Itinerary
After pickup from the centrally located meeting point on in Melbourne, travel by comfortable modern mini-buses about one hour through the Dandenong Ranges, known for cool-climate rainforest and extensive Eucalyptus forests.

First, you’ll visit the Healesville Sanctuary, one of the best places in Victoria to see and interact with native Australian wildlife. You’ll walk with your guide through a stunning bushland setting where you can see wombats, birds of prey, platypus, wallabies and other amazing animals that are native to Australia. Hear about the Sanctuary’s efforts to fight wildlife extinction and commitment to treating more than 2,000 sick and injured native animals each year.

Be sure to check out the unrivaled "Spirit of the Sky" bird of prey and parrot show where birds show off the skill we admire most, their ability to fly. Once you have enjoyed all Healesville Sanctuary has to offer, you’ll re-board your mini-bus and head to the Puffing Billy Steam Train in Belgrave.

Climb aboard the century-old steam train, maintained in mint condition by dedicated volunteers. The Puffing Billy still runs on its own mountain track between Belgrave and Gembrook, through the heart of the rainforest. Travel back in time as you chug through the gorgeous Sherbrooke Forest waving at friendly bystanders as you go.

In the late afternoon you’ll be returned to Flinders Street in Melbourne where your tour ends.

Puffing Billy Steam Train and Healesville Sanctuary

I actually booked the tour for Saturday, 8th September. However, since they couldn't reach the minimum numbers to guarantee departure, they offered me to move the date. Which is a blessing in disguise since there are fewer people during weekdays compared to weekends. Our tour...More

Great for the BIG kids!

We went as part of an organised group. Organisation was perfect almost. Seated and read for the ride in short time. Enjoyed the trip although a lot of it is between trees so views not great. Good look around the engines at the end stop.

Nice tour for wildlife and trip to the country with Steam Train

This was a very good tour and we enjoyed it, but since we had other tours that visited the same area (Yarra Valley wine tour) and saw wildlife in the wild as well as in another zoo facility, it was not our favorite in Melbourne....More
