receive a cancellation notice without any explanation as I was gearing up to leave. My travel schedule was very tight and getting short notice cancellation introduced undue stress. Anyway, it worked out for the better as I booked wonderful Sydney area experiences with another tour operator. So, it worked out.

A day away from the city
Jan 2020
This was a nice day away from the city. The only drawback on our tour was we were not able to do the short walking tour due to the high fire risk. Therefore we had a longer cruise. Paul taught the people on the boat about the aboriginal people of Ku-ring-gai and their history. The boat slowed down so we could see some of the caves up close. These tours are limited to 22 people so it is not crowded. The day was interesting. There are many places to sit on the boat. During the way back on the cruise Paul brought out many items that the Aboriginal people used. One item in particular was the didgeridoo and some of the men tried to blow in it.
Lunch was provided which was a baguette. We were also offered water on the bus.
We were also offered a banana in the morning. We had lunch on the boat where juice and water was provided. My only suggestion would be is to have a treat after lunch maybe a cookie?

Super day out
Dec 2019
Thank you Paul for a wonderful day out. All the trip was so interesting, finding out about the aboriginal culture and seeing the rock carvings and paintings. Everything was so well presented including the on board videos and photographs, and seeing the park from the water was very impressive.

Untouched Beauty
Sep 2019
What an amazing day out! You really get a taste of the Sydney landscape when the first fleet arrived. Loved the boat trip so special to experience such unspoilt beauty. I felt very privileged to see the fascinating rock carvings. There was 13 people on the tour all from overseas except me from Melbourne. I would highly recommend for International tourists and other Australians. Unless you have a friend with a boat in this area it is a place you will never see - and even then you wouldn't see the rock carvings. All great, lunch consisted of a large yummy baguette. Paul was a fun host. Highly recommend!

Beautiful sceneries, educational, and delicious lunch
Sep 2019
My husband and I participated in the tour in early September, just missed a rainy week according to our guide. Our group was not too big (8 people not including our guide; I appreciate the more personal setting since we got to know one another better and ask our guide questions anytime.) We learned a lot about the aboriginal people of Ku-ring-gai and their history. The stone carvings and paintings were impressive and natural sceneries down the river was gorgeous. The delicious sandwiches and drinks provided during the cruise was a plus :) I would highly recommend signing up for this tour!

Pros & Cons of this trip
Aug 2019 • Family
Pros- Beautiful trip through the forest and river area. Way better than the Blue Mountains. Most amazing outing on our trip to Sydney. Aboriginal Carvings - fascinating! We had an archeologist from the states on our tour and everything Paul stated was backed up by her.

Cons- A bit too much talking for my taste as I prefer more taking in the sites. Bus is not great for tall people. Food - would advise bringing your own lunch and snack or having more choices offered. Got started almost an hour late waiting for someone due to a miscommunication.

A lovely experience to spend the day cruising the Hawkesbury river and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Thank you to the indigenous community for allowing us access to
this amazing environment. Despite the weather what a day. Highlight of the day my husband rocking out on the didgeridoo. Thanks to Paul you really have found a hidden gem on Sydney's door step.

Thank you Paul. We can’t praise your tour enough. This was a wonderful introduction to aboriginal culture and outback flora. The water excursion was unforgettable especially the rock painting. Likewise the carvings were stupendous.
