Life-changing experience, what a priviledge!
Jun 2021
This tour was a life-changing experience and I felt so privileged and grateful to have had this holiday.

Our tour guides, Jay and Robert, were abundantly passionate and knowledgeable about the region and made us all feel safe, entertained, educated and really cared about as they looked after all aspects of the tour.

They were both fantastic cooks and catered for my vegetarian diet with tasty and nutritious food.

Our tour had to be modified at the last minute due to COVID restrictions and the tour guides worked tirelessly to ensure we still had a quality experience.

Being in the Kakadu bush was an absolute highlight. Going on bushwalks, swimming in waterholes, looking at wildlife and discovering ancient aboriginal art. The tour was well-organised, comfortable and relaxing the whole time. I enjoyed the tour so much, I would consider doing it again.

Kakadu Legends

What an amazing tour. Our hosts Jay and Robert began by telling us that we were family, for the next 5 days... and that's how it felt. We were treated to an expert tour, with both Jay's and Robert's enthusiam, extensive knowledge, sense of fun and love of the outback both informing and rubbing off on the whole group. Indigenous Culture and ancient rock painting, Birdlife, crocs, plantlife , wonderful walks, swimming holes (no crocs in those 🙂) expert driving, exceptional organisation and fantastic meals are what Jay and Robert can offer (Robert is a born storyteller). As we were there, Kakadu went into Covid lockdown, but not only did Jay and Robert provide us with amazing alternatives to our cancelled plans, but ensured that everyone was able to catch flights home or get to hotels, with no problems.
This will remain a great memory. Thanks Jay and Robert

Unforgettable intro to the top end
Jul 2021
I was lucky enough to join a tour with Jay Bichard and Robert Herzog right after the Darwin covid19 lockdown lifted. My tour with another company had been cancelled during the lockdown, and I booked with wayoutback without doing much research about them, which could have been a disaster!
On the contrary, Jay and Rob were entertaining, knowledgeable, attentive and enthusiastic. The jam packed itinerary hits most of the highlights in the area, making it difficult to pick a favorite! The days are long to cover so much in so little time, but the campsites are very comfortable and clean (lack of research = pleasently surprised), and Jay and Rob prepared delicous food so that we could relax/recuperate for the next day ahead. Every early morning was justified (reaching secluded water falls before the crowds is well worth it!), you can sleep in when you get home :) I would highly recommend to anyone looking to get their first taste of the beautiful top end.

A tour to remember.
Jul 2021
I've not long completed a 5 Day 4WD Jabiru Dreaming Top End Safari. It was just a wonderful opportunity to experience some of what the Top End has to offer. Our guides Jay and Robert excelled at their craft. Their knowledge, willingness to meet the needs of the customer combined with their cooking, guiding and entertaining abilities combined, made for a wonderful tour. Additionally, their enthusiasm, energy and commitment to giving the best service possible was appreciated. I highly recommend any tour Jay and or Robert lead, as I know you would receive the best service possible. Pauline Smith

Jay and Robert were fantastic in looking after us, making sure that we all enjoyed our holiday. Both are good cooks, helpful, patient (even if we were a bit late), knowledgeable and willingly shared what they know. They are both very knowledgeable.

Jay and Robert led by example uniting the group.

I highly recommend any tour with Jay and/or Robert. Both are extremely nice human beings, patient and caring.

Kakadu Legends “ Tour of Friends”
Jun 2021 • Family
What a fabulous experience! My son ( 14) and I had the most wonderful 5 Days with an extraordinary group of people ( all ages) led by two inspiring young guides Jay and Rob who are totally immersed and energised by the wonder of the Top End, it’s ancient culture and beauty. One cannot help but get caught up in the avalanche of “ being in the moment in awe of this land “.. toss in great company, lots of laughs , great food and new friends .. the covid Kakadu lockdown experience was a joy .. we were fortunate to see do much more of this extraordinary place and have additional adventures. Thank you Jay , Rob and this fab group of 13. I know we will stay in touch and maybe seek out mew adventures together.

Way Into Adventure with Way Outback Tours
Jun 2021 • Solo
Each day of the 5 day tour brought adventure, fun, laughter, amazing experiences on walks and lots of local information and cultural gems. The tour was definitely made even more special by our tour guides and skilled drivers Jay Bichard and Robert Herzog.
Multi tasking is their fortè and they were diligent in ensuring everyone was comfortable, included and safe for the whole tour.
I loved every minute and will be back for another explore soon!

Amazing experience
Jun 2021
We travelled in June 2021. WayOutback were very accommodating of the uncertainty due to covid travel restrictions, and our tour guide Josh was able to adjust our tour and help us work around the Darwin lockdown. We really appreciated having Josh, as a local, as our guide, his knowledge and experience really enhanced our experience. His respect for and connection with the indigenous community was very obvious. There was no question he couldn't answer, he was terrific in engaging with our teenagers, and he was able to plan our activities to best suit the weather and avoid the crowds, giving us the best opportunities in some magical spots. Food was generous, fruit and snacks provided, water always available, camping grounds with pools and bars exceeded our expectations. Tents and beds comfortable. Lack of air-conditioning on the truck right from day 1 was the only problem, and Josh did his best to alleviate this.

Great tour - fantastic sites - great guide
Jun 2021
We travelled in late June 2021 and had Josh Evans as our guide. Whilst Darwin went into lockdown during our visit and Kakadu was effectively 'shut down' for entry and exit, we were luck to already be 'in' the park. Josh was terrific at being flexible around what we could and couldn't do and facilitated a return to Darwin Airport so that we could transit through to Melbourne.

We got through most of the tour but missed the Katherine part (about the last day and a half). Josh made sure we were kept busy with additional sites within Kakadu but he also allowed us plenty of time to organise new flights, cancel other accommodation etc.

The tour we managed was great. Tents are basic but beds are comfortable. There is no power to the tents so make sure you bring your torch. Food was terrific and plentiful. There was plenty of time to enjoy the overnight locations which, at both Cooinda and Kakadu Lodge had great pool areas. The tour sites were all great with Maguk Falls being a particular favourite of mine.

Josh was very knowledgeable and willing to share. Josh has a great passion for what he does and has a connection with the First Nations people as well as country.

I would complement the company and Josh for their management during the COVID-19 pandemic, including allowing 3 reshedules of our trip but also for management during the lockdown that happened whilst we were there.

I would recommend the tour to anyone interested.

My only real criticism is for our vehicle. It had problems with its air-con from the very start - it was also one of the older trucks which was not as comfortable as some of the newer ones. I would encourage the company owners to focus on the required spend to ensure there trucks are all in FULL working order before being used on for a tour. Again, Josh did his best with a portable fan of his own - but he should not have to go to extra effort with his own assets/devices - the company should ensure things are working in the first place.
