What to expect
  • The Kiwi Birdlife Park, a 5-acre (2-hectare) wildlife park conveniently located in central Queenstown, offers a family-friendly experience. With your all-day admission ticket, explore the park at your own pace and make use of a complimentary audio tour to learn about the attractions.  At the New Zealand Conservation Show, held twice daily in an outdoor area enclosed in netting, birds like the kakariki (a type of parakeet) and the kereru, or New Zealand pigeon, can fly free. You can also get an up-close look at birds of prey, and learn about pateke (a type of duck), buff weka (a flightless bird) and Antipodes Island parakeets.  Head to the Tuatara Encounter, where you’ll come in contact with a prehistoric lizard that is sometimes referred to as a living dinosaur. Step into specially designed nocturnal enclosures for optimal viewing of kiwi birds, New Zealand’s national bird. Witness kiwi feedings and learn about the flightless birds’ underground burrows where they prefer to sleep during daylight hours.  Take a forest walk past trout-filled streams and hear about the park’s conservation efforts, which include rehabilitation of injured wildlife and the breeding of kiwis for release in the wild. When hunger calls, you can purchase light meals and snacks at the on-site cafe.

A very special experience
Oct 2021
Make a point of going to a kiwi feeding. It's the first time I've ever seen a nocturnal house where the glass partitions are only part way up, so there's a degree of not being completely separated from the kiwi. The keeper placed the food in a location where I was only maybe 10cm away from a kiwi being able to watch it for a long period of time. That experience alone was worth the entrance fee, and very special.
The conservation show is also a must, the opportunity to get up close with a tuatara (no touching) with no glass partition was a real treat.
The staff were lovely, very dedicated to their birds/reptiles, and it was very disappointing to learn they get no funding at all for the incredible work they do, so are reliant on visitors and donations. This is one attraction that's well worth visiting, and you're supporting a necessary service at the same time.

Wonderful way to spend an afternoon
This was the most fun we've had in ages. We spent a whole afternoon wandering around the park. A highlight was definitely seeing the Kiwi birds so clearly. We also loved the cheeky Kea bird who made our day 😀. The staff were so friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Try and catch the Kiwi encounter and the conservation show if you can. Being a local Southlander, I can't believe we didn't do this sooner.

Absolutely Wonderful
Sep 2021
We were able to get so much closer to the birds than we had expected. Highly recommend looking at their daily schedule so you can check out the Kiwi Encounter (watch them be fed) and the conservation show. Wonderful experience we'll always treasure, our favourites were the playful Kea, the cute Moreporks, and the iconic Kiwi.

Unheralded Gem - highly recommended
Last minute decision, but a very good one. Large selection of birds including kiwi's, in great surrounding's, added with their conservation focus, a very good few hours in the centre of Queenstown. A must visit.

Blah blah blah filling up the word requirements.

Best private tour and a highlight of the trip
My family and I decided to do a private tour, in part due to scheduling of other activities. We were not disappointed. We were lucky enough to get Paul the General Manager as our guide. Paul has a wonderful enthusiasm for all things conservation and its clear that he is passionate about how the Birdlife Park can support the conservation of endangered birds and support Predator Free NZ by 2050. We loved meeting all the birds, but the kiwis were of course the greatest hits. We even got an extra special treat to see some young kiwis up close. We also enjoyed meeting a tuatara up close. Finally, we enjoyed a delicious honey tasting to round off the morning. Our thanks to Paul and the team for a great visit and a highlight of the holiday.

Great activity!
The park is amazing, you can tell the staff really cares about the conservation of kiwis and other birds. Very informative, the audio tour is very nice. Kiwis were awesome, I got to see when they were feeding them, they are quite messy by the way haha. I recommend doing this, good to contribute to the conservation of NZ’s birdlife. Also, honey tasting was delightful! Very friendly and lovely staff!

See kiwis and contribute to their protection
May 2021 • Couples
It's the only way to see kiwis and you will contribute to their protection with your tickets! The park is taking really good care of the birds, reintroducing them into the wild. We learnt a lot with the audio-guide and the shows. The gift shop has many unique souvenirs. Highly recommended!

Go while its cheap
We paid almost half the pre covid price and this seemed fair and comparable with similar attractions in Christchurch. Definitely go to the conservation show (though there was no falcon unfortunately). The kiwi are more active immediately after feeding time. Helpful staff. The Maori content should be removed until it can be done meaningfully, which they are saving up for.
