What to expect
  • This half- or full-day Washington, DC photo safari begins in the morning with a 45-minute orientation. Whether shooting as a novice or an expert, learn essential tips for capturing the best in every image, regardless of the type of camera being used — from a high-end DSLR to a smartphone, tablet and anything in between. Learn how to properly compose a photo and how to shoot in all lighting conditions. Master shutter speed, F-stop, white balance, ISO settings and more, if applicable. The hands-on guidance during this opening session is worth the price of admission itself. But that’s only the beginning. Now it’s time to put this valuable knowledge into good practice. And what better subject matter than the world-famous memorials and monuments of our nation’s capital? On the half-day tour, capture the morning light as it shines on the White House and Lafayette Square. Experiment with a variety of angles while taking pictures of the Albert Einstein Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Then get some action shots of bustling Union Station as pedestrians hurriedly come and go just before lunch time. On the full-day tour, enjoy the same morning photo experience, then grab a bite to eat at Union Station (own expense). After lunch, drive to the US Botanic Gardens to capture flowers and plants in a greenhouse, and photograph the adjoining US Capitol building in the afternoon sun. The tour then goes on  to the colorful and architecturally diverse Adams-Morgan neighborhood, as you try your hand at abstract photography. Continue on to the magnificent Washington National Cathedral. Here, you will learn how to photograph stained-glass windows and church interiors and exteriors. After the tour, your instructor drops you off at the nearby Tenleytown Metro station.

Wash DC photo safari-monuments etc
Aug 2021
Great time with David-excellent review of camera and light, etc. basics, then some "practice" both inside and outside. He also advised me about future camera needs and purchases. I highly recommend this tour.

We greatly appreciate this kind review from a person who is just getting back into photography as a hobby with great enthusiasm, which is typical of many of our clients. With a few hours of training by us, a customer can rediscover the joys of photography.

Amazing

David was so kind and patient as he explained the camera functions and photography. He also reviewed my camera bag with me and made great suggestions for improvements. Beside going to various monuments where I was able to try out some new camera functions that he went over, he also shared his knowledge of the monuments and landmarks. If you are visiting Washing DC and would like to learn more about photography and the area, you definitely would want to consider this tour. I enjoyed every minute and learned a lot. Looking forward to trying out some of the more advanced camera functions.

Outstanding!
I've taken several classes from photo safari already.

The first photo safari I took was over 14 years ago. I first I learned how to shoot down at the Tidal Basin in Washington DC during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Needless to say David, who was the instructor on this tour was outstanding and provided me a lot of insight and best practices.

History in HD with David Luria
May 2021
I booked this for my husband, who has a nice camera but could never get off the "Auto" setting! He thoroughly enjoyed it and learned how to truly start using his camera the right way.
David made learning so enjoyable and interesting that the time just flew by. It was one of the highlights of our DC trip, and resulted in some great pictures to take home with us!

If you live anywhere near DC, you need to do this. If you don't live near DC, you need to do this!

Living near DC, an iconic place to photograph AND having David Luria by your side is a winning combination. He not only makes suggestions on angels, composition, colors, lighting, etc., he also teaches you about aspects of your camera you may not have known. His decades of experience as a professional photographer shines through. Such a great tour by an amazing instructor. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to improve skills or just enjoy DC monuments!

We appreciate this review because it urges people who live in the Dc area to out and appreciate Dc through the lens of their camera! About 75% of our clients are local residents, many of who have never taken the time to smell the roses and see the sights in their own backyard. DC is a very photogenic city and we are proud to show it off to local residents and visitors alike

David Luria is an outstanding tour guide and instructor. An excellent professional photographer and professional guide. He presents complicated photography instruction in a highly accessible and friendly manner, and provides interesting background on the objects of our photography while we are at it.

We appreciate these comments. We feel that the more a person knows about the subject, the better their pictures can be. For example, knowing that the three soldiers in the Three Servicemen Statue who are looking at the Vietnam Memorial are seeing their own names on the wall helps to make one's pictures more dramatic.

Individual attention in small group photo safari of DC icons
Oct 2019
I was expecting to join a bunch of photographers and was pleasantly surprised to find myself as one of a few, so we all got individual attention based on our skill level. I liked the handouts, the practical hands on learning, the expertise, and the DC National Mall subject matter.

Learn more in one day than in years before with David
Oct 2019
This was a great day: i learnt so much about photography, the right angle, the right composition, the right settings on my camera and what to avoid, but also saw Washington from an insider's view, and last but not least got to know some amazing pieces out of the great life story of David. I enjoyed every minute!
THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH! It was an inspirational day

Fantastic way to see DC and learn how to take better photos!
Jun 2019 • Family
My 14-year-old son and I took the class a week ago and it was a fantastic way to spend a half day. We learned so much about how to take better photographs and the hands-on format was great! David is very knowledgeable, patient. He is a great instructor! As someone who has lived in DC for 25+ years, it was a great way to see the monuments and learn a bit more about their history. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in photography and seeing a bit of DC!
