- laurarigbyrn00U Street Food TourOur tour guide, Soneta, was well versed on the history in and around the U Street area. The stop selection was perfect. Ben’s chili bowl AND the Ethiopian restaurants serve up full portions, so start your tour with an appetite! Personally, I think there should be less history and more local food stops, but less food overall. Like, sample size tastings at 5 places. Everyone knows what opinions are like!!! Ha!
- LD S00U Street good fun and facts!Learning history of the U Street area. The residents supported each other such as opening a bank to provide loans for new businesses to establish themselves and build the community.
- melindadY7442UW00Relaxed walking tour with stories & food along the way!Soneka was friendly and full of interesting information about the U Street area of DC both historical and current. Tried a variety of interesting and delicious foods along the way. Glad we were able to get a glimpse of this rich part of DC. Maybe more expensive than like tours but part of the proceeds are given back to the local area. (PS - water is provided and make sure you start with an empty stomach)!
- Manzilotti00History and FoodJen was very good, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. She explained not only the history of the area but also of the food we were eating.
- CoopClassof7300An Experience you won't forget!!this was an incredible tour! The food was good and I appreciate the knowledge gained about the neighborhood!
- Wilson388200Family friendly, perfect blend of food and historyJenn was great. Her background in history and archeology came thru in her sharing the history of the area, buildings and restaurant stops. Food variety was great! My 13 year old loved it and asked for a similar experience on our next vacation.
- C6117SUaprilh00Exceeded Expectations! The tour with Jim was more than we expected. We couldn't have asked for a better experience since we are getting to know the area. The food selections and history lessons helped us understand the community better. We couldn't have asked for a better guide and he truly exceeded our expectations! Thank you Jim!
- N6597ZBmariar00U townHad a great experience. Wesley was very knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend! I would definitely go back.
- nawanac00Monuments are great, but DC has some great food!!!Ben's Chili Bowl has such a great history and so many famous people have been there. I have never tried Etheopian food and it was amazing and I want to try again. The Cuban pastry was my favorite and so good and the local ice cream shope was a great way to end the tour. Jim was an amazing tour guied and gave us so many other recommendations at the end of our tour!
- Alan R00Great, intitimate tour of Alexandria's old town, with bonus food tour!Jenn was a great guide with terrific knowledge and enthusiasm. Our food stops were terrific and well managed. And old town Alexandria was revealed to us step by step.
- 528renas00Great Ethnic Food TourWonderful trip with lots of history regarding the area. Bonus stop at the African American Civil War Museum. Our guide was knowledgeable, food choices were varied. We definitely recommend.
- Odyssey63938400Awesome tour!!!The tour was fantastic! An awesome blend of history and food, and the guide kept us full of knowledge and tasty delights and kept things moving. We also love the 1-1 benefit provided to the community! Thank you very much!
- E2763HGmichellep00Vibrant neighborhood and taste of local food!Such an a vibrant neighborhood. Our guide was super informative and invested in making sure everyone had an amazing experience. Ben’s Chili dogs were excellent. Cuban pastry was absolutely delicious. Although the Ethiopian food was yummy, restaurant had dirty tables and staff there seemed indifferent to a good customer experience. So much history and an overall great experience!
- roopam40900Great way to learn a bit of history and enjoy diverse foods!Loved our tour guide, our stops, the cuisine, and the knowledge we gained along the way. Overall, I enjoyed this, but I do have one major complaint which I hope can be improved upon after this review. I LOVE Ethiopian food and planned to make reservations during our trip at one of the many Ethiopian restaurants DC has to offer on our trip. But, after learning that this was cuisine we would get to enjoy on this tour, I decided to allow this tour to give us our "fix." Unfortunately, I had one bite and my fiancé had none. This was a massive disappointment. The restaurant choice I'm sure was fantastic and the food looked divine. But, the way it was served was extremely unappealing. The food was served on one plate for 5 strangers to share by eating with their fingers only. Now, I'm Indian so I have no issue eating with my hands. I grew up like this... BUT I ALWAYS HAD MY OWN PLATE!!! When the food was placed in the center of the table, the 5 of us all looked around at each other and the guide. The guide said "dig in!!!" I knew exactly what was going to happen so I went first and took a piece of the injera and used it scoop some lentils and put it in my mouth. Of course, it is nearly impossible not to put your fingers in you mouth or lick your fingers when eating with your hands and that's just what happened. So... out of respect, I did not put my germy fingers back into the food that everyone else was eating. My fiancé was disgusted and didn't eat any. Two of the girls took a couple of bites and one of the girls' jacket sleeves dragged into the food while she was getting a bite. Gag. And then one lucky lady was able to dominate the plate. She went buck wild with bite after bite all while licking her fingers after every single bite! This truly changed the tour for me. Like.... WHY???? Especially in this day and age, why are exchanging germs like this with complete strangers without disclosing in advance that this was going to happen. Had I known, I would NOT have paid $100 for this tour. The one food out of 4 which I was most excited about, I didn't get to enjoy. So, if they can start serving individual portions of the Ethiopian dish, I would say this tour was perfect and worth every penny. But for us, it was a very expensive chili dog, ice cream (which I also did not eat because it was 30 degrees, but no one can help that and it was my choice to avoid being MORE cold), and cuban pastry. Also, I had read that the guests could choose their pastry at the colada shop, but our tour guide did not give us that option. He ordered the most boring and basic one. That was also sad. He said he had only been with company for 2 months, so maybe that was it. Or maybe it was cold and crowded and he didn't want to deal with asking 5 people what they preferred. Either way, I did enjoy the history and the chili dog, but there is room for improvement in my opinion.
- Stephie36500Excellent way to spend 3 hours in DCGreat food and local history. Delicious and not at all boring! Discovered an Ethiopian restaurant I’d love to go back to.

Really enjoyed this tour - the food was great (definitely filling) and we got to know a little about each restaurant and its owners. I was glad to hear that each restaurant was compensated appropriately and that the tour company also supports local residents in need. I've spent a fair amount of time in Georgetown, but never knew much about its history until this tour! I now have a few new go-to spots for delicious food and a great tour to recommend to friends and family.

How wonderful! It's sounds like you're a local - thanks for joining us and we're so thrilled that you learned a bit more about a neighborhood that you were already familiar with and that we introduced you to some new spots. :) Yes, we pride ourselves on being a small business that supports small business; thank you for mentioning that and for appreciating that - we pay our restaurant partners full price for our tastings and we tip their servers 20%; we also provide 3 meals for a local resident with each ticket sale. I must apologize for the delay in responding however! We've been so focused on adjusting and operating safely that I did not realize that we'd had reviews come in. Forgive me! We hope to see you on another neighborhood tour soon!

Best food tour I have been on! Rasheed is awesome! He was knowledgeable, so friendly and had great energy. We went to 4 restaurants, they give you huge portions unlike any other food your I’ve been on… and everything was delicious. They also support minority and female owned businesses. Highly recommend Blue Fern and Rasheed.

Every food stop was delicious and we were pleasantly full (if not too full) by the end of the trip. Our tour guide Sonika was the highlight of the tour. Her amazing energy and bountiful knowledge ensured that we had the absolute best time and that our minds were full as well as our stomachs. Would highly recommend adding this tour to your itinerary.

The tour guide was friendly and enthusiastic- and walk was interesting. But food was less than I expected. Maybe street food or snacks would be a better description. For money charged I thought not a good value. Frankly I was disappointed.

Thank you for your feedback, Pamela. While it is true we may not be as competitively priced as other tours in the area, we are the only food tour that allots a portion of each ticket price towards covering the cost of a person in need’s food for a day thanks to our association with local non-profit, Bread for the City. Also, our company pays full price for our tastings and makes sure to tip the service staff 20% during each visit.
We curate each of our tours so that we can tell the story of the neighborhood through its rich flavors - and in Georgetown, we work with partners who are award winning and change makers in the community.
We’re glad you appreciated your guide’s enthusiasm as she brings that much passion to feeding not only the guests on her tours, but the community at large.

We’ve been on many food tours both in the U.S and abroad and this was just mediocre. The food was very underwhelming, 2 pastries, 2 sandwiches and a coffee. Our tour guide was very nice but needs to polish her stories a little more. Overall didn’t feel it was worth the money.

It was very cool to have such learned travelers join us, Julie! We are a bit different than other food tours you may have been on as we carefully curate each of our award-winning tastings to tell the history and evolution of Georgetown. Also, your support contributes to our mission to give back to the community, which is always a worthwhile cause. We thank you for your review and encourage you to continue to explore!

A little rain won’t stop this phenomenal food tour! Well planned out from start to finish. A fascinating historical walk with a pleasing Georgetown aesthetic. The food variety was amazing & satisfying. Stephan, our tour guide, co-owner & co-creator was a true gem! A great person to spend an afternoon with. Ready for the next!

Oh wow! We're glad you had fun despite what sounds like challenging weather! Thank you for taking the time to review us, as well as giving us 5-stars. I'm a bit biased, but I think my husband, Stefan, is quite a gem as well! Forgive me though...as Stefan and I have been working hard to make sure that we're operating safely, I have not received to our recent reviews (and this year 3 months has felt like 3 years)! I really appreciate your kind words and we'll look forward to hosting you again. :)

Jason was an amazing host and guide. We really thought there was too much talking. This made the tour over 3 hours. We did know the length of the tour from the ad. However, we thought there would be more food. The food was incredible. However according to our calculations, it didn’t seem to come close to the cost of the tour. Again, they do help feed the disadvantaged from part of the proceeds. So that made us feel a bit better. We were full and satisfied at the end of the tour.

Hi, Deb! We appreciate the feedback. At Blue Fern Travel we aim to feed not only the body, but the mind as well. Not only did your support help to feed the needy on a local and global scale, each of our restaurant partners received full asking price for their tastings, and their service staff received a 20% tip as well. We're glad the food left you satiated!

We essentially got a private tour due to another couple canceling which was fine with us! Our guide was knowledgeable and fun; however I was under the impression the food we would having would be more related to Georgetown history. Most of the places we tried were around within the past 20 years but their ties to anything Georgetown history related were really non-existent. If you go in knowing that, you'll have a good time. One thing I would suggest to the company would be to lighten up the meals and have more varity at one place. For example, one place we went to had a plate of veggie noodles with anchovies. Since I don't enjoy seafood, I didn't really particpate at this restaurant. It would have been nice to have smaller samples of a few items from one place. Might be worth checking with the restaurants about offering smaller portion sizes to be able to try a variety of their menu items.

Hi EmFerg~ I'm glad that you enjoyed your "private tour" with us! We do accommodate people with allergies and and dietary restrictions and though we cannot always guarantee that everyone will love each tasting we provide but if guests do not eat a particular food, we can usually coordinate a different option. For example, we most likely could have certainly offered the tasting sans anchovies - I'm sorry you didn't realize! That said, we do work with our restaurant partners to select a variety of tasting to complement our tour experience, so we do expect you to trust us a bit. :)
Cheers,
Mary

David our guide did a great job taking us around Georgetown and giving us the history of the town - which George was it named after?
The tour had a great pace of eating and walking distance between stops
The one negative comment would be that the food was heavy carb based but it still was varied and excellent
Also thank you to Carpe DC and the venues we visited for giving back to the community and beyond

My husband and I are locals to D.C., but we decided to take a tour of Georgetown because we rarely get to that part of the city. Dylan was a great guide - informative and personable. I knew a little history about Georgetown, but I learned a lot from him that we can share with out-of-towners who visit. The food was good and there was plenty of it if you eat everything. We'd been to one location before, which is classic Georgetown and really cozy around the holidays. The others were newer and more "hole-in-the-wall" places, which I greatly appreciate. The restaurants were all D.C.-based places and Dylan told us that the founders really try to support those restauranteurs who have a history here or give back to the community in some way. Thanks for a fun afternoon!

There’s not a ton of stairs and you could fit the stroller in any of the stops. All the sidewalks are brick with varying levels of flatness ranging from flat to bumpy
